You know the Alpha when he walks into the room. Regardless of his stature, he stands head and shoulders over all others. The ultimate Alpha is who we all strive to be ... yet never achieve. Alpha is a term that is constantly redefining itself. With every extra pound we push in the gym, every person we cross paths with, every barrier we break through, the Alpha bar is set a little higher.

Being the alpha means being in control of and knowing yourself. It's being able to check your ego at the door and having enough confidence that the presence or judgment of others doesn't influence you. There are plenty of guys out there that are alphas; heck, most of the guys in the gym are, at least to some extent. However, the big difference here is that one little word -- the alpha. That one word creates an entirely different definition. It separates one from many and sets him apart. With that comes a strong mental component. All alphas have the drive and the aggression; the strength and the confidence. The alpha operates on a higher level; an intellectual level that allows him not only exhibit the aforementioned traits, but a sense of calm and collection that makes other alphas uncomfortable because they can't understand it. He has something they can't define and that doesn't exist in their life, so they judge it; they belittle it. The alpha operates with all of the same aggression, passion, drive and strength; but he doesn't have to show it off. He knows it's there; that he possesses it. He can do all of the same things without drawing the attention that others want. His calling is a higher calling; a truer calling. That is how I define the alpha.

The alpha is the person who is willing, and capable, of doing what others are afraid to do. He doesn't look for gratification and does not expect compensation foe the work he has already done. Its not because he's the biggest, or strongest, but because he will do what the other's will not. He's willing to risk his life so that others may live theirs to the fullest. He stays up all night watching over everyone he is in charge of so that they may be rested. His legacy stems from 100's of years of selfless service and men laying down their lives so that others may come along to fill those shoes. My father was an alpha, he served as a part of the 5th special forces group in Vietnam. Now I try to fill those shoes as a member of the 82nd airborne division as an infantryman.

To me being alpha male is having the will to never give up and knowing that many look up to you. Being a provider and an encourager to others and respected by many. An alpha doesn’t let jealousy or envy bothers them but lets it fuel him to be better then everybody around them. An Alpha male is a loyal husband, a great father and a teacher of influence.

when i hear alpha. it's the mentality you need to have when your competing, you step on the mat with disdain towards your opponent. You have 7 minutes to prove it, play with him like a rag doll, control him like a puppet. and when i choose, i submit, usually with a choke.

Alpha to me means the ability to motivate and dominate. To become a leader when no one else want's to.

Alpha = Time to rape the weights in the gym and make everyone bow down to you!

At one point in life I had my career handed to me in taking over the family car dealership, Body I wanted and lifting regularly,going to school for free with a scholarship. Was going to be best man at my best friends wedding.
Then LIFE hit hard within a 6 month period
The economy crashed, we lost our business, house, cars, PRIDE.
Got in a car accident that hospitalized me so i couldn't lift.
Lost my scholarship because I let everything affect my schooling.
Didn't even attend my ex best friends wedding

I dont take things for granted anymore.I'm much more appreciative for the things I have. I'm doing better in school than I was before.I am pursuing a career I love not one that'll just give me more money. Best of all I'm lifting again consistently for 3 years.

Alpha is the ability to get knocked out your ass repeatedly and keep getting up coming back for more, and becoming a better man from the hardship and sorrow.

Alpha in regards to pack animals
"In social animals, the alpha is the individual in the community with the highest rank. My thoughts on Alpha
So many times in our culture, especially in our current age, a word takes on a meaning that was never intended for it. While characteristics and traits may be similar to the origin of the word, our infatuation with association makes the true meaning become askew. These days if you search for "alpha male" online you'll be bombarded with what society and culture would like for you to believe the term means, however society is incorrect. While an alpha is by definition the beginning, and hence "leader of the pack", that does not necessarily mean that it should be the perfect physical specimen. Alpha is a mentality. Alpha is a belief that you are the one that other's should be able to turn to when times get rough, that you are the one that will see to the safety of those around you. When one truly exhibits the characteristics of an alpha, they do not have to gain followers, nor do they have to prove their place to others. Alphas do not have to walk around looking for a way to prove they are alpha, it's already apparent to others that they are. But if you challenge that alpha, you will be put in your place. To truly be "alpha", is to be admired for your undying character and drive to always be the best at everything you do. There is a swagger that comes with being an alpha, but it is not a forced, purposeful swagger; it is simply something that radiates from every fiber of your being without conscious thought. To compare in terms of pop culture reference: Alpha is Rocky Balboa, alpha is Rudy, alpha is the hobbits in Lord of the Rings. It is that belief that although you may not have what others have, you will never give up on your fight. You will be a champion. You will never quit, never back down, never submit to the adversities that stand in your way; because at the end of the day you are not simply fighting for yourself, you are fighting to make sure that you protect and preserve all that is important to you.

Alpha is something that can't be bought, learned, or copied. It is something that can't simply be explained with words. Alpha is something that few men are blessed with, and all others spend their lives trying to attain. Alpha is having complete superiority over all others, and knowing that nobody on earth can compete with you in any way!
