Hyde’s Strength Odyssey

but hand to God, it really does make an obvious difference over nothing.

ever since your first reviews of it I've been pumped to give it a try. I think I might work it in for July/August. I've stopped noticing much from the oral carnitines I used to really enjoy so this might be fun to bring back in.

I have only ever used the oral, I use LCLT, and pretty much 3g a day now.

Interesting, what is the sodium administration you are using?

Usually just drinking about a gram at a time in a pint of water, nothing fancy.

Insulin shuttles carnitine, and so does sodium. Not as well, but it is necessary and having more of it can still help improve that.

I don’t know that it will help as much with the gel since that’s delayed release, but the gel does still kick in pretty quickly, seems like 45 min or so. Injectable is less than 15 minutes to notice, it’s moving right away. So ideally if you pin, you pin immediately before or after a meal/drink that raises insulin, or at least sodium levels.

I want to stress that it’s really a supplement that is mild in the truest sense - you need to be prepared to spend money for something that is only nominal in effect. But it is all positive, so someone trying to use all the low-hanging fruit does stand to gain something.

It is a good supplement for the dedicated natural athlete, or the health-minded enhanced.

6/28/24 - Day 9
BW 233.2

60 hour fast completed just after 10am today - I was 14lbs lighter this morning than 10 days ago, so it’s time to re-introduce some carbs! Had 2 meals so far, and plan is a very high carb/low fat reload/hi-day. I can really see and feel a remarkable difference in my core/love handle fat after fasting for 180 hours over the last 10 days. Been taking half hour walks every day I fast as well.

Gym this morning was:
-McKenzie pushups
-Cat camel
-Nerve Flossing
-1 mile low incline walk, 18 min
-McGill Curl-ups 2 min
-Deadbugs 2 min
-Plank & Side Planks 75 sec each

ART doc was amazed at the lack of inflammation and how relaxed my back muscles were; I think he had a new level of respect for my commitment when he found out about the extended fasting for recovery. We both agreed for me to double up on the flossing & McKenzie frequency now, as well as begin flossing both legs for any possible residual benefit.

Wow that’s quite the drop, you keep this up you going to be sub 200 😂 awesome to hear how that is knocking the inflation out. Walking and fasting is such a great combo and keeps you distracted from being hungry plus just encourages more fat burning.

Nice work @Hyde! Not surprising, and I bet he was impressed, it is not something even your average meathead would do.

Lightest I’ve seen in many years is 207lbs at the end of a 7-day fast not long after my bicep reattachment surgery.

I told my wife the day I got hurt last week, I think I could possibly make 199 in 8 weeks if I fasted most of the days. She just stared at me like I had 3 heads 🤣

He said he knows it’s often the best thing for someone acutely after an injury, but the whole not eating for days thing is a bit of a tough sell for most lol.

Yeah, you have to have a certain level of drive, and also curiosity to be willing to take on that venture. My longest has been like 110 hours and that was rough!!!! Not sure I will go over 4 days again unless I am in a lot of pain.

I wanted to share this new product with you guys; I didn’t know what it was but have been using it some when fasting to test it out and it’s just awesome (and everything is on sale 20% right now too):

The New SNS Thermagize XT - Fat Loss, Energy, Focus, & Appetite Control

I literally just got to see the formula/product name for the first time today when it was posted, but I already knew I would be buying some since trying it.

Your discussion with me about it yesterday, I will likely be giving it a try soon!

6/30/24 - Day 11
BW 240.6

McKenzie Pushups
Cat Camel
Nerve Flossing
McGill Curlups 2 min
10 min walk
Deadbugs 2 min
Hip stretch
Plank 90 sec
Side Planks 75 sec/side

CG Paused Feet-Up Floorpress
45,95,115,135x15 w/ 3-sec negatives
155,175,195x15

NG Mid-width Pulldowns
66,88,110,143,165,187,209x12
231x8+4 partial -> 165x10 rest pause

Reverse Pecdeck
100x20,15,15

Had a high carb, low fat day Friday trying to really push the food that only took me to 237.8, & more moderate mixed macro day Saturday that finally topped me off. ART guy was explaining to me last week that back-supported and open-chain movements really did present extremely low impact risk, so I allowed myself some fun with them Sunday morning.

I put my heart & soul into that last extended partial+rest pause dropset of Pulldowns. After probably 12 days of no lifting, it was much needed. My lats, tris and delts were obliterated last night.

Enjoyed a free day celebrating with the family afterwards at an Independence Day festival yesterday, which was so awesome for my son. Running around with all the kids at the playground under the fireworks, lots of swimming, bounce house, a foam pit, cookout food. All the good kid stuff in life!

Sounds like a good session. Topping off at 240.6 is pretty nice, shows how much fat actually came off.

Did you go feet up off the floor or feet pulled up by your butt and on the floor?

Feet up & crossed in the air - this keeps the lower back pressed towards the floor better, albeit increases ROM. But harder and lighter is better at the moment. I was working pretty good by the final rep of 195.

Yeah seriously; 6+ lbs of fat in 7 days of fasting over 9 days of keto. 14lb gross drop. It’s very apparent in my core too. Shirts fit differently even.

You will have to give us a conditioning shot around 235, see how you are looking, I bet with all that muscle things tighten up on you really nicely!

Will do; my wife was telling me yesterday how my quads were suddenly looking bigger, despite having not trained them in 2 weeks or so - just from the fat thinning out and revealing more of what’s beneath. I can see them much better now when I do my nerve flossing as I extend my leg.

Is the nerve flossing for the sciatic area? I had to do some of that like lying on the ground with my leg up on a bench doing basically an isometric contraction at the 90 degree point.

Yep, specifically tibial branch and peroneal nerve tensioners before walking or exercise. But they definitely aren’t isometric; they’re controlled sets of leg extensions with my femur, ankle & toes at a couple different combinations of positions.

7/2/24 - Day 13
BW 233.6

McKenzie pushups
Cat camel
Nerve flossing
Incline 3.5 walk 15 min

5/3/1x10 sec each/side on McGill curl ups, side bridges & bird dogs
Glute bridges 2x20
Core Torsion control test - pass
Goblet Squats 3x10
Standing balance drills
Shoulder/hip stretch
Tspine mobilization
KB bottoms up carry 12kg
KB bottoms up half-on-bench assessment - 12,20kg (Could press the 20, but couldn’t lower stably on left / needs work).

Guess if you want to drop 8lbs in 22 hours just fast without electrolytes and drink half a pot of black coffee Felt really good fasting yesterday so I never bothered with electrolytes, but I did have a gram of sodium & 300mg potassium before this work for safety’s sake - it was a nice, sweaty rehab session thanks to a nip of Alpha Y and 500mg shot of carnitine prior. Plus 19mg Tren Ace!

37 hours into the fast, plan right now is at least 3 days, breaking it for 4th of July family time.

65 hours into this fast but feeling good - took another half hour walk last night, then again today at lunch. Will do my core exercises and another walk later after work.

About 24 hours left until our first holiday event; my friend is doing his annual hog roast! If you enjoy your meats smoked & fresh off the bone, it’s epic

Happy 4th. Enjoy that hog

Broke my fast at 88.5 hours, a little more than 3.5 days total. Enjoyed a few family meals yesterday! Good times.

Abs are made on the fast

That is something I really like about it, the way it pulls preferentially from the core. Love handles are a problem area for me this directly addresses, and it’s also good for helping minimize visceral that you can’t see (but is worse for you).

Another epic fast! I don’t know how you do it man!

My air-conditioned desk job makes it a heck of a lot easier than someone like yourself with a real gig!

Yeah the visceral fat, and fat in the liver get burned more so definite benefits there.

I’d eat my hard hat if I fasted that long. “Did a squirrel chew that fiber? No, that line tech is on a fast”🤣🤣🤣

7/7/24 - Day 18

We stayed at my mom’s house Friday evening, and the wife & I left early Saturday for MO so the wife could jump into a contest last minute that was empty for her weight class to get qualified easily for Worlds this December. Pretty ruthless, but she skipped 2 months of working on online qualifier submissions by going in and “winning” a Regionals, so this was awesome. No PEDs or big efforts needed; just a long training day in exchange for 8 weeks of extra time to base build now. Saw lots of old strongman friends. She ran some very hot times on the frame carry & yoke race events, pulled a nice double with 335 on a stiff bar, as well as got a little clean & press and throwing practice in. I did get to put away about 2 dozen 25kg plates, so that was fun for me since I haven’t gotten to lift any weights in a couple weeks lol

Today was my birthday - it was so nice to wake up to no alarm in a comfy hotel bed with my wife, then a big delicious breakfast together after all that, before heading back to get my son & visit with my parents. Cake, pie, chimichangas, ribs - today was lots of love & food

Very grateful for the year behind me, and very excited for the one ahead!

Happy birthday@Hyde! Glad you enjoyed yourself!

Awesome man……Happy Birthday. Hope you have many more prosperous years ahead.💪
That’s great your wife was able to go get some profitable work in, it all adds up.

Sounds like a nice day!

7/9/24 - Day 20
BW 237.8

Pretty happy with my bodyweight, ~9lbs down from 3 weeks ago despite enjoying 6 meals out this weekend on the trip. Multiple people commented on me looking leaner when they saw me this weekend, in a very positive way.

I haven’t had any back issues, and nerve pain in my leg is growing less frequent and also less intense when it’s active - and my core endurance is definitely improving as well from my daily work. Definitely happy to be seeing the fruits of my labor there. I meet with my ART doc tomorrow to check in.

That’s great….sounds like you’re healing right up, and the fasting and therapeutic work is working.

That’s the smart way to qualify.
Happy belated birthday man!

How’s your day to day mobility coming along, feeling progress?

Honestly it’s been perfect for over 2 weeks. There’s no training to tighten anything, so even my elbow has more range of motion. Shoulders, hips, everything I am very mobile from no training.

Besides the periodic nerve pain on the right side glute/leg from the facet joint, there’s nothing off at this point.

great, it sounds like your plan is working out well. I am really curious to hear what your ART guy says regarding your level of recovery.

Just saw him; I messed up in my other post thinking it was a day earlier but Thursdays have been our usual.

He was really amazed and pleased at the lack of inflammation; he thinks the fasting was big because he says my speed of recovery is truly exceptional compared to what he normally sees.

There was no inflammation or resistance in my low back connective tissue, and just a little bit specifically in my right thoracic musculature that he quickly worked out, so I have full rotational ability. Which means the facet joint is indeed calmed down. I can straighten my legs and simply bend over to touch my toes easily.

He was pleased with everything I did the other night, including the Dimmel deads since they’re partial ROM, and really encouraged me to begin getting into my bench arch without real load & to put some very light weight on the squat bar (and to have at all the bodyweight stuff as I see fit) so I stay familiar with compression. He still wants to bring in the full ROM deadlifts later on, not until I’m safely squatting 3-400 again consistently.

Sounds like a great visit and glowing report card to me!

7/12/24 - Day 23
BW 231.0

Weighed 237.0 yesterday, but I am 38 hours deep into a fast. We’re going to stay with my wife’s coach up north tonight before they help judge a strongman show tomorrow, so I haven’t decided if I’ll eat with everyone tonight or just keep it going.

I did the 10 total shots of incrementing 11-20mg Tren Ace over the fasting days in the previous 2 weeks along with replacement test, but this week has only been 120mg test e.

Today I took 30mg/6 caps of the OG Olympus Labs “Ostarine”, which I’ve heard likely isn’t even truly that (probably some dose of LGD). I had half a bottle, 121 caps: if I ramp it 1 cap daily I will finish at 80mg on day 11. Purely an experiment, and I intend to finish it off or throw it out if I abort.
