Is it true that once you come back from basic combat training after those 9 weeks, you come back as a fat ass(over 20%bodyfat).

:frustrate...yes you come back as an ever bigger fat-body, even after 9 hard weeks of Basic training you transition to an even bigger undisciplined sh!t bag, epecially everyone that goes and serves in the line or a ground combat element.

Marine Corps Boot is an even more disgrace where the :drillsergeant:Drill instructors have absolutely no control of the recruits, there's candy machines in the squadbays, X-Boxes on the foot lockers and the scuttlebuts ( water fountains ) have Hi-c fruit punch or ecto-cooler oh....and we have to hydrate every hour with Budweiser instead of actual water.

It is not true...BUT people do usually come back a little fatter do to the simple fact most people dont eat right.

Well in the Marines and Army they will feed the hell out of you(well what they dont make you throw up ;) ) and work the hell out of you.

You come back bigger because of muscles, but usually with a lil bit of a belly unless you have a good metabolism. Not bad fat, but natural fat your body gets used to storing for the stress conditions you go through.

I want to see cortisol levels measured from someone in hell week of basic training ^.^

and what if your body fat is 3-5% like the bodybuilders when you go to basic, because at that percentage, your pretty much can't store anything.

Very untrue, a majority of us when I went to boot lost a ton of weight, I lost 65 pounds and I wasn't a diet recruit but I did get phneumonia and my chest got bigger more than anything else, the fact is no matter what your body type is you lose weight and bf, there where a couple of guys that gained good weight and no one had any extra fat on them and no one had bellies that could relate to having high cortisol levels. Anyone could point to the valid fact that since it's stressful that cortisol levels are high but I didn't see that to be the case nor did I store any fat and the leanest I ever was was well right when I graduated boot. My only conclusion is that with the frequency and amount of volume from PT, getting smoked on a daily basis by the D.I's and countless push-ups with adequate calories regardless has to be the reason why I gained size in my chest and lost a ton of BF and weight....not sure about Army basic.

I didn't gain anything. I actually got a little weaker by the end (but still had 2nd highest PT score) in my pushup. Situp/run increased a lot. But I was at Arty OSUT, where boot and advanced are together, so it was 20 weeks of boot, and I was heavy Arty so doing my job is getting smoked lol. 155mm HE round weighs 93lbs. Now I am a cush intel guy :P not really though, I'm the "combat" intle guy $$

Buddy Corey of mine did Modeling for Abercrombie and Fitch in his senior year of high school, came back from basic and he lost his abs and everything. No homo but he had the best abs I have ever seen and well they are gone now.

I went into Marine Corps bootcamp 180 lbs, came out 175. Granted i got stuck in MRP for 9.5 weeks so i put on weight in there but they fed us so many carbohydrates it was impossible for me to really lose a good amount of weight.

I lost more in MCT eating MRE's and humping the flak n kevlar n rifles n pack all over then i did in boot.

i always wonder how good the diet is in the military/basic training. i keep hearing that its pretty BS. with all the money that goes into the military I hope they get ok food

They just feed you lots of carbs which is necessary for the training you go through. I dont respond well to that many carbs so i didnt lose much. Also the food i thought, was pretty good.

I was in basic/arty school 6 years ago and most food was a compound dish like chilimac or spaghetti. You do get a choice of what you want to eat though, just the choices are not great. Food here in Iraq where I am is about 10 times worse...but then again FT sill had been awarded best chow hall in the army like 10 years running (when I was there last)

Three or four of my fat, out of shape, cigarette smoking, heavy drinking friends came back from boot camp lean as $hit.

Lol, its next to impossible to gain weight in basic training. They simply don't give you enough time to eat. Only 3 meals a day and no snacks what so ever.

If you even get your meal, lol...

You'd have to be sneaking in boxes of choco bars fat camp style to come back fatter. Just that shock to the metabolism from the new, excessive physical activity is like a supercharger to the metabolism.

Or, your genetics are just that horrendous, to which I suggest not procreating.

Well, in the Marines you can't be over 18%. If you are they'll put you on half rations and work the sh*t out of ya. If you are are underweight they'll put you on double rations and put some meat on your bones.

In the end if you are big and really muscular you'll likely loose some and lean out, but it'll be nothing you won't be able to gain back. If you are a skinny bastard you may finally get some meat on your bones as I said. The thought of coming out of boot camp in any of the services fat is just ridiculous.

Navy. not to cause stuff, but I have worked with navy kids who were straight out of boot, still doing their advanced stuff, and they have 0 organized pt or accountability.

Air Force too. Same spot there were big huge fat air force ppl straight out of boot.

But those people actually go in fat, so its not like they got fat from boot

You'll only be fat if you want to be fat.

However, if you were to look at the instructions on the Navy's body fat standards vs Marines... the USMC is actually a bit more lenient.

Invalid Link Removed you can check what your BF% is according to the army.

I think i'm at around 9% on that scale.

that method is bulls**t, is inaccurate, the only way it will work is if we have the same body type, remember we are not born with a small waist, we are born either mesos(medium waist), endos(wide waist), ectos(small waist) or a mix of two. And F.Y.I., we have to get in bodybuilding show condition in order for it to work since there is fluctuation in waist and weight as the day passes.

I've never seen anyone fail the army standards who wasn't fat...

Short people have it rough on the height/weight standards but it still seems to work. They just have to get "taped".

I've never been taped before, but I have seen a ton of fatties with fat necks pass their tape so I just figured that someone who was in shape and needed to be taped would fail because that's how the Army regs work most of the time lol. Example: US Army base chow hall has like 15 ugandan guards at the door. I've never seen the chow hall assaulted...I'm sure one guard would be fine...+ people dont go there to cause problems..they go to eat. lol.

Jambooooooo!!

I'm not sure i'm supposed to say this but they don't guard the chow halls in afghan. I remember all the friendly ugandans though, i got put on the 24 hour detail to work with them a couple times.

Everyone pretty much knows we are not built up in Afghan like we were in Iraq. They are a freindly and happy bunch over all though. It's funny though when it would be like in the 60's they would already be bundled up in big azz jackets..lol In the winter you could never see their face because they would be so wrapped up.

I really can't tell much difference in the people in Afghan and the people of Iraq. They pretty much act the same, and depends on what town/part of town you're in.

They sure are a more daring in afghanistan when they attack convoys though.

As a somewhat general rule. If you go in skinny youll gain some weight, if your bigger youll lose. I went in at 203 and was 172 at the end of 9 weeks. The problem was I didnt eat enough and lost a bunch of muscle too. They do have the nutrition if you know what your doing. Ill assume since your on here you know how you need to eat. I was 17 when I went in and didnt know jack about how I should eat. I saw the weight dropping off, so in my mind at the time, if I eat a little less I'll lose weight faster! How I wish I knew then what I know now. I know for us we were pretty much unlimited on how much we could eat. and an average MRE is around 5,000 cal

This :D

MRE is meant to be one per day also. Lots of people get fat from eating 3 MREs a day without doing enough work. I remember being in classes before and no chow hall so they feed you 3 MREs, total bull lol. Just saved mine and sold them to surplus store :D

5000 cals are u f'n kidding me??? is there packets of bacon grease in it???

i ate on of those things and while it was delicious (some kind of chicken) it wasnt all that huge. the brownie was good i remember. but to get 5000 cals out of that ud need to eat everything including the box and the toilet paper.

This is not true. MRE's average about 1200 cals. The winter MRE's average a bit more because of the extra demand of cals demanded on the body in cold weather enviroments. They are not meant to only eat one a day either. You are in fact suppose to eat several and as an grunt will know when in the field chow is continuous. In field environments or combat which these are designed for the demand for cals are much greater. Now, if all you do is go out to the field every now and then and sit around like a POG you may not want to eat everything. In 2003 during the push to Baghdad for example many of us in my platoon were eating 4 full MRE's a day and still loosing weight.

I worded it wrong :speechless: Meant they are meant so that you can "Survive" on one per day lol. Yeah in the field you can def eat a ton and be good, the new damn vest we have is something like 60lbs with all 4 plates in it >< Add a ruck and 120 degree weather and you will be burning calories blinking your eyes!
