Hyde’s Strength Odyssey

More or less under yours and Kleens guidance this has been my experience these past couple years as I repeatedly bulk to 200-207, cut to 189ish, rinse and repeat. Each time I come back to 200 my PR is a little higher.

Definitely stronger when heavier, but stronger each time I hit the same peak weight. And I love walking around feeling more like a rhino.

Only downfall for me is at 200 I do notice the snoring, sleep apnea, sore feet, sweatiness etc. It feels good to cut a few lbs and just feel healthier. But it also feels awesome to be at peak strength and size. It's a constant rollercoaster mind F
I sweat walking to the mailbox!!! I sweat all day at work. I’d be menopausal drenched if I took El Carnitine? Btw is that Spanish?

PSMF

Diet (1,840 cals, 224g p , 20g collagen, 45g f, 130g c, 48g fiber):
4-5 shakes over 8-10 hours comprising of:
-8 scoops BSN Syntha6
-2 scoops Mutant Pro
-2 scoops collagen peptides
-100g Greek yogurt

Sauerkraut, cucumber, peppers, carrots, spinach, salt as desired

PEDs:

5mg Var 2x/day
20mcg Clen (never preWO)
2iu GH
30mg Test E
10mg GW
Naringin, Hesperiden

500mg L-Carn inj, 12.5mg Ephedrine & Ninja Mode on training mornings (3/wk)

SNS Thermogize XT, Choline Citrate & XPG Carn gel on non-training mornings (4/wk)

Caffeine, green tea, ephedrine as desired
I’m always interested in your protocols. PSMF is something I had read up on, but never tried it. Everything I’ve read it sounds like it provides the best of both worlds……Getting the nutrition in for fuel and energy while having the tissue and organs repair of fasting, and of course the fat loss. I’ve never known anyone personally that’s tried it, so I’m really interested in your run with it because you always give such great feedback and details.

Does Robert Oberst not subscribe to this school of thought?

I can’t imagine he doesn’t. All of the open pro strongmen I’ve listened to eat the most food, take the most drugs, and train the heaviest before their biggest, hardest shows of the year. You can only stuff your face or stay loaded to the gills on drugs for so long before you need to back off some. Being heavy is hard, and overeating and tolerating steroids are too.

This cycle seems legit. Need to find some GW. Never tried clen, a little hesitant to tbh, but maybe...

Well it’s just a cruise for me, but I am pulling all the levers outside of androgens I know to help facilitate fatloss via different means outside diet & activity.

Only downfall for me is at 200 I do notice the snoring, sleep apnea, sore feet, sweatiness etc. It feels good to cut a few lbs and just feel healthier. But it also feels awesome to be at peak strength and size. It's a constant rollercoaster mind F

Yeah I prefer to have phases, the yin & yang. Using steroids already demands periodization of them to maintain passable health, so you simply can’t be peak power all the time. And just lifting balls to the wall year round with no periodization tends to produce inferior results, or at least higher burnout/injury.

So to me, it makes more sense to have some kind of periodization with food and bodyweight and training, as that just lines up naturally.

For the record, I don’t think you’d have any different fat loss results with the same calories and macros from any other food sources spread across the same meals (chicken or fish with veggies and potato, fruit or whatever). The shakes are just a matter of convenience & to minimize diversity, both of which are proven to support better adherence. It works the way all diets work.

Tell you what boys, the lifestyle aspect of this diet paid out already. We were sent a box of Omaha Steaks Crown Ribeye as a thank you for the contest my wife judged the other weekend. Took those babies over to the in-laws last night & I grilled them up for everyone - absolutely top notch, well above the quality of anything I ever buy (and 3x the price).

Traded out half of my shakes for 10oz ribeye crown, 1.5 baked potatoes with a little sour cream, and a big plate of salad with fat free dressing for our family meal. Best estimation put me a mere 100 calories over my normal calories, with very similar macros.

Got pretty hungry from lower blood sugar about halfway through bench, but I never actually got shaky & performance remained solid! Happy with this.

Another significant weight drop, taken after bathroom (GH keeping things very regular).
Bumped T4 to 100mcg today after no issues with 75 yesterday. Fasted until about 3:30 today - work & life have just been busy! Sticking to the plan, & it appears to working.

Squats felt even easier than Friday, with a harder bar. After 215/245/265x6 felt so smooth & strong, I went ahead and rewarded myself with easy triples up to 300. I was well within my means on all of it, as I need to be, but it was satisfying to handily take 300 beltless. Next time will probably be higher rep worksets to keep the weight down.

I also am reducing the back squat & pull frequency now that weights are picking up (and creeping the Trapbar height down), moving to a separate squat and pull day weekly. I want to stay ahead of my low back recovery so I can keep stringing steady progress together with low risk.

Endurance feeling very high on my current cocktail! Definitely improving time between sets.

Been doing an LMNT packet & Thermotab before all my training too to help stay hydrated on the low carbs - between summer humidity and carnitine, my usual sweating goes into overdrive.

Timed 2 min rests for all my work sets of pressing movements, and I was very happy with my capacity given that pace. Seeing small cosmetic improvements in the mirror but also in the weights.

That’s a good workout, and that’s some solid weight on feet up bench, especially considering you’ve really just recently been hitting heavier weights since your injury.

Yeah, things are spooling back up definitely as my nerve chills out. I think if I made bigger jumps with more rest I can probably get a bit more out of them.

8/1/24 - Day 43
BW 232.4

7th day of this protein shake diet, and I am feeling the fatigue! Fasted until 5:20pm today; work has just been wearing me out mentally as busy as it’s been. Yesterday I had 6 eggs in place of one of my shakes, and the previous 2 days were 8oz 93/7 beef. But total calories were same or lower actually with daily protein very similar. Today is just all shakes.

Down 4lbs from a week ago, and honestly the mirror is more dramatic. Which is good, because it’s not effortless. Deadlift tomorrow!

What position did you hold that sandbag in for the death march?
We used to do these 400m KB farmers carries with I think the 72s. I learned early on I was best off with a hook grip for a miserable 400m, or to plan 100m breaks. If I did 300m or even 350 then set that thing down, the grip was TOAST lol

A front hold pinned against the torso. You’re not allowed to shoulder sandbags in strongman because it’s easier; you have to hold it with your lat & arm strength.

Yeah, when you are doing long carries there is no benefit to taking a break; you won’t be able to meaningfully recover in a small amount of time more energy than you’d expend re-picking something. Often when it goes down, it’s staying down!

8/5/24 - Day 47
BW 229.2

Weight was sticky for a couple days at 232.2, but I knew from how I felt & looked that things were still changing and I needed a movement. Last 3 days I have had some grilled chicken breast and salads in place of 1-2 shakes, which has actually been a tad lower calorie but definitely more satisfying. Energy is low without stimulants, but man I’ve seen some fast changes in the mirror.

Down over 7.5lbs after 11 days of work, and that is even after bumping testosterone from ~120-210 and adding in GH.

Like to hear things are feeling better! Fantastic job on the weight loss too! What protein powder you using for the shakes?

Thanks man. Probably the highest calorie blend I could find, OG BSN Syntha6. It tastes very good, I digest it well, it’s much more filling with the added MCT and fiber.

Most people probably shouldn’t use a protein powder that high carb & calorie, but you do want a blend, not just whey or a single fast speed.

And you don’t have to use protein powder. You could use tuna, white fish, chicken breast, egg whites, etc and also incorporate non-starchy greens in high amounts. That’s kind of the original PSMF protocol. The shakes are just very convenient and remove basically all excuses or obstacles; they are NOT better.

Hard to get out of bed; I was dragging today. It was humid as hell, and the diet couldn’t be denied. I knew by the end of my warmup protocol I wasn’t going to have the leg day I wanted after squats. Mentally committed to just squatting well today - I’d put accessories off until tomorrow night.

Had to hit a little tork before the set of 305 to get up one last time, but all the squats moved awesome today. Had 20 minutes left, found another gear, and just jammed out the Beltsquat to get my legs done. Adductors and quads were so pumped by the last set I had to rest-pause the final reps to not just collapse!

I have another container of All Out I really enjoy. Having used both, I'm not sure I notice a huge difference in Sweat, but both seem to have a great mental impact on my sessions.

Trust me, I know what dragging yourself out of bed feels like due to a big deficit. I have been dragging around these suddenly heavy ass legs for weeks. Every step is not only a decision but an effort at this point.

Yep. Today was 12.5mg ephedrine, 500mg L-carnitine IM, and Bucked Up Woke AF I scored for 40 cents/pack thanks to @MrKleen73 looking out on the deals.

Plus the things I always take preWO like creatine, ubiquinol, taurine, & electrolytes.

Yeah, knowing you are dealing with worse daily definitely helps me whenever I think about it. I am still getting 1,8-1,900 calories and it’s only been for a short duration. But every day now my legs feel like day 3 of an extended fast - they’re not dead, but they’re heavy!

Although for several hours postWO today, they were lead & I was a zombie lol

My second shirt was soaked all the way to the bottom. IL summertime ain’t nothin’ to play with 🥵 Heat isn’t really the issue at all; it’s the 95% humidity. The morning gym temp actually feels nice; it’s about 80 in the morning inside and kind on the joints.

I'm kicking myself for not jumping on his protein deal. After my oreo ghost stuff came in my wife and I liked it so much I went online to order more and the price nearly doubled 😅

Went to a concert at a brewery with the in-laws last night; one of the food trucks on site was from my favorite restaurant from their city.

But I had had my shake before we left, had another one in the car for the trip home, so I wasn’t hungry & stuck to the plan. Dropped another half lb

For some reason I forgot the Kabuki Trapbar is 66lbs, and have been counting it as 55 lol. So that was a pleasant surprise. Added 40lbs, another work set, and another 1/2” mat deficit over last week. 385 felt crazy easy so I really wanted to keep going up, but kept my eyes on the prize.

Now that I’m down to ~230 chin-ups are getting to be gravy.

Yesterday after 2 hours of fasted training like typical right now I had my post shake, then 10oz seared walleye a few hours later. Several hours after had my first free meal in 2.5 weeks - sausage pizza at Chuck E Cheese with my son & wife Wasn’t trying to load up or max the meal out, haven’t even been craving anything or particularly hungry usually. Just been feeling a little worn & wanted to share with my family; it was perfect. My son is moving up to the 4-year-old room early at his preschool!

Had some candy, Chex mix and other processed stuff yesterday evening after as well.

Today, with no training scheduled tomorrow, I get to safely do a full fast. Tomorrow will be a hi carb day to fuel up for Wednesday.

Did 2 full hours of LISS on the bike today, plus Bird Dogs & lots of miniband pullaparts.

Yeah, wife scored me a 2.5lb pack on sale for $9/lb at Sam’s when I had sent her for some Tilapia (just jonesing for some white fish for some reason). Got to have it 4x over 3 days, just rubbed it with some Cajun seasoning and toss it in a pan sprayed with Pam for 5 minutes/side before I’m ready to eat.

It’s pure protein, and at 230 calories for 10 oz even with a salad I’m sitting way under 300 calories for a meal.

I just got invited to go train at EliteFTS next Wednesday so they can film some content with Swede Burns (creator of 5th Set) coaching me for their channel.

Been reading their website & watching their videos for probably 13 years, and now I’m going to be a part of it.

Sometimes, you win some, boys

Congrats man! What an awesome opportunity!
