Concerns about the site security

  1. Concerns about the site security

I keep getting a Not Secure warning everytime I visit the site. Looks like there's no https for the forum. Which secures the data from someone computer to this site which could allow anyone to get man in the middle hacked. Can the admins fix this? It's something most sites have upgraded to years ago.

That's exactly what it means. https puts an encryption lock on a website and reduces of chance of hackers from redirecting you to an identical looking site while taking all your data and private messages. It also prevents your ISP from looking at everything you're saying and doing on any given site. It's why google, fb, and most sites have made the upgrade to protect their users.

Did your opinion change? You deleted your post. I always do but in this day and age I think every site should upgrade and secure their site with https. It's free so not sure why there's any reason not to do it.

No. Why say that? Using a VPN protects you no matter where you are. They also get in the way quite often, and interfere with cellular antennas. I have first hand knowlege of it happening numerous times on cell phones. I'm saying, if you are worried, run a VPN.

I deleted the response because I figured I didn't want to get into it too deep but we can chat on it.
I ran a test as well. Kind of funny really. I don't think SSL is free is it? A certificate is $10 but Server Side Protection is a service with a fee.

Implementing and enforcing strict rules for discussion protects them and us all.
On the side of having a free and open discussion on the name-sake topics that is.

It would be interesting to do a deeper pentest on the server and network.

Many sites and services offer free ones. I think cloudflare is best. https://www.cloudflare.com/ssl/

I'm naturally concerned as this is the 21st century. Encryption is no different than any kind of lock. If you lock your doors, car, work, gun case, then you should do the same with your digital stuff like smartphones, computer, and website. Why wouldn't you take any reasonable step to secure and protect yourself. Unlike your home or car door you may never even tell if someone hacked into your digital stuff but it's probably already have happened to you at least once without your knowledge. Could be a harmless as your isp url hijacking you to you a signup page for a survey or darker like getting all your saved passcode and cc.

SSL is offered but not forced. We will probably force all URLs on the site secure at some point. Just use https:// in your bookmarked url.

I see it's now forced. Thank you for this you've earned my respect.
