We're also getting the heat & humidity here in the northeast. 94 yesterday, 93 today and it stormed something crazy last night too. So it's just like walking out into a steam room.

the past week we went from hot sun, to warm rain for a couple days, which the plants needed. then wind, which blew the plants dry, before we came back to hot direct sun. which means less scorching most likely on the plants. I thought that was really interesting and like a perfectly planned out mother nature event.

It’s been raining daily here to where you couldn’t mow - everyone’s grass is jungle mode. Today is dry & sunny before more rain this weekend though, so today’s mowing day for sure!

haha yeah thats the worst, april/may can be a challenging yard time out here...
I've switched over to mulching with a slightly longer yard this year. so it's staying much greener which is nice, and typically its only emptying one bag instead of like 6-8 lol.

Looking forward to seeing it! This is my favorite time of year tbh, everything growing in thick and early sunrises are the best.
 
Man, we are on the every other week mow plan and this last two weeks with rain, then sun, then rain, then sun, and now rain again my yard is almost a foot tall. They should be out this week but dang it... I kind of miss owning my own mower when it gets long like this.

always a catch 22 when you have a service like that. When our guy comes out occasionally I always think I won't appreciate it as much as doing it myself, but then I get home and the place looks beautiful and I really enjoy it. before the inflation period I had setup a deal with him to do our property every other week (with my son doing the alternating weeks as part of his chores) but we started cutting back a few years ago. now days I typically only have him come out once in the spring and fall to help with a big clean up.

Always mulch brother; you’re throwing away a perfect combination of everything your grass needs if you bag! Saves you effort and promotes longevity for the inevitable drought times.

its so true. I had a hard time staying on top of it well enough in the past to be able to mulch without giant clumps of grass all over the yard, but with a fresh blade, little bit longer grass, and staying on top of it the grass is definitely greener this year!

I just found out recently some people give their clippings to their chickens too. even though we are largely anti-chemical I did bite the bullet and do a single weed and feed this year to nip a few dandelions and clover in the bud so I won't be feeding that grass to the chickens I eat lol

We mow our grass within every 10 days, whether it needs it or not 😝

I always mulch, always run max deck height, and always hit with weed & feed annually. Going to do a second round of that soon actually, because weeds were worse this year & need to play catchup.

Plus we had a long draught last summer, and the feed aspect prior helps nourish it to better handle the inevitable long brown dormant period it will be faced with.

IL is a place where if you don’t like the weather, just wait a day or two.

I think we're in for a drought again. Temps are mild, but no rain in sight. the rain we did get, was perfectly timed between hot periods so everything grew like crazy. When I first met my wife this yard had no grass and was like the sahara desert lol. Neighbors and kids gave me a hard time for how much work I put into making a green yard, but a green yard does help keep the ambient temp down a bit!

I've gotten better with watering over the years too. Everyone seems to have contradictory opinions on that. Some people seem to think one heavy watering a week is good, deeper roots potentially, but I have found that a light daily watering early in the morning like 4am keeps my grass green all summer for 1/3 of the water bill. Could have something to do with our soil type or grass type, I'm not sure. But I know we are largely a big clay buff, which is why the geo engineers allow houses to be built so close to the cliffs / banks in our area. Maybe it just doesn't absorb and hold water as well as some other soil types.

Man I’m just not having enough hours in the day. After work try to get things done or have something to work on and then lift and man it’s 10 already 😂

All weekend I battled this old girl, she been sitting for so long the cylinder seals dry rotted so I need to tear it apart and rebuild them. We had 10 acres of oats that I cut and needed to round bale. Luckily a neighbor is going to swing by and get it for me.
