Building Back Up

I can’t remember if we touched on the sleep apnea subject yet, but it came to my mind again when you said sore throat, which is a symptom I get. Or had.

Until you mentioned Covid. Rest up, hope it’s quick.

Yeah, I've thought that before regarding sleep apnea. It's been 6 to 8 years since my last sleep study. Might be worth getting another.

When I had the first strain of COVIS in March of 2020, it definitely jacked up my bp & pulse, and generally did in many. So it was probably a good compliment to those severe enough to be hospitalized despite the higher than normal dosage.
Thanks. I did read somewhere that those studied, even normotensives, had basically no adverse effects. If I get worse instead of better, I'll increase to 80mg.

I am not a happy camper. Tested positive for covid.
So far, just headache, feel a little cold and achy, very light fever of 99.1 (my usual is 97), and my heart rate elevated to 80-90's. I don't have time for this. Guess I just gotta take the break and slow down the next week or whatever.

Edit: Fever 99.9 at 3pm. Headache isn't as intense.
Ah man... was it your thread I saw that your wife tested positive? It was only a matter of time... rest up, hope it doesn't hit you too bad this time around.

Yeah, she's on day 8 though and doing much better. She's basically stuffy with a dry cough now.

So far, I think this hasn's been as bad as last time...

I actually slept 8 hours!!! I started dozing in and out about 8:30, then woke up a couple times, awake for an hour or so at 3:30 but then slept all the way until 6:30. Love it.

No night sweats or shaking chills like last time either. Headache is about gone. Temp is 98.1. The cold chill has gone down quite a bit. I still have body aches, but other than that, just sinus stuff really. Ears hurt from sinus pressure 😆 never had that before.

Sounds good man! especially with the fever already broke (or damn near since you said you normally run around 97?)

Sounds like you found a solution to your sleep issues. Covid infection, if you can just keep that up you will sleep well all the time! ;) Hope you feel better quickly bud!

FWIW I have had ear pain from sinus stuffiness several times, no worries there. They’re just backed up and it’s going to suck a bit.

A nettypot type sinus flush can potentially help relieve some tension.

Interesting way to look at it 😆

Yessir! And appetite is back. Ate a great breakfast with ease. I'll be back in business in a couple days at this rate.

What's the thought on movement with covid? I'm not talking about exercise, but getting up to pace around for like 5 minutes every so often? As tolerated? Just take a couple days to rest before doing this? I know yesterday is exactly what I needed and so far been resting for the most part. Should i go for 1000 steps today? Or just relax and not worry about it?

I admit since of this is neuroticism, but I'm also going stir crazy already 😆 I didn't realize I'm actually an extrovert until last covid!

I think if you are feeling up to a walk and are stir crazy then you should go for a walk. Just don't kiss any of the neighborhood babies. Also for the love of God please do not sniff their hair...

Right on. Don't worry, I have a personal bubble that prevents any of that.

I'd do this. If you feel ok and especially if you feel restless I'd get some walking in. Pretty sure I walked daily when I had it and kept training in my garage, but I barely had any symptoms so go based on how you feel.
I definitely don't feel good enough for a workout or anything intense. Body aches are still present, but walking around kind of feels good. I'm pretty bored 😆 my wife slept for 3 days...so jelly.

Don't be! The kind of sick that puts you in bed for days is horrible, and honestly you still feel unrested when it is all said and done.

getting to know you from your log I do tend to lean towards some neuroticism, but I think I say that from an angle of experience, respect, and care, because I feel like much of what ails you, I experienced years ago so it feels familiar.

Not a Doctor <-- but I say get your ass moving as much as you can within your limits or slightly beyond.

I'm a firm believer lying in bed will kill you faster than exercising. The mind is the most powerful tool our body has, it can cripple us, and it can make us champions.

All I did was 2 mile jogs with covid. and if I was totally beat to ****, then that 2 mile jog might become 1/4 mile jog/walk intervals. but I was outside, breathing and exercising. even though I am one of those who felt covid was no big deal, I 100% admit that I was not 100% in the gym again for about 6 weeks. took a while to rebuild stamina and wind capacity. however my friends who are gym rats that laid in bed for 10 days with netflix and takeout were not fully back to the gym for MONTHS. like 4+

If I didn’t have a fever that day, I took a walk when I had COVID. A calm walk within your means is going to relax your mind and circulate blood.

I think you said your fevers came and went for how long? What was your whole recovery like again?

I'm now remembering last time, I got over the really bad stuff in the first couple days, then the following 5 was like how I'm feeling now...chilled, but hot ears, no fever, congested with small cough and taking ivermectin on day 9 or 10 cleared that up super quick. Or, it would've cleared up anyway but quite sure I recall within 2 hours of taking it my sinuses drained and got super hot and sweaty which went away after a couple hours. 24 to 48 hours from taking ivermectin all symptoms were gone, but that would've also been day 11 or 12.

I walked every day the second round of COVID .7-1 mike. I didn’t want to, but the dogs didn’t want a rest day. I think it was good for me to move.

I had fevers many days for a good 2 weeks. It was like a 3 week sickness. Not a good time, but pretty much once I was prescribed ivermectin it wrapped it up for me.

Thanks guys.

Update: Apparently i had this same variant or something close last time, because the night sweats and waking every hour of 2 has begun again. Headache is back. Temp this morning was 96.7 though so that's good (I think?). Still have body aches and congestion. The one thing that's different between this and last time is there literally nothing in my lungs so the tiny cough I get a couple times per day is just a tickle, no big deal. Can't stand this headache though. Oh, and I'm sneezing this time around. If it wasn't for the night sweats, I'd think this was just the flu.

Edit: forgot to mention my throat (in sinus area actually) is on fire. I don't recall that from last time either.

Since when did the flu become a just? LMAO, The Flu takes me out and makes me absolutely miserable. I forgot how bad it was until I got it again last year, and wanted to just die in my bed. LOL

Is there any reason not to take ibuprofen and/or dayquil? Those first few days when I "thought" I was getting sick that was my regiment. I don't love the idea of abusing ibuprofen but if it's bad enough I'll pound it.

ha, true true. I've only been diagnosed with the "Flu" once in my life and my wife at the time and I spent Christmas in the ER basically begging for pain meds. that was about 12-13 years ago lol

Lol well, my flu was relatively mild back in 2020, right before covid hit the US. My daughter got it, tested positive for flu A, then a couple days later I felt it. I was taking so much stuff back then, I wonder if that's why I tolerated it so well.

I thought ibuprofen was bad for covid? Did that not turn out to be the case? I'm just paranoid about side effects from everything. Is that better then tylenol?

Did the ER actually give you pain meds?

honestly no idea... that's why I am more than happy to share my experiences but I'm always cautious and say "not a doctor" lol. I just 100% treated covid like any other bad cold. the only difference was the loss of taste for 12hrs and smell for a few days... those were new and weird.

They also said elderberry could create a cytokine storm which at the time I researched like crazy but i never stopped taking mine and my wife and I take high quality elderberry every day now which I believe is why we are not sick but every single person in her office got sick and half of the people in my office did.

personal opinion <-- I don't think COVID is special. it's sickness and I think it should be treated as such with your normal recovery protocol. again... personal opinion.... but that served me well...

I hear ya. I may get desperate enough for some tylenol, but at this moment, what I'm dealing with is tolerable. Mega C doses absolutely lessen symptom severity. On the "normal recovery protocol", I don't use tylenol or ibuprofen for anything. In the past 10-20 years, I've taken tylenol throughout one night last time I had covid in hopes it would stop the chills and night sweats. I haven't taken ibuprofen since I was in the Army lol.

I think both tylenol and ibuprofen have their place and although they are not good for you when used chronically the risks are very minimal when used properly and for short periods of time. Especially ibuprofen because it can be the difference between a week out from an injury or something that lingers around incessantly due to uncontrolled inflammation issues.

All of the stuff I noticed in studies that seems to improve hospital outcomes, including Ivermectin & Telmisartan, seemed to have some level of anti-inflammatory impact.

So unless you find ibuprofen specifically contraindicated somewhere you trust, I personally would assume it could be positive for someone with strong organ function.

That being said, I don’t take that or any painkillers preemptively, or just for body aches. I don’t want to artificially feel better and then overdo my activity and stay sick longer. So you would want to be mindful of bandaids.

Agreed 100% and actually a current thing I was debating. [Pause for momentary internal conflict] But, I'm probably being neurotic about what I was about to say so I decided to let it go and relax. Lol

Day 4.

Muscle aches are greatly improved. Energy is a little better. No fever. Heart rate actually down to high 60's to 70 when resting at times. Night sweats were horrible last night though. Woke up every hour. Added in a couple doses of 300mcg melatonin to assist in sleep which helped sleep depth. Constant headache is annoying but this happened before with vitamin C mega dose, so I'll be backing down to 3g per day.

now that you mention the night sweats, I recall in June of 2021 I believe, I had a night that I sweat through the sheets so bad, and so out of the blue it was like I just pissed myself all night long. It was short and fleeting and I wrote it off as "carb flu" from cutting hard core for about 2 months (which worked). Who knows!

ironically regarding ibuprofen, I never took much until my brother got home from the army (medic) and told me what their protocol was, which was like double what I thought I was supposed to take. so now days I take what I consider a half serving if I take any at all. probably less than twice a year if that.

It's funny because I won't take a dose less than 800mg anymore. I only take them for acute inflammation and only for a week at the most but almost never get to a week. Normally a few days is plenty to knock the original inflammation down enough to resume activity at a decent level.

I think knowing that I can take 800mg, I'll sorta get a grasp of how I feel and if I have to nuke it, i'll go full out but if I think I can get by with 1/2 I attempt that with some electrolytes and see how it goes. most I've taken in the past few years was probably a few days there with covid in '21 but those were half doses in the morning with gatorade and coffee.

Yeah, the doses for headaches and stuff is lower than when trying to fix an acute inflammation injury / issue. So that is appropriate.

Day 5:

Most symptoms are gone, and my normal daily symptoms have returned like insomnia, restlessness, etc. But no night sweats last night!
Body aches gone (I think just achy from laying around), headache gone, very mild congestion, barely a cough, still nothing in lungs, maybe some fatigue, otherwise only miserable due to 4 hours sleep.

Notes for self:
Still figuring out the balance between optimal methylation and niacin. Too much niacin reduces methylation too far making the restless inside worse. When my only intake of methyl donors is 4 eggs, hydroxocobalamin and folinic acid, I only tolerate 25mg niacin. Anymore, like yesterday, creates issues. But I'm not exactly sure niacin only reduces methyls...also wondering if it has an effect on choline. Things to continue to experiment with when I'm better. Lemon balm works when I've taken too much niacin.

I wonder what would happen if you dropped all supplements and just took up a paleo diet for a few weeks to avoid any and all processed stuff.

how do you take lemon balm?

I was literally just thinking about stopping everything and seeing what happens. Not until I'm a little more recovered from covid though. I've thought before that something I'm taking actually makes me more sensitive to everything else.

I use half a pill of Nootropics Depot 10:1 extract, every few hours on a night like that.

wouldn't evening nootropics effect sleep negatively? I don't know a LOT about nootropics, but my past ritual has been morning doses and my brain performed incredibly at work when I did that.

Definitely, but lemon balm is a downer, not exactly a nootropic.

This, I think I'd rather have covid again then have the flu. The flu makes me feel like I got jumped by 8 guys with baseball bats

I've had a few things that use lemon balm. They always make me relaxed. I also didn't know what lemon balm was till a few years ago. I probably thought it was chap stick or something lol

Guys, I don't like having anything lol. But when I had the flu, I was taking so many things and megadosing Vit C that it controlled my flu symptoms very well. It was uncomfortable, but I was sleeping well at night and no night sweats. Those are game changers when ill.

Day 6.

Weight: 212

I've lost 9 pounds in 6 days and I've been eating pretty well. I haven't been eating as much as a normal day since I'm not doing much, but that's a lot of weight for the amount I am eating. Guess i better up the kcal so I have some muscle when I'm actually back at it. I lost 16 pounds with covid last time, but that was because I was forcing down food.

Also slept pretty well finally last night. 8 hours total, periodically woke up, maybe 4 or 5 times.

I'm thinking of taking another test today to see if I've kicked it completely. No real covid symptoms left, just weird post-covid type stuff.

You can test positive for weeks after you’ve had it on antigen tests. It’s not related to contagious symptoms - if you feel good enough and some time has passed (idk what the flavor of the month recommendation is, probably like a week or so) then you’re good to go.

You can have a lingering cough or sides for a long time, but that doesn’t mean you’re still contagious.

From what I've been reading, if you test negative 5 days after, your not contagious, but a positive test like you said doesn't actually mean you are contagious. The flavor of the month is 2 negative tests on day 6 and 7 mean one can end isolation and masking. Because of the family coming in and visiting, I'll be doing that. Took 1 today which was negative and staying mostly isolated today until I take another tomorrow morning to confirm and end isolation and masking.

For the record, for anyone following, I highly suggest never buying and trusting Quickvue tests. They've been wrong every time compared to BinaxNOW and the other we have.

Really, I guess this is new, Fucki said if no fever you are clear to go back to work a couple months ago...

Well, I wasn't really looking for their "guidance" because I don't believe the guidance is based on science. I was looking for actual data on being contagious and for most people, we're contagious for 8 days, but the way to test for early release to ensure not being contagious is 2 negative tests. The whole "isolate for 5, mask for 5" is because the Delta CEO asked for it, there's no science there.

Clarification: after 5 days, viral shedding is reduced, but still present.
