Timber's Epi Smash

the only gym nearby that has hammer strength machines has one squat rack, and no deadlift platform, which makes working out pointless. the gym i go to has two squat racks and a dead platform so there's always a free squat rack :) the lack of hammer machines i find irritating though, as it blends a ton of machines into the mix for the casual (i'm not here to lift heavy weights) crowd.

Deadlift platform? You can't just do em on the floor?

No. It was directed to the phrase, "Learn, Teach, Lead." It had nothing to do with him. Hell, most know I will say straight up if it is about someone. In the post, I did direct it at someone (Broodstar/Stallion), because he is a douche bag that has conversations with himself.

Haha, you guys... Iron Lungz is an ******* - just like me... He called out that Stallion f*cker... He's not ragging on you guys at all.

Ok TL, thanks. Did the affects improve much when you bumped to the 800? Was it worth it?

the gym that didn't have a platform won't let you do them on the floor - the exercise is a quick way to get injured. the gym that does have a platform also has the rubber weights, so you can drop the bar with impunity :) 385 is all the rubber weights they got.

I often put off-the-wall comments in my rants just as a joke. It's just my way of not being too serious about it. I am sarcastic in nature; blame looking down a scope for a living on it. I just try to laugh with life. Seeing how it caused so much drama, I removed it.

Iron, I think it was confusion on my part but it was not taken offensively. I, like AZ said, definitely enjoy the ball busting and humor. I think thats why I first looked at Timber's Beatdown log. I appreciate the sarcasm and BS in your rants as I have read a ton of stuff that you have written and respect your knowledge and view points on many different things.

I'm a big boy and am not offended easily, and probably never over this internet. So by all means don't censor yourself. I was plainly confused.

Ah, rubber weights would be great. All our floors are rubberized - so they don't give a f*ck.

What do you mean about getting injured? That's what the b*tch gym says?

drat. i must not have worded that right. i wish my gym DID have the hammer strength ones in place of the standard machines - we have three machines for back workouts, but no hammer strength. i think the standard machines are more curtailed to the "casual lifter" as they don't have to move 45 plates up to their head in order to use the machine.

I gotcha now. I do like the hammers because you can load them with plates. But the plated cable machines aren't bad to throw in. But you are right on with sticking to the heavy compound stuff. FTW!

dude, it was so lame. my membership there lasted a month total - the first time i saw the three man wait for the one squat rack and i canceled my membership. rack deads were the most you could get away with at that place. the only thing i miss are the cardio bunnies and cougars there.

the place i'm at now with the platform, there's a few old timers you have to contest with (60+). it feels like they fell asleep on the machines - no movement for 2-3 minutes at a time. not so much a big deal as there's only a few machines i use. one of the old guys though, i swear is like 55 or so and does standard pullups (not assisted) for sets! i've got him to spot me a few times and he's pretty cool. the only other drawback is the cardio station is upstairs, so you have to go out of your way to see the bunnies - farmer carries up 26 stairs so you don't feel like a total douche :)

Good deal. I'm glad to know you appreciate my humor.
No worries. :D

SF-Ranger, my friend.
But it some regards, yes, I am a Mad Scientist at times. ;)
Iron, I enjoyed the addition, which is why I made my humorous(I thought) reply. I love humor...way to much stress in the world these days.
Are you some kind of mad scientist??

Wrong scope....I'll take that scope anytime. You get any time with a Barrett 50?

.50 M82A1 sitting right next to me in its case. :D
I just fired it this morning at the range.
I also have on hand a 99A1 50 BMG (32'') that is fun to shoot.

I've said it a thousand times here, but no one will ever pry my M4 from my hands. It's the most versatile for the situations downrange that one can equip themselves with.

That 32" is a cannon! The M4 is a much more functional piece... jealous am I Iron. Nice toys they let you play with!!

Ive gotta agree on the M4. Sound distance wise and good CQC.

All our floors are rubberized too, but even if they weren't if they had a problem with me doing deads on them I'd tell them to go **** themselves. I pay good money to use their equipment and workout. Deadlifts are a basic movement that I believe everyone should do. If you're (the gym) not equipped for people doing them, you need to get your **** together.

i fired an AT-4 once, and i will remember that feeling for a very long time. never got to fire the 50 cal though :(

Pretty much... pussies.

I got to fire a Barrett M82A1 at a sniper range before i left for this deployment. Thing rocks. I love the sound.

Anyway, had to take some Advil. My leg is kickin.

Never liked my damn liver anyway.

Speaking of livers.....
Have you guys heard about MuscleTech's Hydroxycut being pulled from the market? All versions. Appears that one dude died already and many others have liver complications from using the products.
They never did say what specific ingredient in it was harming the livers though. :dunno:

Yeah, I saw that **** on the news last night. Looking over the ingredient list, I'm a little baffled as to what exactly it is that's causing the problem.

One more reason to hate MuscleTech!

The article I read stated that the questioned ingredient was Hydroxycitric acid. It also said that a 19 yr old died from using it. Others developed jaundice and one had to have a transplant.

Yep, stock up while you can on anything!

especially MuscleTech products :) i'm a little embarassed by the FDA's approach here. to pull a product after one death in 2007 is almost silly.

i mean one death, in 3 years, millions of product sold, you're as likely to be struck by lightning as have a serious complication from this. what a sad day for the supplement industry where we take an isolated case and use it to ban a product that has changed formulations 7 times. the version that killed the person in 2007 isn't even on the market anymore.

oxycontin killed 716 people just in florida for the year 2005, but i guess regulating pharmaceuticals are too difficult for the FDA. the only regulation they made in regards to oxy was to ban the 160mg pills, but your doctor can still prescribe you 2x80's every 6 hours, which IMO should have been illegal as well. guess the FDA has bigger fish to fry - like supplement companies that kill one person every 3 years :)

Hydroxycitric acid is derived from a tropical fruit, which can deactivate liver enzymes.

What benefits would be gained by using this in a weight loss supplement?

It's main mechanisms of action have to do with liver enzymes, insulin and glucose. Basically the liver uses its enzymes to process and clear foreign materials(drugs, toxins). The acid is supposed to slow glucose uptake and has characteristics of steady insulin rates. I dont remember seeing any clinical evidence that suggested fat suppresion in humans, only rats.

I bet a rat could lose weight if it drank water, honestly.

The main idea of having this ingredient is to have some more of the herbal ingredients pass through unaffected to do "their job".

The current formulations are known to have several ingredients not listed on the label; muscletech is "covered" due to the privacy nature of the "Proprietary blend".

So they are trying to blunt the livers effectiveness on some of the other herbals? I guess it was a little too effective!

Tying to make the ingredients pass through the liver so it could be better distributed. At least 1 person's body didnt take that too kindly.

True but, we don't know what kind of doses these people were consuming or what physical condition they were in.

This is true. There's one site that is actually doing something about testing supplements for containments and other non-listed ingredients. Basically, we take donations from people to support the testing process, then people can pay (low fee) to view the final essay (CoA).

See, this is unknown. These values can be important in pin-pointing the exact cause of the liver damage. If someone is predisposed, or have an ailment that isn't known, anything can stress that more and cause irreversible sides, and in some cases, death. I wouldn't freak out just yet. (Not directed at you - I'm seeing a lot of people freaking out about this - Generalized statement)

Yea, there shouldnt be too much to be worried about NOW.

If there were to be more cases, then maybe. That case isnt recent either

"If I take half the bottle now before bed, i'll lose 10 lbs overnight."

lol. A math whiz that doesn't quite understand supplements.

"So if this guy lost 30lbs in 30 days with 30 doses...I'll lose 30lbs in one night with the entire bottle!!!...Math, FTW!"

I know we shouldn't freak out but, it does focus alot of scrutiny on the supplement industry. The Government will feel the need to protect us from ourselves again.

not including if they were taking hydroxycut and green tea extract and caffeine to further out the leaning process. i mean an isolated incident with no knowledge of any other supplements used, alcohol consumption, meds, its impossible to pinpoint one product and blame it for the overall cause.

we're an easy target because we hide behind "proprietary blend", but again, the FDA IMO didn't think this one through.

So that's what causes people to lose that weight then. They get so fukkin sick from the liver problems, that they can't eat!!!

What a trip!! And the government keeps on preaching to us the evils of steroids!!! :soapbox:

Give me a break!! :rant2:
