Betaine ideal dosing?

I want to take 2.5g daily. What do you think is the best time for taking it? Pre-Workout or on an empty stomach? With PWO shake?

All pre-workout if you can handle it (GI distress).

Ya go pre-workout and 2.5 shouldn't be too rough. It was only when I went above that dose that I got hit with some GI issues, but still nothing crazy.

I had no idea it was a PWO dose. I've been doing a gram 3 times a day. Interesting.

Would also like to know! Started it some hours ago and it hit me hard GI wise no joke.

The worst is explosive poops on squat days...

Is there acute effects? Or is it saturation though?

It really doesn't matter when you take it....pre, post, etc., with or without food. Its well absorbed and the results are due to chronic use (i.e.: it being taken up and stored by the muscles). Excretion of actual betaine is incredibly low. Working on a review of the performance enhancing effects of betaine and a deep speculation into mechanisms. Hoping to have it submitted early in '14.

Awesome. I look forward to that.

You the man. I will say there is some evidence that preworkout dosing may positively affect the hormonal profile while weight training. Mild effects

Is that like the possible IGF mimicking? I thing that is what I seem before.

$25 for the Full text. Looks interesting.

There's a number of studies in pigs showing betaine increases GH production. There is one human study that shows this as well (Apicella et al., 2013 (2012?)). There is 1 animal study that shows betaine is taken up by the hypothalamus and inturn increases GHrP secretion, which is one of the mechanisms behind the increase in GH. I believe there is also another study that shows betaine increases hepatic GH binding and the resultant IGF-1 release. All of the animal studies were with chronic (6+ weeks) and the Apicella study was 2 weeks.

Cooper, can you link me to the acute studies where betaine increases the hormonal response to exercise?
