rant on supplement cost!!!

I have noticed that since Ive started taking supplements the prices seem to go up and up. I know all about inflation and its ok to make a profit.
I am not an obama socialist so I dont expect anything for free. But I have been in the fitness biz and know about the cost to produce products and middlemen cost and all that.
why is it that certain companies set minimum prices.....? this is the same bull**** that eas did back in the day ( thank you bill phillips!) plus spending millions in ads in the magazines a month...hmmm I wonder why supps cost so much..
the only company ive seen on here really discounting is lg sciences. i mean he's just about giving you the shirt off his back at times. especially w/ the nattadrol deal. i would have tooken him up on it but i was broke and he took down the page before i got paid. I must also say I have never taken a single lg sciences product so he hasn't paid me in any way to say this.
also all these people that as soon as a product is out giving products artificially high ratings...just cause you got a free bottle of product. wow...the company is giving you a product it cost him 12$ to make. grow some integrity and give it an honest review don't whore yourself out for a free bottle.
its sad theres not very much integrity in the supplement business...not much has changed in the last 17 years. oh well thats my rant.. thanks for reading!!

I hear you bro, but keep in account that some companies are new and can not afford to throw deals like LG, remember LG has been around for years. Due to inflation, the cost of raws/manufacturing/labeling all go up as well. Companies need to make their profit and so on; but trust me bro, it gets ridiculous with how much these supps can cost, since they are supps and not food. I tell people stick with simple and if treats you good.
 
rising-utilities, insurance, groceries, taxes, gasoline and everything else going up in price and i still get a locked in 3.7% yearly wage increase i have had to cut back on the money i spend each month on supplements. i cannot for the life of me see how some of these guys can afford to run 'super stacks', geez doesn't anyone else have to pay bills or go to the grocery store?:dunno:
 
those of married w/ kids have to budget ...but costs of doing business aside paying huge ass amounts of money for print ads can significantly increase the costs. in 99 a full page ad cost 5000 per page. that was 99. if i was loaded i guess i wouldn't complain but im not so i gripe. right is right and wrong is wrong.

as long as there are enough people willing to pay the price supps will keep going up. i really expected with the economy he way it is and has been that people would stop buying as many supps and the price would drop. i guess that supps are like alcohol was during the great depression-immune to the economy.

Some formulas are expensive to make. Others, not so much. Your print ad price is off by at least 2/3.

Shipping costs, fuel costs, insurance costs, raw materials cost...everything increases quarterly to yearly, as well as overall volume going DOWN because of the economy.

Some companies, though, choose to charge VERY high prices and rely on marketing hype because they are looking to score it rich quickly rather than build something that will last for generations.

it doesn't look to me like volume has gone down nearly as much as one would expect during a bad economy like this. is volume really down that much?:dunno:
 
I think alot of the more "real" companies are very fair. RPN and USPlabs, as well as AI and AppNut are pretty fair priced for what they offer.
RPN's renegade is 6-8 bucks...for what it does I'd buy a lifetime supply

USPlabs don't make a product that isn't worth it. Not to mention the innercircle releases are incredible.

Plus nutraplanet is very generous with their sales.

things are gonna go up because of the economy, but not every company is just out for you dollar.

We're in liquidation mode, so prices are WAY down...but speaking to my colleagues yes, volume is way down.

Some companies are ripping you off, some arent.

There is a lot more to the cost of a supplement than strictly the raws. You have raws, materials (bottles, labels, caps), then you have to pay the sales person, the formulator (if you have one), transportation, storage, et al. Then once you have the set price for what you need to make from the product to be profitable, the retailer then sets what it is sold for.

It's per peeve of mine. People say "tooken" and I just about rage.

But back on topic, I've cut my supplements to bare necessities and one's proven effective. I have also started buying Nutraplanet brand more often.

lets not forget that the US dollar isnt worth as much as it was 3-4 years ago. you have to consider alot of factors.

i just eat out less, makes up for my new supplement hobby, no problem. just re budget everything and im set.

i seems your company goes all out to keep cost to consumer down-much props to rpn. but damn, d when i look at logs being run i can't believe how these guys can afford it. 3-4 years ago my son was still at home and i still had much more expendable income than now. i make a decent living but geez, it's like you need to take a loan out to go to the freaking grocery store. .90c for a stupid apple???
 
i understand about costs. the retailer or etailer is just as culpable in my opinion as the manufacterer. im gonna sell more cartons of eggs at 79cents per than 1.59 per...
and don't say they arent the same thing. look at the aldi grocery store model...they are a worldwide conglomerate and still are cheaper than wal mart ....
they make money and they are still cheaper. they have limited waste. id rather have a customer for the rest of their life than to always have them looking at the other side of the fence to see if the grass is greener

Keep in mind bro from a former Aldi's shopper, their food is CHEAP quality, Walmart is better than their groceries LOL, I will stick with my whole foods...
 
I totally agree, but seriously..

Our dollar in Australia is weaker than yours, so we pay 20% already on top of your pricing.. add another 20% for shipping..

So we're paying 40% more than your sale or standard online prices...

Think how we feel down here, we don't even get free shipping, half your discounts, **** is constantly out of stock, so we can only order whats around at the time and customs r a total bitch.

Raws are cheap... from the lists i see.. i see alot of over-priced products.
 
Well if things are to expensive look around shop around. I can get creatine for 10 bucks and protein for 20. Look for expired products. Sometimes you have to shop at other places, even though i like to just shop at nutraplanet but sometimes i have to buy somewhere else. Even though nutra i buy from 80 percent of the time. You just need the basics. Yeah pre workout supplements can be expensive sometimes or all the time depending on which product your taking. If its that much of a problem then just stick with coffee and mix it with protein shakes. Nutrplanet has some great bulk products that you could mix your own "pre shake". Just an idea. I started doing this and i save alot more money.
 
i buy from nutraplanet when i can, but they are not always the cheapest. i buy it because they are local , i can pick up same day, they take care of me. as far as aldi, i have to disagree. i drive a truck i pick up food stuffs. the very same major manufacturers private label the store brands in 90% of the time. I have seen this with my own two eyes. Initially you see this and your jaw drops but nothing truly surprises me anymore. Ive got alot of knowledge of how the economy works from what i do.
i know costs have changed in the last generation, but seems as the industry has grown so has the screw the consumer mentality.

costs are rising and it is a business so they want to make money, you cant expect the supplement industry to be any different than any other industry, i mean they do make ridiculous adds about the size and strength you can gain, what makes you think they'll be our friends and drop prices?....look at tiffany's jewerly or like burger king, their profit margin is very great especially for what they offer

on the other hand i do think that companies should stick to basic bottles and basic labels, i mean the epistane bottle looks pretty cool and all but i just got a bottle of recoverpro, plain white 2lb protein type bottle with a label that looks like i can make it myself, this can help lower costs for the companies that they can send on to the consumer...don't hold your breath though.....just be a sale shopper, grab stuff thats on sale even if it might not be your supplement of choice

Unfortunately with the majority of the demographic, this strategy means massive failure.

Shelf space is premium, and attention spans are short. Flashy sells, period.
 
shop swanson and buy only BOGO items and go to corporate not franchise GNCs and buy only close date, recent purchases of mine include anabolic switch for 10 bucks, NitroCore for 10, Blackpowder for 16 and EAS Betagen for 17, Anabolic OD 15!

I know it's too bad, most ppl that buy based on flash don't spend the amount of money on supplements than an unbiased consumer, even my girlfriend saw the colors of "The One" pills and thought they looked good to take
 
Well anabolic OD is being sold for buy one get one free at one website muscle assylum's whey protein is also buy one get two free. I bought some even if i have never tried them. Just a great deal.

But anyway like i was saying just keep looking for deals you will find it. If you have afavorite company that you like buying from. You have to remember that alot of companies make the same product. Might as well go for the cheapest. What i do is look all over the internet to find good deals. Some times you dont find them but if you look every month you will save some good money. I have a huge collection of supp's but i will sure be fine for a while.
 
i shop around as well. nutraplanet is a 45 minute drive from me so its hard to pass that up. plus who wouldn't like looking around a warehouse full of supplements?
 
you get to look around the nutra warehouse? i have a supp warehouse about 20 minutes from my house, but they don't let you in the warehouse, gotta look on the site, get numbers and go up there to the desk and know what you want, they then go in the warehouse and get your order

damn, my wife complains about how long i look around in vitamin shoppe. i could spend a weekend in that warehouse, lol. you are lucky-wow!

Just look at it like this, when I was 21, I was spending 100 bucks a month on clubs, 100 bucks a month on alcohol (buying friends beer and crap), 100 bucks a month on shoes, probably 200 a month extra in gas because I was always "riding" the boys around that did't have cars from place to place. Hmm, 50 bucks a month on the newest video game....

15 years later, I do not do ANY of those things and that is quite a bit of money that I do not spend now...what 500+ bucks? Even now with a house, wife, etc, etc, I don't spend the extra and waste it. Relatively, I do not spend nearly as much and I probably have about 300 for supps even though I do not buy more than 50 bucks tops...

In today, a lot of these younger people are really into this fitness, bodybuilding, get buff deal, and they are tossing the video games and designer sneaks for supplements.

A 20 year old can go work for Costco for 1 year, get a small supervisor job and make 19.50-21.00 an hour and live at home. That was NO WHERE to be found when I was 19, not without some type of degree at least. And, I sure as hell couldn't live at home past 21.

I kind of disagree here...not much but just a bit...

I had a friend talk about some Oj she got from aldi, or something that was supposed to be oj...that and Tropicana did not taste ANYTHING close to the same. One company can make two products, upper scale and cheap replica and ship to both retailers, upper scale and cheap market and they will be totally different. I do agree that there really isn't much difference, if any on most products but specific products do tend to have a much different taste. That aldi dairy product is totally different imo...maybe i am used to certain but just saying

It's sort of like when people buy certain TVs and do not know that the same cmpany which manufactures that 3,000 tv also makes that 999 tv but still it isn't the same other than the outside. People say "oh it's the same from the same manuf" I've torn those bad boys apart and fixed them when I was in the electronics field, they are NOT the same...cheaper parts, cheaper tv, more upscale parts, pricier tv.
 
I will agree that supplement prices are getting high. Just think of how us retailers are looking right now. I got into the business, or starting the plans over a year ago when prices were cheap.

Now that things have come full circle, i really will not be making what I THOUGHT i would when I first decided to jump into this pool game.

You can only cut so many cost before you are just breaking even. Once you reach that point, it only takes on mishap before your web address reads "404"

i bought an xm radio, have her wait in the car. she loves sports talk, so it does the trick. as long as i dont over do it at VS im fine. thank you xm.
 
Speaking of VitaminShoppe, I find it a bit funny how most of their pricing is significantly below the cost of the same stuff from these manufactures' websites. And I mean, like a good ~$20 difference easily...and no additional cost of shipping... It's like...are there people that actually are paying those full prices directly from these companies? When...basically a middle man...apparently is cheaper...

This is usually why I always hope that more companies should start selling at stores like VitaminShoppe... :P Apparently the gas I waste driving there and the money I will be spending is less than the full price and the shipping price combined...

that is why there are always customers in vitamin shoppe when i go there-whereas gnc is always empty. gnc is good for one thing-close to expiration 75% off. because gnc does no business i find a lot of stuff at 75% off, lol.

Since it's a hell of a lot cheaper for me to sell product direct, if I undercut my retailers from my own site, I would never get a single order.

Manufacturer price is high for a reason...and yes, some people STILL order direct.
 
The prices are crazy I must admit. However, I keep spending and spending willingly. It's a DISEASE!! :dunno:

These companies make money selling to distribution houses who may order 100,000+ and people like myself who would order 2-3000 dollars bulk loads for resell.
Why would they sell cheaper on their own site when they make more money shipping out bulk loads to buyers like us?
 
The supplementation business is no different than any other business.
As long as "gullible" individuals see big pretty 4 page color adds w/the promise of "Cutler status",they will continue to thrive.
I've learned over the years MOST supplements are garbage.Imo,the "fabulous 5".....
BCAAS,fish oil,whey,creatine and the BIGGIE....WHOLE FOODS!!!

Good points, I agree.. unless it's close to illegal... it wont work lol..

I do keep an eye out on certain companies tho, aka RPN... always great ideas.
 
i stick to ECA(about $10 total),the bulk products by Nutraplanet(creatine 1kilo for $17,bulk geranium $20 100capsules),protein powder 5 lbs for $30.very cheap for the amount and i know for sure it works.i dont spend $30-50 on supps anymore for a month supply of prop blends.USPowders and Nutraplanet's bulk products are worth it very much.
 
if only usplabs had inner circle sales every week lol. that tna and prime deal is too good to pass up. now to come up w/ the money
