Those squats and pulls.... Holy...
Thanks! It was a really nice time - went up along the river road north of here & ate some fish, followed it up with a long, winding drive through the state park there (weather was absolutely perfect, 70s, sunset, light filtering through the forest) and had some ice cream near the docks before driving back down at sunset along the river. Stopped for coffee on the way back under a perfect summer night sky.
Sounds pretty perfect to me!! Glad you enjoyed it! Love the fun lift day! Those can be some of the best wo's!
It's important to enjoy your training if you're gonna stick with it longterm, I think. I try to force myself to work what I need & do what I hate, so I can keep growing & get stronger. But there needs to be fun days or exercises that scratch that sweet tooth, if you will.
I totally agree! I think that's why I enjoy writing my own routines so much because I can switch things up a lot more- throw in different challenges! I like to have fun training! (Not the average definition of fun but I'm sure you know what I mean! Lol)
It's funny in a sense, the thing I like about the Meadows routines are how they are written up. Feels like he is sitting on the bench beside me...

Hey Hyde, where did you come up with your programming bro? It's solid man, nice work.
I used to love making my weekly routines because of the changes. I'd change things up all the time. But, Meadows just does it differently. Changing rep schemes, negative time, banded or not, etc etc.
Couldn't agree more Simon. I feel like I KNOW John Meadows at this point. At least, his expectations.
I fell into the same problems back in the day man, for sure. Get really good results one week with a PR and go to do the same next week, and so on. I was getting sick a lot etc and just straight up burnt. I'm glad to see you're having such good progress manThank you, sir. I love singles, so fell back into a Westside split - 2 Max Effort days & 2 Dynamic days/wk. Except when I was "using it" before I failed to incorporate a conjugate approach (constantly rotating variants of the max effort exercise) or bands on dynamic days. So it was more like me maxing on bench every week, continuing to stall out, & doing speedwork with straight weight (which did help some, but beats me up a bit harder than the banded work does). I've wised up, & consequently the programming is MUCH more challenging, & I think I'm already seeing some progress.
Actually, I've been doing 5x5 on bench & ME only every other week, after all the 5x5 work, but I've been feeling like I need more volume on bench so I'm prioritizing it. Not so on squat, so that's being done ME every wednesday as programmed.
So basically a Westside Conjugate except 5x5 on heavy bench day & ME bench-variant only every other wk. As for accessories, I just try to pick work that hits things I need to address. A well-rounded base is the best way to keep getting stronger.
That's crazy! I'm 5'8" I feel too big at 190 let alone 250 dude, unreal. They have to be so uncomfortable. Meadows is the man though I really dig his methodology as wellYou guys will dig this, then - guy that goes to my gym, he competed in Super Heavyweigh 35+t at the Pittsburgh Masters Nationals last friday night. Came in at 250, 6'2". He said when they called him out they had him between John Anderson (1st place, won his Pro Card) & John Meadows (who took 2nd), so he knew he was f*cked lol. Said Meadows is his weight at like 5'8". He took 11th out of 20
He looks incredible, guy from my gym, arms are like vein-infused cannons. Very desirable physique, really. But John Meadows was just straight up bigger.
Said after talking w/ Meadows, Meadows sounded like he doesn't wanna keep competing much longer. He's been doing this over 20 years after all, & he also said Meadows mentioned that he can give great advice that will work for people, but he just doesn't follow it himself. He's a great trainer, basically, but John is kind of lazy on his own, & doesn't have the fire to go that extra distance anymore that he knows would work if he applied it to himself.
Thought that was really interesting.

You can appreciate this Hyde. My brothers wife won the her weight class (114lb) in the show-me state powerlifting event. Only a push-pull but still. First meet, two gold medals 8) B-100 Dead- 225 She was good for 15+lbs on her dead but both bench and deads were pr's for her. When are you going after another event bro?

That is a cool story. Can only image stepping on stage and being put between those two.

Oh, and to answer your question, Tyga - October 11th!! Just checked the listings & the meet I was waiting for finally popped up: back to Springfield, MO, same venue & organizer as the one I did in my Ironflex Log![]()
Nice! That's a day after my birthday. May have to talk the wifey Into going to Springfield (well Nixa, just outside of Springfield) that weekend. I love being in that city bro, it's awesome.
I'll come out and support!
That would be badazz, man! I'll have to wait til gf gets off work (she's a teacher, so she can't just take random days off during the school year) to leave stl for springfield, so just like the first time I'll be showing up around 8:30pm & just weighing in the morning right before I compete, lifting wherever I fall. I'll be in Open, so I won't be competitive regardless - no reason to sacrifice PRs to get into a lighter class. We'll prob stay the night saturday this time though, so we can enjoy the evening like we did in KC.
Ok cool. Hope this pans out, that'd be dope! I don't know I've you've ever been downtown Springfield but I love it lolol
NopeLast time we were there was my first trip to it, & the only thing I got to see was my hotel across from the expo center & the lil italian place we went to dinner at before we jumped back in the car & raced back to STL. Didn't even get to hit the giant Bass Pro!
They added in to that big bish! Ya bro, were going to have to chill that day! Plan on it!
I'm pitching a tent as we speak.
owe eye sea watt ewe did they'reI'm pitching a tent as we speak.

Have a good time camping! We planned on going this weekend and my mother-n-law ended up in the hospital. So I guess it's honey do's for me. If I get to feeling better that is![]()
Assault was one of the first pwo's I used. At the time, I really liked it. I haven't tried it in a few years, since I got more serious though. I'm sure with the stim tolerance that I have now, it would be like drinking kool-aid. Lol Have fun on your trip!
Nice on the reverse bands. They really are effective.
I'm getting excite to try the reverse bands...
Strong looking session Hyde.
The only thing you consider as gear is the suit, right?

If I'm not mistaken some Feds consider knee wraps gear. I think his fed only allows sleeves and a belt.
Hate you didn't enjoy and feel good about your lift yesterday! Somedays things just don't happen right! You're definitely crazy strong though!! Next time will be better!![]()
