inter-racial relationships

To be clear, I actually don't take issue with what TT is saying. If his posts truly reflect what he really feels, then I respect that a hell of a lot more than someone who might come in here just spew out what is socially acceptable. We would all be hypocrites to say we have complete and equal tolerance for all colors and creeds. Developing a sense of understanding for other cultures far different from your own takes work. Let's not all act like it's some inherent goodness. When I moved to the Bay Area of California 16 years ago, I made a choice to work at it. Now, instead of being turned off by diversity, I thrive in a diverse area. Do some cultures still piss me off? Oh, yeah. I've had to overcome some real issues with Middle Eastern groups. But, I work at it and try not to let that primal ignorance we all possess take over. Enlightenment is a lifelong process.

So basically, I don't judge TT for his feelings on race. If he's honest, then I will honor his opinions... unless it's about college football. His crude delivery of his opinions is what sucks. He's not open to discussion, so he feels he can just drop a bomb and walk away from it with everyone's high regard.

I don't really care what someone is. If you want to be racist, that's your prerogative. It's not illegal. I don't believe it's anything to honor, but do as you will. It's your life.

I definitely respect his honesty, but to suggest I should respect and/or avoid judging the content of his honesty is silly. On the other hand, I also do not feel socially obligated to chastise TT because of adherence to abstract standards and principles of conduct. In fact, I think he is an idiot for no other reason than I personally feel it is idiotic to dislike somebody based on the color of their skin. I didn't think, "Well, I better say something or everybody will think I'm a bigot". I thought: "Well, what a moronic ****ing thing to say."

I wasn't suggesting you do anything... I was speaking for myself. I tell TT he's an idiot all the time. True story.

We need to work on our communication, but: I still have lingering feelings for you. As a result, I am willing to accept you back into our relationship. Just remember, though: I pitch, you catch!

TT seriously lacks tact and is quite defensive.
No need to attack people for disagreeing or constructively analyzing an opinion.

If someone chooses to dislike a group of people for reasons of race, then more power to them.
I prefer my opinion of people to be on how they treat and/or speak to me on an individual level.
Heck I dislike more of my blood relatives more than I do non family members.

Bit of both. 25/75 maybe? Skin to culture? I mean, I was boxing and I was the only non black in the gym. I was friends with the kids, wed joke around, do whatever. They were good kids. Doesnt mean Id love spending all my time hanging out with them or want them marrying my daughter.

Lol... you totally remind me of my dad except the fact that you're of a different race.
My dad is Sri Lankan and he carries on about the same crap.

Him: "You can be friends with other races but when it comes to life partner, it must be of the same race and culture"

Me: "Up urs dad! Go back to Sri Lanka"

I do understand where he's coming from though, but i don't think he understands past vs future

I can see how large scale racism and discrimination does occur in America though. It's not as simple as "i' hate you cuz of your skin color". There are bigger underlying issues such as class, illegal immigration influx, multi-cultural isolation, economic factors etc.

I think the comparison with your father may be inaccurate. He does not seem to dislike any particular race per default.

Many other rich nations are exposed to the same challenges!

I just have a hard time comprehending disliking someone simply because of skin color. Even if some people genuinely feel this is their stance, I really believe they have some underlying or subconscious negative feelings towards their culture more than their color.

I agree with IC, except where the bitch is green.

I dislike you for your skin color... and I'm the same color. Must've been that thread about the grainy formestane. Either that, or self-loathing on my part.

So whatever happend with the date? never got that part of it, if you did mention it in that mess of a thread, I am sorry, didn;t have the time or patience to search for it..............
