I would do one in the winter then. 12 weeks of good training is fairly optimal to ramp up, so start looking when you get toward the end of the busy season.
Signing up for a comp always lights an extra fire under your ass; every time in almost every session where I want to quit or shortcut something I remember that I’m training actively for a meet, and it pushes you to get those last reps and do that last set.
Agreed! When I was training for that comp I was bulletproof in training and recovery. This winter I’ll definitely see what I can come up with. Even if it requires a little road-trip.
