I've been out of the game for a week dealing with a bad cold. I feel like I have to have 2-3 sessions with lower weight and reps just to get my body to remember what it used to do. Appetite only came back recently too. What are your workouts like after being shelved for a bit?

It is so hard for me to take time off when needed.Even when sick I have the overwhelming desire to go do something in the gym,but in the times I have made myself take the rest needed.i usually come back better than I left off.Honestly I have learned from it and take forced breaks for about a week or two every few months and always come back stronger.i know being sick is different,but take the rest time you need,your body will thank you.i tend to work through sickness sometimes and I look back and the work wasn't very productive.once you feel better and diet is back in check you will be back 100% quick if not better because of extra time for muscles to recover!
 
I'm thinking of just simplifying everything. Having one day be deadlifts / variations of and bench press / pushups. Another day be squats / lunges and pullups / pulldowns. Cardio in between and maybe one day to just work my shoulders and arms. 40-50 minutes, 2-4 exercises with little rest in between. High/low in essence.

Just whatever you feel is best for you.you know your body and you only,a lot of times when sick I will do abs and cardio in the hopes I'll sweat it out as we say,never works.but I do tend to lessen my lift days when sick by a full set and less intensity.just try not to over push your body to extreme fatigue,it's already working overtime trying to fight whatever you have bro.rest is so important when sick,I know it's so hard to do,and I don't always do it myself ashamed to say.but just giving my opinion on things.
 
At least the NHL coming back has lifted my spirits. I'm a Sabres season ticket holder.
