Time to CONQU3R with Olympus Labs!

Those squats and pulls.... Holy...

Man was I being on your log! You're dreading kicking butt and looking great too! Congratulations on your anniversary! Enjoy your date! :)

Thanks! It was a really nice time - went up along the river road north of here & ate some fish, followed it up with a long, winding drive through the state park there (weather was absolutely perfect, 70s, sunset, light filtering through the forest) and had some ice cream near the docks before driving back down at sunset along the river. Stopped for coffee on the way back under a perfect summer night sky.

Those squats and pulls.... Holy...

"It's all gear & drugs ;) " - Donnie Thompson, world record squatter of 1,260lbs

Day 24

Free Fun Day

Reverse Light Band Decline JM Press 139x8, 99x20, 119x18, 15, 139x10, 159x3 (all weights not factoring band tension from top of rack)
Smith Widegrip Rows (Squeeze at top) 25/side x20, 35x15, 45x15, 55x12
Smith Incline Press 35/side x15, 60x15, 70x14, 45x18
Close-grip Low Rows 140x20, 160x16, 15
ss w/ Barbell Curls 45x18, 12, 10, 15
Kettlebell Swings 45x35-40 reps (lost count for a min)

Buddy txt me asking if I wanted to lift at 1, & it was a random free day for him too so we just had fun with it and worked the muscles. Dynamic Lower is on tap for tomorrow, so didn't want to do any legs or core stuff really. Turns out I actually really like KB swings every time I do them - I hate most core exercises, but they're always fun.

Darn Crossfit sorcery, probably :smileeek:

Took some old NO Explode at work yesterday afternoon for giggles, & lemme tell ya - Conqu3r is just such a better preWO. For the same price or less, it offers a lot more bang. Sorry BSN, but if you're gonna plunk down some bucks on a shiny new tub of PreWO, I'd tell anyone to pick Conqu3r before trying the newest NO Ex iteration. It's such a great preWO, & it never makes me feel bad. Still only using 1 scoop as directed, 1 rounded on Max Effort Lower days lol

Sounds pretty perfect to me!! Glad you enjoyed it! Love the fun lift day! Those can be some of the best wo's!

Day 25

Dynamic Lower tonight

Squat to Box 2" below Parallel w/ Light Band 45x5, 5 135x5, 185x2, 225x2, 275x2x10 sets (short rests)
Beltless Squat w/ Reverse Light Band 385x2x2
Deficit Deadlift 135x10, 225x10, 315x5, 365x5, 385x5, 405x5, 425x5

Seated Leg Curl 110x12, 130x12, 12, 150x12
Unilateral Deadlift 20sx10 (per side), 10, 30sx10, 35sx10
Light Band Pulldown Crunches 25x4 sets

Played w/ the unilateral deads tonight for the first time tonight....holy balance issues, batman. They were a fun way to work my core & get some blood through my hams/low back, so I'll be using them more often & trying to build my balance/endurance. Kind of wanted to go higher on the deficit pulls, but it was all I had to pull 425x5 after all the previous work.

Sounds pretty perfect to me!! Glad you enjoyed it! Love the fun lift day! Those can be some of the best wo's!

It's important to enjoy your training if you're gonna stick with it longterm, I think. I try to force myself to work what I need & do what I hate, so I can keep growing & get stronger. But there needs to be fun days or exercises that scratch that sweet tooth, if you will.

I totally agree! I think that's why I enjoy writing my own routines so much because I can switch things up a lot more- throw in different challenges! I like to have fun training! (Not the average definition of fun but I'm sure you know what I mean! Lol)

It's funny in a sense, the thing I like about the Meadows routines are how they are written up. Feels like he is sitting on the bench beside me...

Yeah he does a really good job including all of the details! I really like that!!

Hey Hyde, where did you come up with your programming bro? It's solid man, nice work.

I used to love making my weekly routines because of the changes. I'd change things up all the time. But, Meadows just does it differently. Changing rep schemes, negative time, banded or not, etc etc.

Couldn't agree more Simon. I feel like I KNOW John Meadows at this point. At least, his expectations.

Hey Hyde, where did you come up with your programming bro? It's solid man, nice work.

Thank you, sir. I love singles, so fell back into a Westside split - 2 Max Effort days & 2 Dynamic days/wk. Except when I was "using it" before I failed to incorporate a conjugate approach (constantly rotating variants of the max effort exercise) or bands on dynamic days. So it was more like me maxing on bench every week, continuing to stall out, & doing speedwork with straight weight (which did help some, but beats me up a bit harder than the banded work does). I've wised up, & consequently the programming is MUCH more challenging, & I think I'm already seeing some progress.

Actually, I've been doing 5x5 on bench & ME only every other week, after all the 5x5 work, but I've been feeling like I need more volume on bench so I'm prioritizing it. Not so on squat, so that's being done ME every wednesday as programmed.

So basically a Westside Conjugate except 5x5 on heavy bench day & ME bench-variant only every other wk. As for accessories, I just try to pick work that hits things I need to address. A well-rounded base is the best way to keep getting stronger.

You guys will dig this, then - guy that goes to my gym, he competed in Super Heavyweigh 35+t at the Pittsburgh Masters Nationals last friday night. Came in at 250, 6'2". He said when they called him out they had him between John Anderson (1st place, won his Pro Card) & John Meadows (who took 2nd), so he knew he was f*cked lol. Said Meadows is his weight at like 5'8". He took 11th out of 20 :(

He looks incredible, guy from my gym, arms are like vein-infused cannons. Very desirable physique, really. But John Meadows was just straight up bigger.

Said after talking w/ Meadows, Meadows sounded like he doesn't wanna keep competing much longer. He's been doing this over 20 years after all, & he also said Meadows mentioned that he can give great advice that will work for people, but he just doesn't follow it himself. He's a great trainer, basically, but John is kind of lazy on his own, & doesn't have the fire to go that extra distance anymore that he knows would work if he applied it to himself.

Thought that was really interesting.

Day 26

Tonight

Bench 45x5, 95x5, 135x5, 185x5, 230x5x5
Widegrip Pulldowns 110x15, 130x15, 15, 150x15
Peckdeck Flys 20, 15, 15, 12, 10
Tri Extensions 40x20, 50x12, 12, 10 ds 30x10
HS Mid Rows 2pps x15, 15, 15

Left elbow/bicep was really acting up tonight, so that kept me from pressing anymore. It is what it is, but got the important stuff done.

I fell into the same problems back in the day man, for sure. Get really good results one week with a PR and go to do the same next week, and so on. I was getting sick a lot etc and just straight up burnt. I'm glad to see you're having such good progress man

That's crazy! I'm 5'8" I feel too big at 190 let alone 250 dude, unreal. They have to be so uncomfortable. Meadows is the man though I really dig his methodology as well

Thy is interesting.

I guess just like with anything else, you get burnt out living and working one particular thing day-in and day-out.

You can appreciate this Hyde. My brothers wife won the her weight class (114lb) in the show-me state powerlifting event. Only a push-pull but still. First meet, two gold medals 8)

B-100
Dead- 225

She was good for 15+lbs on her dead but both bench and deads were pr's for her.

When are you going after another event bro?

That's awesome!!! 114lbs is TINY!! Tiny and fierce!! Love it!

That is a cool story. Can only image stepping on stage and being put between those two.

Day 27

Off-day. Feeling very beat up, & extremely glad for the rest. Supposed to be going to this strength/conditioning facility tomorrow night w/ a buddy from work; he used to compete in single-ply & has been itching to find a dedicated gym since he moved out here from Kansas. Not sure where the night will go, but it's ME lower tomorrow - the scariest & best day of the week!

My thoughts exactly.

Pretty good numbers for a 114 - most of the gals I know that can bench 100 or more are at least 130s.

Oh, and to answer your question, Tyga - October 11th!! Just checked the listings & the meet I was waiting for finally popped up: back to Springfield, MO, same venue & organizer as the one I did in my Ironflex Log :)

Nice! That's a day after my birthday. May have to talk the wifey Into going to Springfield (well Nixa, just outside of Springfield) that weekend. I love being in that city bro, it's awesome.

I'll come out and support!

That would be badazz, man! I'll have to wait til gf gets off work (she's a teacher, so she can't just take random days off during the school year) to leave stl for springfield, so just like the first time I'll be showing up around 8:30pm & just weighing in the morning right before I compete, lifting wherever I fall. I'll be in Open, so I won't be competitive regardless - no reason to sacrifice PRs to get into a lighter class. We'll prob stay the night saturday this time though, so we can enjoy the evening like we did in KC.

Nope :( Last time we were there was my first trip to it, & the only thing I got to see was my hotel across from the expo center & the lil italian place we went to dinner at before we jumped back in the car & raced back to STL. Didn't even get to hit the giant Bass Pro!

Day 28

They added in to that big bish! Ya bro, were going to have to chill that day! Plan on it!

Sounds great. Gf just informed me that the choir she's joining has a concert that friday or the week before - hopefully we'll find out this week for sure when it is so we can plan better. I'd really hate to not have her there with me. If it is, I can go to her rehearsal the thursday before, but there's no rehearsal for the meet lol. Just signed up tonight for the comp though :)

Tonight I flat out didn't get all my work done I planned - was educating some youths, trying to steer them away from PEDs. Seemed like it was more important than the last 2 exercises I wanted to do. Hope I made a difference. 17 year olds don't need to be messing with exogenous hormones.

ME Lower

Sumo 135x10, 5, 225x8, 315x5
from 4" blocks 365x5, added belt for 415x1, 435x1, 455x1, 475x1, 495x1, 515xBOMB
SSB (beltless) 65x10, 5, 155x5
5-Sec Pause in Hole 225x5, 5
Legpress 5pps x15, 6x15, 15, 15

Really wanted to get some work on the reverse hyper machine & do some hanging leg raises, but such is life. Floating & gf's fam reunion this weekend, so prob done lifting til Monday.

Way to go helping those kids out! That's awesome! Very nice of you! You even got in a good session too! Have fun on your float trip!! That will be so much fun!!

Agree with Kat. I have a 17 yo stepson that is a defensive lineman for a state champion football team. He and I have talks about this. These compounds are flowing like water in schools. Adderal for "mind focus" and PHs for the body. It's no wonder our kids are "strange"!!

So much influence on kids these days to take the easy way, no matter the permanent negative results.

Hopefully they listened to you.

Strong pulls Hyde!

Thank you everyone! I'm obviously not opposed to using the drugs, but it's a very serious decision with permanent & lasting effects - impossible to say how hard they impact you, but nobody will argue that steroids will extend your life, because we know they won't. Nothing that taxes the organs will. Life-altering decisions shouldn't be made by teenagers - they have plenty on their plates just focusing on education choices & career paths, let alone uneducated manipulation of hormone levels that affect every aspect of their existence.

And surprisingly enough, my legs are quite sore today, especially my quads - awesome, because they generally don't get much love in my programming by its nature.

Day 29

Had more time this evening than I expected & was feeling really good, so went in quite late to crush Dynamic Upper! Because it was so late I didn't want to take Conqu3r at 8pm, so I used a 1 scoop sample of Muscle Pharm's Assault - just enough to make a difference but won't keep me up late.

Incline Bench w/ Light Band 45x5, 95x5, 143x3x4 sets, 148x5 sets
Reverse Grip Bbell Tri Extensions 45x6, 65x6, 75x5
Rolling Db Extensions 10s x15, 20x15, 25x15, 30x11, 12
Underhand Pulldowns 120x15, 140x15, 15, 10, 10
Seated Lateral Raises 20s x15, 20x15, 25x10
Preacher Db Curls 30s x10, 25x12, 12

Used a couple tubs of Assault in my day I picked up on great sales, & if you've never used Assault lemme tell you that it's mediocre at best, even at like 3 scoops (and terribly overpriced). Had a great session tonight, but it was NOT due to the Assault. Kept getting distracted, bet I talked for 30 min to various people before starting my workout.

When I use Conqu3r, by the time I'm at the gym I'm ready to rip the doors off the place. Also, pace tonight was prob faster than usual, yet WAY less sweat than on Conqu3r. Stuff makes me sweat like it's going out of style, but I don't mind at all strangely.

Leaving in the morning to go camping, & skipping Dynamic Lower this week.

As of Monday, I'll be 11 wks out. That gives me all of next week to keep doing whatever I like, & then I'll have to decide what I'm going to prep with. Whatever I do, it will be lifting for 9 wks then a deload wk 10 (wk of comp, which is on saturday Oct 11th).

Cube Method, 5/3/1, or staying w/ Westside Conjugate (sans chains) are all serious options, but leaning on staying w/ the Conjugate or Cubing it again.

Have a good time camping! We planned on going this weekend and my mother-n-law ended up in the hospital. So I guess it's honey do's for me. If I get to feeling better that is :(

Assault was one of the first pwo's I used. At the time, I really liked it. I haven't tried it in a few years, since I got more serious though. I'm sure with the stim tolerance that I have now, it would be like drinking kool-aid. Lol Have fun on your trip!

I'm pitching a tent as we speak.

I lol'd. When my gf asked what was so funny & I read Wasme's post, then yours, she almost spit up her drink.

Should be a blast. And I hear you, exactly why I used the 1 scoop sample. Like a little coffee, really.

Day 34

Off day today

Trip went really well, lot of fun to be out in the water & the sun!

Yesterday was ME Upper

Reverse Mini-Band Bench 45x5, 5, 95x5, 135x5, 185x5, 225x5, 245x5, 265x5, 285x1, 295x1, 305x1
Incline Bench 185x5, 195x5, 205x4
Tate Presses 15s x15, 30x12, 35x12, 40x10
Seated V-bar Low Rows 175x8, 200x8, 8, 212.5x7, 225x6
Seated Rear Delt Raises 25s x15, 30x14, 12, 20x9
-ss w/ Hammer Curls 30s x12, 35x12, 40x12, 45x10

First time trying the Minis benching reverse-banded - if I stay Westside for my meet prep, this is probably one of the ME upper exercises I'll rotate, along with Floorpresses & CGBP w/ Slingshot. The minis were AWESOME. Strong enough to inspire a ton of confidence, but light enough to keep the weights more realistic. Doing these in lieu of chains. Bet they took an average of 30-40lbs off, compared to what I could handle with straight weight.

I'm so unsure about what I'm going to do for my meet, program-wise. Westside is more for geared lifters, but....I'm really enjoying it. Might just say screw it & keep with it.

I'm getting excite to try the reverse bands...

Strong looking session Hyde.

Nice on the reverse bands. They really are effective.

"Thanked" :)

I'm getting excite to try the reverse bands...

Strong looking session Hyde.

Thanks! Set it up exactly like that pic of Breezy's works very well choked from the top of the rack. My advice is grab someone to give you a liftoff for the heavy sets though; the bands make the bar want to drift when you try to unrack it.

Day 36

Yesterday checked out a local powerlifting gym w/ a buddy from work who used to compete single ply. Idk if it was just a really off day for me, or the combo of gear & using a monolift threw me off, or what, but I couldn't lift for jack. It was awful. Gym was really cool, but it closes at 7 so we didn't have time for any accessories :( Felt tired but like I didn't even get my muscles worked there was so much gear/so low volume.

Yesterday

Squat (all out of monolift)
45x5, 5
135x5
225x5
315x5
365x1
add singleply suit & belt
405x1 (got hung up on the towstraps at bottom & straight good morning'd it up)
425x1 (had to have help out of the hole, no joke)
add lightly wrapped knee wraps
385x5, 5

I hate lifting in gear. It was fun to try it, but I'm so glad I compete raw. I don't even want to use knee wraps til I can do 500 raw, just a belt.

Tonight

Speed Incline Bench w/ Light Band 45x5, 95x5, 115x5, 160x3x9 sets (30 sec rests)
Snatchgrip Deads from 2" Blocks w/ Mini Bands 135x10, 225x10, 295x8, 345x6, 365x4 (60lbs tension at top?)
Deadlift w/ Light Bands 135x10, 225x10, 10 (90lbs tension at top?)
-all pulls ss w/ Strict OHP 90x10, 119x10, 110x10, 10, 135x9, 8, 8

I really really like Conqu3r. I start training for my meet this monday. Think I'm going to do the Cube Kingpin program. Might put up a review on this product before I finish this tub, as I more or less know where I stand on it by now. It's legit stuff.

The only thing you consider as gear is the suit, right?

Hate you didn't enjoy and feel good about your lift yesterday! Somedays things just don't happen right! You're definitely crazy strong though!! Next time will be better! :)

The only thing you consider as gear is the suit, right?

Right. The 3 breakdowns are Raw, Single-ply, & Multi-ply in my federation (USPA). Additionally, Raw is split between Modern Raw & Classic Raw, which literally might as well be called Knee Sleeves/Knee Wraps. But besides those, a belt & wrist wraps are the only supportive geared allowed, as those are first & foremost for safety. Single-ply is super-tight, thin neoprene-coated shirts for bench & singlets for squatting & pulling, & Multi-ply is anything goes, including multi-layer briefs under the suits even. Talk about wearing a suit of armor - these are some multiply briefs (not even a full suit):

Invalid Link Removed

Note how they stand up on their own. That would be bananas for squatting/pulling sumo!

If I'm not mistaken some Feds consider knee wraps gear. I think his fed only allows sleeves and a belt.

Correct; we have a class for guys who want to use knee wraps. It's way more popular than knee sleeves only, actually.

Hate you didn't enjoy and feel good about your lift yesterday! Somedays things just don't happen right! You're definitely crazy strong though!! Next time will be better! :)

Thanks Kat :)
