Volcom's Optimus PRIME Log

The most pronounced effect I received from my PRIME run was its innate abilty to allow me to extend my reps way beyond the norm. Especially weeks 3 through 6. I could just keep on grindin' 'em out even when I thought I was almost done.

And if you finished all that volume in 45 minutes, you must have kept a very quick pace indeed.

Good work Big V!

I have noticed those extra, unexpected abilities to extend my reps, with an emphasis on unexpected. There are those sets where the current effort it required to complete the present set allows you to pre-anticipate the performance for the next set and I have exceeded those pre-anticipated reps quite often.

It's those little things that keep me in a motivated mood during a workout.

That's an odd feeling, your able to go beyond what your mind can comprehend. It's kind of strange, as i got more used to it I just got more and more agressive with my increases. I had to retrain my mind to accept the fact that I could push much harder.

Some random holiday cheer for your thread Sam my man..

Day 22; Intensity

Invalid Link Removed

Day 21 (yesterday) was a rest day.

Today, I really wanted to do a double session. However, I woke up a little late and became extremely tight on time (before work). My options were either to have a sub-par morning workout (as a result of a time constraint) and my second one later, or I could simply concentrate on my after work, workout. I concluded with simply pushing myself to the brink with a 100% morning workout, within 30 min.

Brachioradialis emphasized, biceps workout

Barbell Reverse Curls
65lbs x 10 reps
85lbs x 10 reps
105lbs x 6 reps

Vertical Preacher, EZ Bar Reverse Curls
55lbs x 10 reps
65lbs x 8 reps
75lbs x 6 reps

Cable, EZ Bar Reverse Curls
120lbs x 10 reps
140lbs x 8 reps
160lbs x 6 reps

Smith-Barbell, Reverse Drag Curls - Suicide Grip
65lbs x 10 reps
85lbs x 10 reps
105lbs x 10 reps
125lbs x 6 reps

Cable, One Arm Reverse Curls - Suicide Grip
50lbs x 10 reps, each arm
60lbs x 10 reps, e.a.
70lbs x 10 reps, e.a.
80lbs x 10 reps, e.a.
90lbs x 8 reps, e.a.
100lbs x 6 reps, e.a.

35 min and I was out of there. If all goes well, I'll be able to get a second workout in later, as planned.

I rotate hammer curls in & out of these Brachio days. I normally start with hammer curls, cross body, concentrated hammers....etc., but then there are days I keep with reverse curls throughout. I have to be in a particularly aggressive mood to hit the hammer curls, especially with my current standard of 60-70lbs Db's for my curls. Perhaps next time.

Volc, I know you can go to 11 but I think we should take it back down to 10. You are making me look bad! Keep up the good work bud. Still feeling lethargic in the afternoons?

My lethargy has seemed to reach a plateau, and that's one plateau I don't mind. Either I have simply grown accustomed to being partially tired all the time, or because I've stopped making those ridiculous jumps, my CNS isn't being taxed as hard and therefore, not demanding as much rest (or causing as severe of a lethargy). Either way, I am still feeling the lethargy, but it's bearable now, which is actually quite good, because I was anticipating the lethargy to become progressively worse.

still feel the need for the extra boost? (caffeine)

I have two, 24 oz coffees a day, so I sip on that and it helps. I think a blast of 200mg caffeine would result in a stim crash and compounded with already existing lethargy, I'd be hibernating by 4:00pm everyday.

In short, yes, but I seem to be okay for the time being.

Ever considered rpm? It seems to keep me going through the day when I don't feel like moving.

It appears as though Volcom has taken every stim there is. Volc, didn't you say that RPM only worked for about two weeks before you didn't feel the effects anymore?

I think he has. I built up a tolerance to rpm as well pretty quickly.

I never got anything off RPM. Worthless imo..

Honestly, some days it was great, other days it didn't do anything. It was sort of hit or miss for me. I don't know why that is. I bought the Big Block a while back and still have about half a bottle left. I've been taking so many other pre-workout things I have no need for it now.

I'll probably take some Reset-AD again before I use it. This stim-talk reminds me that I've got to put my Basic Cuts in the freezer. I probably won't get to it before the expiration date in March.

I can't use RPM consistently, I seem to build a resistance for that about as fast as ephedrine (if used consistently). I only use RPM on rare occasions, I actually crash pretty hard on that stuff. Last time I took RPM, I had about a 2hr window of energy, then a hideous crash and I haven't used it since.

Initially, I had an amazing reaction to RPM. I got pumped full of energy, aggressive and I made strength improvements, however, I've never had an experience that good since (my first bottle).

I considered a Basic Cuts + Geranium combo, but then I found out Phenadrine is basically that.

that sounds like a good combo. i like basic cuts. its a pretty basic stim and gets the job done (imagine that ).

and i really want to try geranium stand alone to see how good it is. ive used it as part of jacked and core zap, and both were good.

I had some minor fatigue mid cycle but it disapated then when Jacked came along it disappeared.

Yeah, the basic cuts + geranium is a very good syngery. I've heard a lot of good things about Core Zap and so far, Jacked is getting a lot of praise, which for our current atmosphere of haters, is saying quite a bit.

Before I understood what was in Basic Cuts, I wrote it off as a nothing supplement (in my own ignorance), but after inquiring and acquiring some knowledge about their particular ingredients, I became very interested, but only if stacked with geranium.

well it seems that you have gotten used to the lethargy and have adapted to it. as long as you can get your lifts in and it doesn't interfere with your personal life I think you should be golden

Jacked has Beta Alanine in it right? I have a peanut allergy to BA it seems. The level of paresthesia I get seems radically severe and oddly uncommon.

That sucks... the two are a winning combination. What I like so far about jacked is I am only just able to tollerate it so I only have to use one scoop. My tollerance so far has not increased hardly at all so I can continue dosing low.

There's not that much Beta-Alanine in JACKED big V. I'm guessing 1 gram per scoop. The JACKED by itself does not give me the BA tingles like I love. So I'm adding an extra 5 grams to my 3 scoop JACKED serving!!

But you know how I roll!! I love the lightening running through my veins!!

I think you would love either a 1 or 2 scoop JACKED serving before your workouts.

3 scoops has 2.5g of BA gentlemen. (~0.8g /Scoop)

Steveo at your service, bringing you the science ;)

Also if you truly have a peanut allergy to BA, try taking a non-drowsy antihistamine and see if that decreases the paresthesia.

I've often wondered if some Benadryl would help relieve some of Sam's symptoms.

For anyone, stim junkie or not, Basic Cuts will be the weakest stim you'll ever choke down. I could pop 6 caps of those without anything noticable .. So I'd steer clear of it, V, being that you're about as in love with stims as I am . . .

Stim in a preworkout is ok but I don't really want one in my fat burner if I can help it. My sleep is to valuable to me, I'm fugged with out it.

I've considered that before. I wanted to take some Benadryl when I was logging White Flood CAPS to see if it would alleviate some of the paresthesia.

You and Thomas are the two biggest fans of paresthesia I know!

Is that why they stopped making it? It just wasn't strong enough for most general public?

By itself, yes, it is weak, but it's a very nice addition to three caps of RPM and some E...and for $8, how could you beat it?

Volc, I think they discontinued them because Designer Supplements is no longer in business. It's been taken over by a new company. I guess that was one of the products they decided to quit making. As of right now, I think Activate Xtreme is the only product on their list. It's been reformulated for the THIRD time, and it looks incredible. I can't wait to try it.

I liked Basic Cuts myself. But I added my ECAY to it!

I wish DS would lower their Activate Xtreme prices as low as the basic cuts. I'd load up on that shit!! :head:

Ya, I definitely don't take it by itself. I sort of just consider it the caffeine portion of my ECY stack. 25mg E + 3 Basic Cuts + 2.5-5mg Y-hcl, or 3 Basic Cuts + 3-5 RPM, depending on my workout. ECY for cardio, RPM + BC for weights.

Bahaha! $8 for AX would be pretty sick.

I have my good days and my not so good days. Today has been the latter. However, the day isn't over yet, and I may still get the gumption to workout somehow, after all.

Day 23; Steady Improvements

Invalid Link Removed

Today was one of those over pull lat pull down days. I'll be incorporating more row motions, more often as I feel my erectors returning to full health.

I made subtle, but definite improvements today, a few extra reps here, a few extra sets there as a result and my ending strength toward the conclusion of my workout was the strongest it's ever been for a day like today.

Lat Pull Downs - Overhand
290lbs x 10 reps
295lbs x 8 reps
300lbs x 8 reps
305lbs x 6 reps [whole extra set due to the performance of the previous set]

Lat Pull Downs - Underhand
250lbs x 10 reps
255lbs x 8 reps
260lbs x 8 reps
265lbs x 6 reps [whole extra set due to the performance of the previous set]

Lat Pull Downs - Behind The Neck
190lbs x 10 reps
195lbs x 8 reps
195lbs x 8 reps

Hammer Lat Pull Downs
180lbs x 10 reps
200lbs x 8 reps
210lbs x 8 reps
230lbs x 6 reps [whole extra set due to the performance of the previous set]

Hammer Lat Pull Downs - Behind the Neck
180lbs x 10 reps
200lbs x 8 reps [I didn't expect to have the strength to pyramid]
210lbs x 6 reps [previously stated]

TWO GYM BLOOPERS

Blooper #1
There was this big guy at the gym today, I was working out next to him and some high school kid walks up and starts asking this big guy about supplement advice.

Big guy has a gym bag and pulls out a bottle of TREN EXTREME. He tells the kid to run a 8 week cycle, no talk of PCT.

That wasn't the blooper, here's the blooper:
Big Guy: "You need to do TREN, at least 2 bottles worth. The first bottle only loads your body and the second bottle is when it starts working."
High School Kid: "I've heard of TREN, my friends do it, but I've never tried that myself. I've used Superdrol though."
Big Guy: Superdrol?!?! What the hell is Superdrol?!?!

and the Big Guy was saying "Superdrol?!?!" in a condenscending manner, like Superdrol was the Fizogen Strap or something. I almost said something, but whatever.

Blooper #2
I saw some guy working out with a sucker in his mouth. He was doing lateral raises, with a sucker in his mouth. I've heard of intra-workout glucose support, but damn. After he finishes his sucker, he pulled out a second and popped it in his mouth.

Its moments like those that i feel, as well as driving and shopping, as a society that we have undermined natural selection.

You could slap them and say "no, bad, go lay down", or try to educate them and inevitably arrive at your conclusion.... just doing your best to laugh, smile and carry on being superior in a sense. That is for your knowledge that allows you to see their error in the making.

It is never in vain to try to help another, but gym time is too short to fill those shortcomings.

Edit: crazy numbers bro.

Sadly those kind of people tend to breed the most  ... hang on , that is not funny.... :ntome:

Ugh! You're very correct.

When I used to work at a gym, sometimes families would come in together, especially on the holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas time). Sometimes we'd get HUGE families of morons flooding the gym. It's usually the father that did the talking to me to buy everyone a day pass or whatever it was they wanted, and if he was an idiot, all of them were.

You just don't think of morons being 55 or 60 years old and with families, but they're out there!

My gym closes at 6 today, so naturally I'm leaving work early.

I got my priorities straight.

Automated here. 24/365 and they have great equipment too! Double rack of DBs going to 140, and a Hammer Strength machine for every movement. No running track, nice steam room, fancy change rooms, rock wall or any of that other BS I hate paying for. $300/year!

I love my gym... Holiday hours bum me out though... Even the weekend hours bum me out - usually close at 9PM.

Great equipment though, but like 2k/year.... New York will rape you at every turn.

Ugh, no way TL! Fulton's [my gym] is a straight juice-monkey, meathead gym and I love it. It has more relevant equipment than most Gold's I have been to double its size! It is my home away from home.

Mine has an abundance of hot chicks and homos... I'm one of the beefier guys at the gym - which is pretty bad.

I know of Charles Staley. He's big on strength performance and likes to incorporate strongman style training along with Olympic lifts, but I don't know much else about him.

Okay. Do you want to e-mail me at my work address? We recently did some PRIME-specific trials involving Staley himself and a few of his trainees. Rather interesting!
