The Unemployment Support Thread

I know how you feel man. I haven't worked in 3 months. I was an electrician. I worked for the company for 4yrs and 3months. I got my crane opperators certification. so hopefully things will turn around. I will keep you in my prayers hopefully we'll both get jobs.

As the title states - I got hit!

Last week - 01/15/09 I was laid off. Been with them for three years.

I have been very blessed recently as I have not been out of work for nearly 5 years. There was a patch there about 7 years ago when I had some setbacks. Those setbacks made me a better man. Here's to the better man that is on the way.

Romans 5:3-5
"Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us."

Galations 6:9
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

Don't feel like you are alone. If you need support - look no further.

Any luck yet?

As far as I'm concerned, I had a test last week for dispatcher at a local PD. (This is the only place I've heard from since December btw).

Out of this test, the top 5 move to the next round. I was tied for 3rd. There were 3 people left to test and all 3 had to do better than I did for me to drop off.

Eventually they will continue to narrow down and hire 2.

I'm up to 30 hours weekly but still on the hunt for another job. No responses from any of my resumes.

These are certainly tough times. I wish you all a short unemployment period (the shortest possible unless you're taking a break). And for those still employed, a steady job for as many years as you want.

I went back to college part time last month. The company I work for has been reduced significantly and it is scary. I don't have a degree and have let too much time pass.

Any luck yet?
Submitted my resume to a promising position on Thursday 1/29. I called them on Monday to tell them I was very eager for an interview. He stated he was fielding many resumes and that he would get back the following Wednesday, not this next one but the following one.

To my surprise he calls me the next day Tuesday and schedules me an interview on Thursday.

Interview is outstanding. They love me. I love them. I thought we made a great fit. Before I leave they tell me that they will call in a couple days to schedule a second interview with the rest of the staff. To my surprise I get home from the interview and one half hour later they call and want me to meet with the rest of the staff on the very next Monday.

I'm out Friday afternoon enjoying the day with my little girl. I get home and my wife tells me she has bad news. She is sorry. They called and left her the message that they wanted to pursue another candidate.

Hurt my feelings because they fooled me into thinking they thought I was the find and the fit that they had been looking for. I felt like it was. I'm over it. No luck since.

sorry to hear about that. I can only partially relate, as the firm I work at could not afford pay roll for 2 pay cycles, so it was more like a set back.

Guys, go buy as much storable food as you can, or even just like a boat load of Ramen noodles if its the only thing u can afford. The economy is being destroyed by design by the Bankers who run the world just like the great depression was by design by them, Rothschild, Rockefeller's, etc.

They want everyone dependant on the gov for everything, FOOD, shelter etc. Riots will ensue when noone can buy food anymore and people start going hungry, then martial law will be declared. Buy your own food now while you still can! Trust me.

LOL

See the thing is, it actually is, but with all their propaganda from media and the college industrial complex making us all think the same, it's hard to think outside of the box and even comtemplate something so sinister and downright terrifying, but believe me, it is happening right before our eyes. :poke:

I agree...colleges don't educate as much as they indoctrinate.

I agree...colleges don't educate as much as they indoctrinate.

I'm not going to weigh my opinion on this topic either way as to not turn this into a political discussion, but in my observations, my college professors feel it appropriate to express their point of views through a liberal POV, but they feel uneasy and tread lightly as to not sound to conservative when expressing a POV.

It doesn't matter to myself as I know where i stand, but it is odd. There are professors I KNOW are conservative, but when lecturing, they feel very uncomfortable when a conservative opinion starts to leak out and immediately "rectify" the situation by sounding more liberal.

College is suppose to be an environment of open debate and establishing your own ground, but there seems to only be one "accepted" POV.

see the funny thing is that paranoid people have been saying the same thing for i dunno, 200 years or so.

see the funny thing is that paranoid people have been saying the same thing for i dunno, 200 years or so.

200 years?... well, it's been about 100 years since the federal reserve bill was passed by the president woodrow wilson, who had a VERY interesting quote about it after he did it saying he messed up big time.. check it out ;) That was in 1913. You know what the really funny thing now is? When it's actually happening out in the OPEN, as it is now, many are still so stubborn to see the truth, I mean this isn't even a conspiracy anymore, they are publicly announcing world government is good, we need a new world order, etc..

If you still think this is a conspiracy theory it's time to turn off the T.V and do some research before it's too late and you find you're in one of those FEMA camps, WHICH by the way they have just passed all the bills not even a month ago making them OFFICIAL.. this is all out in the open in the public, no conspiracy theories. Noone believed this. Noone believed it was true we would have the military brigades patrolling the streets of the U.S 10yrs ago they thought wow you're crazy, but now.. it's OFFICIAL, and they are here for CIVIL UNREST as quote by them and or to help with a DISASTER, but they condition us incrementally with the military helping people in car wrecks and etc, it's all BULL, they are here to protect and serve whatever the global elite want to do to us. :usa2:

This thread was started to support those looking for employment and how they are progressing on doing so. It is also a means of seeking support from others in similar situations and seeking suggestions towards seeking employment. Lets keep the conspiracy theories for another thread shall we?

With all due respect, this is in direct relation to unemployment and people being unable to get jobs.

The whole financial crisis has been generated by design, and by design, they want a depression, a depression WORSE than 1929 (which they also generated and made a killing off of) but now the bankers don't just want to take our money (which they are doing with these bailouts and stimulus packages and etc and by killing the economy = mass job loss) they want total control.

Their goal is, economy = dead. No jobs, noone can buy food, nothing, we will be 100% dependant on them. Civil riots are bound to happen from people starving, in which time, they will declare martial law, and bam, we're all going to FEMA camps.

See, the thing is, you must realize.. yes, you lost your job, it's bad, but it's going to get A LOT worse, and it's coming fast. Is getting a new job gonna help you? I guess in the short term, make sure you stock up on food and such items or you will be forced to depend on Big Brother and thats what they want.

Oh also, they are going to take everyones pension, etcetc..looting us dry.

Positive support thread for those seeking employment. What you have stated in your last post does none of this and as far as i can tell, wouldn't be much help in getting someone a job. Feel free to open another thread discussing this additional topic but not here.

I've actually been considering truck driving while I return to school.

You Never Let Go

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
Your perfect love is casting out fear
And even when I’m caught in the middle of the storms of this life
I won’t turn back
I know You are near

And I will fear no evil
For my God is with me
And if my God is with me
Whom then shall I fear?
Whom then shall I fear?

Chorus:
Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me

And I can see a light that is coming for the heart that holds on
A glorious light beyond all compare
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
We’ll live to know You here on the earth

Chorus:

Yes, I can see a light that is coming for the heart that holds on
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
Still I will praise You, still I will praise You

Mother in law lost job months ago.(teacher)
Father lost job a week ago.(finance)
Father in law lost job 2 days ago.(engineer)

Boy, its just lovely out there.

It's something, isn't it?

I talked to a guy that still worked at my old place. They laid off more and the rest will be facing salary cuts.

I got an email a few days ago from a former co-worker, and she told me that they temporarily shut down another of the plants here.

So that means I oversaw four, and one is left.

The guy on the otherside of the state had two, now he has one.

All together, out of six rock quarry's in the state they owned, they now have two...and the only reason they are open is because they are contracted with the state to produce the rock for asphalt.

B5150, sorry to hear about this bro. I hope something comes up for you soon. Glad to know where you turn for guidence and wisedom (gospel). Blessings and prayers for you!

Damn Brian, just read this and it sucks to see this happening to millions of people. I'm lucky enough to have left the teaching field and now have a job where we might be facing lay-offs in July 2010 if things don't improve by then.

My brother lost his job 3 weeks ago and my dad took a slight pay cut.

I have overcome greater obstacle in the past. I have faith that I am going to be fine. I'm a little short of joyfulness right now, but I am working on it. :)

It is an opportunity to take inventory of your blessings...despite the circumstances.

i hope the search for employment is going well for you all and my condolences and prayers go out to those of you who are struggling. seek and you will find my brothers and sisters! indirect quote from the only Book that truly satisfies human nature's thirst for knowledge.

i applied for a job at Baptist Hospital (ranked among the top 100 companies to work for by Fortune Magazine) and it's been about 3 weeks or so but i received notice from a friend who put in a good word for me and works with the hospital that she spoke with the Hiring Manager of the dept. i applied for and they will begin the hiring process in approximately 2-3 weeks and thanks to that good word put in for me, my application should be one of the first to be looked at! keeping hopeful about this job! let's see how it goes!:ponder:
Extra time for cardio, and the kids :D
i see my time unemployed the same way. swap the cardio, keep the heavy lifting and take away the kids :sly:

This is a period of time that I'm thankful I put up with the politics at XOM. Not to say my situation could never change in regards to employment but doesn't seem like it.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:12

Would anyone happen to know any good websites or books that can help me with my resume?
Last time I typed one up was in High School..many years ago.

Thanks

I personally liked Resume Maker, a software program. But I also look up sample resumes on the web and then I pull out key words from the ad for the position. GOOD LUCK:fing02:

I'm sorry for those who have been displaced and are having difficulty finding a job - hang in there, I hope things change positively for you soon.

Just yesterday the company I work for had another wave of layoffs, it is getting real scary. As I go through web sites to help my displaced friends find job leads and write recommendations, I've realized I too need to update my resume and brush up my skills in case I end up unemployed in the near future.

Rant warning:aargh:

stupidmother:censored: state of Ky. :moon::madfawk:

I've never had such a hard time with unemployment in my whole life!

First I claim it when I was laid off this time and my request date was Dec. 25...christmas. I had other things to do then as I'm sure most people did.

When I went to claim it the fllowing Monday, I couldn't and had to refile...then wait another 2 weeks to request a check.

I request and get the check about a week and a half later. Due to my being laid off 3x in 3 years my "pool" is a little low and I get a whopping $230 every 2 weeks. That's enough to cover my personal bills, but my wife is basically supporting us.

Then we had the massive ice storm here in Ky....I was without power, phone, and water for about a week. I couldn't claim that week. Sure enough I got power, tried to request and had to refile!

Well I call the local office, get sent to voicemail, leave my name and number and what was going on....never heard anything. I sent an email, and 2 days later was told to go to the local office. Well, that place is packed liked sardines, and I have ADD and don't sit to well. screw it, I already refiled online...

I file for my next check. I've waited 2 weeks...since the last check took so ong I didn't think a lot of it. Today I had to file again, and thinking it was f'ed up I'm requesting before I got my last check I call to inquire. Of course it was automated. It says that my request was made and my account credited, but no check sent. :261:

Does that mean that Ky is broke?

How the hell are people supposed to pay bills that way?

I dunno what were gonna do....my savings are dwindling and my wife's job can only afford so much....

$40 billion to provide extended unemployment benefits through Dec. 31, and increase them by $25 a week

Received my notice today that I am eligible and will be compensated retroactive (will take several weeks to implement) from week ending 2-28-2009

Yeah I found that out too.

I also found out that the reason I have'nt recieved my checks was because someone f'ed up :buttkick: And people want the Gov. to run more stuff.....:pat:

I'm going to get 4 weeks worth of checks, plus they'll "investigate" to see if I can get the check I missed from the ice storm "because I waited so long". :angryfire:

rantSTART
This job search is reaching a pitiful point. have turned in quite a few applications and have not received one call back. this open "assault" case is really bugging me, too. i have a feeling that's what's holding me back tremendously. the worst part about it is the assault case is bogus. I've lawyerd up and the case will most likely be dismissed but in the meantime it's fiddling with my chances of obtaining a job, nonetheless a good one. :indifferent: funds have been so tight I haven't even been able to start up at the gym and the grocery bill keeps become more and more of a burden so can't keep up with a steady diet. ;sigh; :happysad:
rantEND.

I pray things get better. it's hard to believe they will at a time like this. i wish you all the best and more during these hard times! knowing you're weak is when you're really being strong and now is the time to come together and pull even harder.

have a good one folks. or at least try to! you're in our prayers!

I am jobless still(4-5 months later) but not really as bad off... I aquired some massive debt during this time, but I now work as a roofing salesman but the income is commission and not really stable enough for me. In the next week I have the potential to earn 2K, but I earned $ 450 last month.... so not working lol.

I can feel fr you all, I am a single guy though, and am staying with my parents(at 22 :( ) I feel bad for the families out there, and people who have others who depend on them.

And its only gona get a lil bit worse.

After ten weeks I have found a job. It will be for less money and more responsibility but the second interview and only offer I have had in the entire ten weeks.

In reality this is a dream opportunity to start up a quality system in a privately owned up and coming design and manufacture company. Their future is very bright. It is my prayer that I can live up to their performance expectations.
