Heat Shock Proteins the real deal?

ok, so i've only noticed two companies promoting HSP products (MuscleTech and MRI)... is this a legit breakthrough in musclebuilding supp technology?

i was reading up on MRI's claims on this technology, and these HSPs are functional proteins that are generated inside your body, meaning that they aren't dietary proteins (whey protein, for example)...?

i don't fully understand it... can anyone shed some light on HSPs?

can't shed any light but GNC also has there own house brand of HSP and a book explaining some of the benefits Also seen an article in the last mens fitness I believe talking about HSP no brand in particular

Lol... oh Invalid Link Removed. Anybody here study molecular biology? This will bring back some good memories.

I'm not quite sure what sort of heat shock proteins they are putting in; however I imagine it would be quite expensive to isolate and extract HSPs. Not to mention when taken orally, proteins would get degraded to their constituent amino acids and lose any pre-existing structure-function unless MT somehow protects them from degradation. Without seeing their claims, it sounds like marketing BS.

Hello, stranger. :wave2:

MuscleTech, marketing BS?!!!?? What?!! Never!

i think gnc gives 100% money back guarantee to any products. so if it doesn't "add mass directly to your arms and chest", you can at least get your $50 back.

i heard that new MRI HSP Active makes you SWEAT like crazy.

Well if it's anything like Myo Shock it would be because it contains a **** load of caffeine. I think MyoShock has like 400mg per serving or something like that.

EDIT: Never mind, I just checked the Supp Facts on MRI. No stims.

Anything that puts stress a LOT of stress on the body upregulates HSP. Caffeine (400 mg) is an accepted and proven way to do this (as in the GNC and MT products), however, it is my understanding that this wouldnt do a thing for muscle growth as HSP's do more than just aid in converting dietary protein and aminos to muscle tissue, they are also used to mitigate stress (you know, like the stress your caffeine just caused?)

MRI's HSP active is basically prickly pear extract. The idea there was to extract the portion that boosts HSP from the fiber (which blocks absorption of the active). Makes sense and all. They even have clinicals proving that it indeed did increase HSP expression in trained athletes. Fantastic, right? Well MRI never funded any clinicals on changes in body composition or fat loss as a result of this increased HSP expression and I think that's hardly coincidental.

Bottom line, until proven otherwise HSP supplements are to muscle building as tribulus is to test boosting.

thanks Dagron. i hear what you're saying.

Steveoph, it wasn't supplementing HSPs in a dietary nature, it was using something to "activate" HSPs already existing in the body, so to speak.

my friend did a log where he would sit in a hot tub for 20 minutes after workouts to activate these HSP. I think they can only be activated at a certain temperature. I was not aware caffiene did this. any studies?

he had to quit early because he got injured and had to take a break from working out for awhile i think. Let me see if I can find his log if not ill ask him where he has it at.

Not really sure of the science in it.
But I did use Myoshock.
And yes, it does give a really good, almost painful pump. "In a good way"
It will cause you to sweat like crazy.
The only things that I did not like with it was an upset stomach after lifting.
Also eating 7 horse pills sucked.
But it did work.

JP.

i really would not suggest buying anything muscle tech makes.

Here is that Log

He had to quit because the hot tub broke at his gym. Go ahead and give it a read it might enlighten you.

In all reality, I did notice a surprisingly decent recovery from MRI War, but I honestly cant place that on the HSP's. Just a decent product thats not quite worth the price =]

Its basically just Amino's right? Those aid in recovery. I would try Xtend. Great taste....great price. Scivations customer service is also second to none.

If thats not an option then I heard good things about LG Sciences BCAA+EAA
or the ESSENTIALS by AI

Oh Hell, I love Xtend, I just made the mistake of getting watermelon lol =]. Not to hijack thread, but which Xtend taste is the best, in your opinion?

Yup; I realized that after reading MRI's writeup on it.

I still try and approach everything with unbiased views, even MT. However after reading MRI's writeup on the product, there appears to be no support in the literature (Other than that is is Invalid Link Removed, naturally), and they're only down a few, very small, and likely biased in house testing. The writeup is full of ambiguities like "One athlete even noted he stopped feeling fatigued. We’re not sure why this occurs – we just know it happens" . I would suggest you folks suggest your hard-earned money on more proven supplements at this point in time.

my top three would be

Watermelon
Grape
Lemonade

true in this case..TexOE owns the patent on HSPs and is exclusive to MRI...muscletechs version is an inferior knockoff at a heft price. Assuming this stuff has some promise, MRI's version is the only one at present worth trying.

exclusive use for bodybuilding? What about Source Naturals brand Nopal
Endurance which has TexOE listed on the label.......fairly large company that I dont believe would mislabel a product

He had a good idea..I would not trust any supplement to have this effect

Intermittent hyperthermia enhances skeletal muscle regrowth and attenuates oxidative damage following reloading.

Skeletal muscle reloading following disuse is characterized by profound oxidative damage. This study tested the hypothesis that intermittent hyperthermia during reloading attenuates oxidative damage and augments skeletal muscle regrowth following immobilization. Forty animals were randomly divided into four groups: Control (Con), Immobilized (Im), Reloaded (RC), and Reloaded and heated (RH). All groups but Con were immobilized for seven days. Animals in the RC and RH groups were then reloaded for seven days with (RH) or without (RC) hyperthermia (41-41.5 degrees C for 30 min on alternating days) during reloading. Heating resulted in ~25% elevation in HSP expression (p<0.05) and an approximate 30% greater soleus regrowth (p<0.05) in RH when compared to RC. Further, oxidant damage was lower in the RH group when compared to RC as nitrotyrosine and HNE was returned to near baseline when heating was combined with reloading. Reduced oxidant damage was independent of antioxidant enzymes (MnSOD, CuZnSOD, Cat, GPX, GRX). In summary, these data suggest that intermittent hyperthermia during reloading attenuates oxidative stress and improves the rate of skeletal muscle regrowth during reloading after immobilization. Key words: oxidant stress, heat shock protein, antioxidant, oxidative stress, hypertrophy.

I am not sure a supplement can activate HSP. I highly doubt it. I know exercise can activate them to an extent but a supplement? Skeptical. Very Skeptical

Essentials plus RecoveryPro plus Maniac makes a great preworkout stack.

hmm..interesting..best tell MRI..maybe you know something they dont.:privateeye:
