Shaddow vs. T-Roid & P-Plex

If it ain't one thing it's a motha****in' other....

I just hit a deer @ 50mph. It was INSANE!!! ****er came out of nowhere. I looked in my side mirror and saw it do about 3 billion flips before landing on the front end of an SUV going in the opposite direction. The SUV driver must have thought he was losing his mind cuz the deer must have looked like it fell from the sky. My car is overheating and it smells like I'm burning fluids. Pretty sure insurance is gonna total it. And now I have no way to get to the gym tonight. ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FML.

That sucks man. At least you are OK. Keep your head up.

My buddy's dad used to have those deer whistles on his car. When asked if they work he would always say he hasn't hit a deer yet. LOL

Man that's crazy. Well, I hope you gutted the sucker. Venison is good muscle fuel!...You okay? Your girlfriend?

The deer?...did PETA arrive at the scene?

Edit: Man, if I ever hit a deer, I'm going to make a scene. Act like I'm a huge animal lover.

"I'm SORRY DEER!!!! OOHHHH GOD!!! NOOOOOO!!!!" - All while crying.

^^^LOL

Yo man insurance will cover it. My gf's dad just had the same thing happen and everything was covered.

Could get a nice new car out of the deal! And maybe some deer steaks? Don't waste that sh*t!!!

If I did it, I'd be pissed off that I didn't have a knife and some Ziploc around.

He could have a spicy deductable. Most are 250 to 500 bucks... So yeah, its covered - after costing two months worth of supplements and food... :worried:

damn! how unfortunate.. i wish you all the best.

"shaddow doesn't hit deer at 50mph; deers run out and hit shaddow at 50mph."

jesus! this log is action-packed! Glad you're OK bro.

Venison is good. Recipe time:

Marinate tenderloins in red wine, garlic, fresh rosemary, tsp EVOO for a few hours.

Heat grill to MF hot. Sear each tenderloin for 1m each side.

Leave to cool for 5-10min before serve with cranberry jelly.

De-fkg-licous.

edit: PETA supporters can be marinated the same way. Beware of false legs (eg Paul McCartney's ex-wife)

Everytime someone says EVOO, a little piece of me dies. The only time I want to see her on TV ever again is for some sort of snuff hate rape film.

"That's like that time we watched that snuff film at your uncles house..."

*****

"Oh my God! Are they really going to kill her?!"

"Peter, people are trying to watch the movie."

Damn Shaddow!! When it rains it pours! Your insurance should cover car rentals for 15-30 days (depending). I know how it is and I can sympathize to having some BS derail your trip to the gym.

One morning I took 5 rpms and 25mg Ephedrine HCL, I felt it kick in, I drank my BCAA's and my car won't start for like 15 min, it kept dying out, so when it finally started, I had to drive it straight to my car shop, all hopped up on stims and restless from my inherent desire to lift that morning. I said phunk it and rented a car to hit the gym, paid out of pocket (I needed the car for 3 days, so...), all to say, that sucks.

I've only ever ran over an already dead squaral and it felt like running over a giant cracker.

I'm fine. I was heading out to pick up some chicken breasts to come home and marinate before heading to the gym. My gf was gonna come with me but she was tired so I told her to take a nap and I'd be back in a bit. The funny thing is I was joking around and told her I could get there and back much faster if she wasn't with me cuz I could drive like an *******. Totally joking around. But she was all like, "OMG, no, please be careful, it's raining..." Then 10 minutes later I'm calling her telling her my car is totaled. I wasn't even speeding either (it was too nasty out to speed ;)). Thank God she wasn't with me though, cuz she would have flipped out.

The deer died on impact.

No, I did not gut it. There was no way in hell I was walking out into the middle of the street to **** with it cuz there was moderately heavy traffic, it was dark, and raining, and there are no street lights there, and cars were already swerving to avoid it in the street. Also, and quite frankly, roadkill's just not my thing. I am far from a redneck. :006: I'm also far from one of those PETA folks, but I am an animal lover, and I honestly felt bad for the poor ****er, even after he took out my car. (*******!)

I continued on to the store after the incident cuz I was only like half a mile away and I figured I could get a better look at my car under the parking lot lights. When I drove back home the deer was completely mangled and on the shoulder, so I can only imagine how many other cars must have hit it.

I actually just went out and looked at my car, and it doesn't look as bad as I'd initially thought. My only concern is what kind of damage took place under the hood cuz I could definitely smell fluids burning. It could be bad, or the hood may simply be pressed up against the radiator, not allowing it to spin correctly for all I know. My buddy's supposed to come over and take a look at my car today and see what he thinks and then we'll decide whether or not I should report it to insurance. He can put a car together from scratch, and has tons of connections for parts, so if it's fixable, he'll know, and he'll gladly help me do it at no (labor) cost. My deductible is $500, so either way, it's gonna cost me a bit of doe. (har har. There's my bad pun for the day.)

I believe my insurance will pay me back for a car rental, but they won't front me. I have to send in my bills afterwards. So that sucks.

The worst part is that my insurance just went down, and my record was spotless after years of reckless driving, tickets, and a couple of accidents from my earlier crazy youth fueled racing days. Literally, I think like 2 months ago my record should have showed up spotless. And now this.

5 RPM's and 25mg ephedrine... Holy crap, dude. That's nuts.

Speaking of racing days. Two stories.

Briefly: I was driving my pimp-my-ride all white Integra back in the day, so a hot blond in a mustang ahead of me, pulled up next to her at a stop sign with a nice straight-a-way away. Revved at her sort of jokingly, but then she revved back, so it was on. We shoot down the road, going 75 on a 35 and bam, motorcycle cop was hiding off to the side and nailed us. He goes up to her vehicle first, then lets her go, so I'm thinking, "cool, he's going to let us off on a warning" Nope, he gave me a ticket, he let her go because, "I was the lead car." WE BOTH BROKE THE SPEED LIMIT!!! WHO CARES WHO'S "THE LEAD CAR." That was so jacked.

Story two, Briefly: My friend bootleg hooked up my stereo system. He wired it to my battery wrong or something weird, but I was driving up a hill and my deck short circuits, a hear an electric snap, smoke on my dash and my car completely died out. No emergencies, only brakes and I had to make my way 3 lanes to my right, to the shoulder (I was on a freeway) with no accelerator or blinkers or emergencies, with my car slowly like crazy due to the incline of the hill. That was jacked, but not as jacked as the bastard cop.

My weight is way down today and I have no one to blame but myself for that. I've been hungry but I just haven't been eating. :banghead:

I feel like I haven't been to the gym in forever. I've definitely been missing too many workouts - I think that's 2 in the past week? Completely unacceptable. :twak: If my strength is down I'm gonna be furious. :zx11pissed:

I'm gonna try and get that incline fly video tonight for critiques. I really wanna know what I'm doing wrong here. I've never uploaded a video to youtube, so this will be a first.

I'm still pissed off about my car. I'm gonna try and channel the anger to fuel my workout. :angryfire: :aargh4:

While I'm at it, here's a little more fuel. This song always pumps me up and makes me want to beat the **** out of someone. Invalid Link Removed

I'm gonna go eat and listen to some angry fighting music for the next couple hours until I hit the gym.

Day 41: Wednesday, May 6
Weight: 202 (+13.6) :frustrate

Workout #17 - A3

Incline db flies: 2 warm-ups @ 40x18, 60x12
Working set with rest-pauses: 85x9 +3 +2 - PR

Then jumped straight into a set of BB bench press @ 135x20.

I've got video for critiquing on all 3 sets minus my rest-pauses!! My gf filmed me, but, hey, she had to workout too. I can tell my form was a little off on my working set. Not to make excuses, but I felt really weak today despite going up on a lot of exercises. I'm not sure how that happened. Still managed one more rep than last time too. Was a bit of a frustrating day for me...

BB shoulder press: 2 warm-ups @ 65x18, 105x12
Working set with rest-pauses: 145x6 +3 +1

I tried my working set @ 155, but I couldn't even lift the bar, dropped it to 145, and lost 4 reps on my working set. WTF? Like I said, frustrating day for me.

Bent-over triceps extensions: 2 warm-ups @ 80x18, 120x12
Working set with rest-pauses: 160x11 +6 +4

I should've gone up, but did this @ the same weight as last time cuz I was feeling weak as hell. Then I managed to hit a ton more reps. Seriously, what's going on here??

Pull-ups: 2 warm ups @ BWx15, 10
Working set with rest-pauses: +40lbs x 5 +2 +2

I haven't hit 15 reps on pull-ups since I weighed 170. WTF?! Managed to go up 20 more pounds on my working set from last time around.

Wide-grip cable rows:

RAN OUT OF TIME!! GYM CLOSED! Grrrrrrr..... I'll probably try to hit the gym tomorrow to do these if I can find a way to get there.

Notes:

I was a slug in the gym today. Just wasn't feeling it. I don't know what happened to my shoulder presses. Still trying to figure that out. Still can't believe I hit 15 pull-ups. Maybe it's the weight loss? I'm down 4lbs in like 5 days. Man, that pisses me off. Diet needs to get back up to par stat. If I can I'll get into the gym for wide-grip cable rows, some ab work, and cardio tomorrow.

Time to try and upload these videos. Let's see if I can figure this out...

Incline fly videos for critique!!

Alright guys. Here we go. Go ahead and give it to me. I'm a man. I can take it.

I can see a definite difference in my form between 40x18 vs. 85x9 for sure. So I know I was far from perfect. But I'd still like some feedback regardless.

Don't ask me. I suck at form on that exercise. I always opt for the machines or cables purely because my form is so crappy with the DBs. Mine definitely look more like presses towards the end, and yours kind of did as well...that's why I don't dig DB Flyes so much. I think the machines are much better fitting for that exercise. They really allow you to extend your arm all the way out and get a nice, long stretch.

How come you don't yell sweet phrases like, "Ya ba-bayyyy!!!!" or "Light weight ba-bayyyyy!!!!!!" - Instantly adds 3 reps to each exercise. ;)

I see what you're saying, and I definitely see that as well when watching myself perform these on video. I definitely couldn't stretch my arms out as far and spread my chest as wide on my heavy set, and I feel like I probably didn't go down far enough on them either. Def. a big difference in the way my reps look @ 40lbs vs. 85lbs. I figured I wasn't doing these right, and that's why I had them video taped and posted them up here. It's kinda neat having the video to look at though. I've never really seen myself lift before. :006:

I'm def. hoping Volcom can give me some constructive feedback here cuz I know he'll lay it down all proper like. :wave2:

I like how you roll those DB up into position - very fluid!

Your form looks good as far as focussing on the movement, but personally I have far less bend in my elbows, otherwise it becomes more of a press.

Exactly. I think you really have to pick some lighter weight to get the correct form down. You should really have your arms extended pretty far out with little bend in the elbows.

Gotcha. I see that. So basically my arms are supposed to be spread apart as far as possible? I definitely see that my arms go to like 90 degree angles. I'm picturing my arm position on cables. Should they be truly 0 degrees or just slightly bent?

I'm gonna work on the movement with much less weight but I think I will probably switch these out for cables. I've always loved incline cable low pulley flies.

Just a slight bend - you don't want to put that pressure on your elbow joint - might be best to practice with flat flys - I find them a lot easier.

They are awesome for a finishing move  - I wouldn't give up on your DB flys though, just cycle incl., flat and cables in and out of your routine.

you don't need a lesson in form at all. You have solid form when your fresh and it breaks up a tad as you fatigue which is natural, but you don't break up to the point of illegitimacy. Me personally, on the incline, I allow my upper back to come off the bench, that sort of inherently occurs if you really let those DB's drop low. I like to break parallel with the body, but that also requires a bit more bend at the elbows. At this point, you could start debating less bend, more torque to overcome vs more bend, deeper stretch, so, of those two methods, I leave it up to subjective preference without getting too anal.

The only thing I would add to in terms of critique, wouldn't be form related, but intensity related. I think the struggle you put into your third set should be about at that level during your second set.

I'd go 75, 80, 85. Unless you were intentionally doing a 2 set warm up to 1 intensive set, HIT style. 20-40lbs fluxuations (and more) in Barbell weight is normal, but if your 3rd set is 40lbs heavier in Db weight then your first set, then your first set was 30lbs too light.

You look strong enough to handle 75, 80, 85, or maybe 70, 75, 80, to end on 8 reps'ish. Nice work and good video quality.

Nope, not spread apart all the way, like Jake had said. I would keep the bend at 90-135 degrees; this way, you will still get good stretch, and you will not have much stress on your elbow. Personally, I like my arms bent at a 90 degree angle as you have yours. However, I do like to have the incline up a few notches higher. When I extend and fly up the weight, I do not touch both ends of the DB together, but only the top two, closest to where my thumbs are - For me, namely, it takes a lot more stress off of my delts. Other than the above stated, your form will do just fine, from my point of view.

As for cables, I only do two movements on them for my chest: Standing Incline Crossovers (start from the top) and Standing Decline Crossovers (start from the bottom). I do not care much for the seated movements on cables as I save those seated/lying movements for BB and DB.

So you would consider those legitimate reps then? I think I understand what you're saying about your upper back coming off the bench. Shoulder blades stay on the bench, but the arch in your back raises away from the bench, bringing your lower & upper back up off the seat back, is that correct? Could possibly be a lumbar issue. To be honest, I *thought* I was breaking parallel, but the video does show that I could be going a bit lower.

That's actually exactly what I was doing. I'm training DC style, so it was a 2-set warm-up, followed by my heavy set with two rest-pauses @ the same weight. So, 85x9, 12-15 breaths, 85x3, 12-15 breaths, then 85x1. I didn't get the rest-pauses video taped, but my form was similar - the reps just were down a bit from that set (obviously). My gf was working out too and we were really short on time before they closed as it was, so I told her to go hit the weights.

You look strong enough to handle 75, 80, 85, or maybe 70, 75, 80, to end on 8 reps'ish. Nice work and good video quality.

I actually usually switch up the angle when I switch my routine around. So I'm at the lowest incline setting right now, two months ago when I was doing them I did them @ 1 notch higher. And 2 months before that they were 2 notches up. I get what you're saying about touching just the top end of the db's too. Makes sense.

As for cables, have you ever tried incline bench low pulley cables flies? They're pretty freaking money. I personally really enjoy them, just haven't done them in a few months.

Thanks for the additional feedback, bro. Much appreciated.

no prob. to add, i don't hold the db's parallel, that is, directly up and down. there's a slight angle in the way i hold the db's while doing flies; i have them positioned like i would touch them at the top. i've never used any sort of bench setup while doing cables. perhaps i may give the incline bench low pulley cable flies a try today, but it's just the motivation in wheeling the heavy ass bench all the way across the gym.

Gotcha. Cool, thanks, bro.

And I hear you about moving the bench! It's especially a bitch when the gym's full and you've gotta wheel it around people or pick it up, but that's part of the reason I enjoy my late night workouts. I can move equipment and hog stations and use multiple locations at once, it's great.

Yea I was wondering about your form when you said you were doing 80lb incline flys but those are very legit. Good for you, thats great. I go lower to get more of a stretch but thats personal preference.

My best friend's home from NY and we just threw a football around for about 45 minutes. Good news is I can still throw like 60 yards. Bad news is my arm feels like it's gonna fall off. LOL. Good times. Time to go eat!

I'm not gonna get into the gym for those wide-grip cable rows today after all. I'm sore and I need the day off. DOMS has come back with a vengeance. My calves are still sore from Sunday. LOL. I may try and squeeze them in on Friday when I go to the gym, but it'll depend on how I'm feeling. I'm kinda tempted to just drop them and move on with the program. Gonna be an early gym day for me tomorrow cuz the gf gets off work @ like 3 and we've got a date in the evening.

Anyways, yeah, food time for me. :food:

Hey, thanks, bro! I'm gonna work on bringing my back off the bench more so I can stretch deeper at the bottom of my reps and have a longer range of motion. Appreciate the comment, and thanks for tagging along. :wave2:
