So he opened the top, transferred, and then closed it up? It can handle air contact and so the only thing touching it is the needle, if the exposure time was short and nothing blew into it, it should be fine. Air contact is OK. But if it was open for any extended period of time or under any conditions where something solid could fall in, that's no good.
Anyway in the future obviously you need to transfer all of that gear at once. And do it without opening the container. What you do is lay the container on its side and jab a needle through and suck out the contents. Assuming the container is plastic but wtf else would it be...
