surgery estimate?

Hey guys,
I have recently been to the doctor and found out I have some scar tissue behind my nipple which I thought at first was gyno. He said it probably got there during puberty. I was just wondering if any of you have any estimates on how much it would cost to get it removed? My doctor said he didn't know and I figured I would see what you guys think before calling all over the place and all that. Thanks
 
i had a friend get this done along time ago and if i remember correctly it was 3500 but his insurance covered it all...if u could make a good argument for insurance to pay im sure they would...hope everything goes well

Not to mention that all the estimates from plastic surgeons' will be different......
 
How did your friend get the insurance to cover it? I thought it was a plastic surgery kinda thing and that they didn't cover that kind of stuff?

You're right.......This is an elective type of procedure. Expect to pay out of pocket for it.

yea he was VERY VERY lucky...yeah dont expect insurance to cover this but u could ask...i would say anywhere from 3500-5500...it shouldnt be more than that and if it is he is crazy...:fool2:
 
As an Insurance Agent myself, I will tell you this it would be easier to get this done if you have a group policy through your employer than on an individual basis.
Group policies are more apt to cover things like this. Also it can help if your Dr. says it is a needed surgery and not a "elective" one.
If you have pain or it can lead to more expensive procedures you have a case to have it covered. PM me and let me know how you are covered and I can give you a better answer on how willing that company may be to this.
 
Scar tissue pressing on nerves could hurt. As well as the need for a biopsy? I would want to know why you have scar tissue there anyway.

If doc thinks its from puberty, and you can make an assertive claim that it is affecting you physically and mentally insurance should cover it.

Thats what I was thinking, tell them that it is causing you pain.
 
well theres no doubt its affecting me mentally and physically. it sucks to bust your ass in the gym and not want to take your shirt off at the beach and show off your hard work. i cant believe something so trivial can have such an effect on a person. we're just human i guess. thanks for all the responses guys, appreciate it
 
I don't know if this applies, but I had some gyno removed a little while ago and my doctor told me that sometimes scar tissuse can build up where the gyno was removed and that it may be remedied by cortisone injections. Maybe try asking about cortisone injections to remove the scar tissue.

Ya, I have had cortisone shots in my foot do to pain form scar and bone spurs, help out allot!
 
You could check with your DR and see, it would be worth it if it did. As well as save money and maybe a little pain. PM Trauma and ask him, he is my medical guru :)
 
well if cortisone "dissolves" scar tissue wouldn't it get rid of it? what do you mean it will subside it? it has been there since a couple years ago..

You are correct sir. Corticoid therapy will blunt the inflammatory response limiting issues like that. However, once scar tissue is built up it's tough to treat.

An example that i could use is someone that has knee replacement surgery. If they don't aggressively rehab that knee and work at regaining adequate ROM, scar tissue can build up limiting the degree of function of that knee due. Surgery is often needed to remove scar tissue followed by yet again intense rehab session.

While this isn't all that similar to his issue the concept is the same. Anytime there is injury to surrounding tissue scar tissue development can result. The degree depends on many factors.

The bottom line is he needs to get in to see either his PMD for a referral or see a plastic surgeon to have an informed medical evaluation with the appropriate options presented to him.

He is that dude with the trench coat behind that alley next to the market, you know the one with no lights? Very good surgeon, as long as he has had his meds.

According to Dave Palumbo and MD.com this guys the best...does most of the pros gyno surgeries

He starts at like $3800
 
nah medicare doesnt cover all of it. the procedure is costing me 4100 and medicare will reimburse 600 and that is the cheapest i could find. some places where over 5000
