Segansational's Motivation Log

Are you sure it is the squats and deadlifts causing the issue and not the amount of lower back work you have been doing with clearing the branches from the yard?

You know, that didn't really even dawn on me. So perhaps.

And in Seg’s case, he doesn’t even need to do 5x10 RDLs. We’re talking about a set of 10 prior with the empty barbell as a warmup, then maybe a set or two after if he feels good for the work. With very little load.

OK, this is definitely reasonable. I wasn't on board with signing up for 5x10 after DLs, but 1-2 sets with light-moderate weights makes sense. Will test it out on Monday!

Bench Press Day

Warm up routine.

Bench, rest-pause technique:
45x10
95x8
110x5
130x5
145x7

Working on the lift command cadence as well, to get used to a stop and press. Today went smoothly for 5s.

Machine Press:
5 plates x 10
7 plates x 10
8 plates x 10

1 hr 9 mins, 177 cals.

Pre: 3/4 Notorious Rage, 2 pumps L-carnitine gel, 4 caps Rev02, 1g Choline Citrate, 1g Vit C, 10g Collagen.
Intra: Same as usual.

Notes
Good way to end the week, feeling positive overall and sleep and readiness scores have been very good lately.

Finished up my tub of Carb Surge, so will be switching to Metabolic Nutrition Glycoload this month. It's main carb source is 12g cluster dextrin per scoop.

Met with my provider yesterday. Nothing earth shattering or that we didn't discuss here. Mostly just monitoring, but with the ability to titrate up my dose pending how the test/free test results come back. No change for today.

Life Stuff
Considering a job change, potentially going back to my prior employer. Have a meeting with the hiring manager this morning. I'm a little torn about the whole thing, but wondering if I'm just getting in my head again - more about the unknown / disliking change - even if it could be a positive change.

Nice session, and as far as the possible job change, you have got to do what is best for you and your family. If you left for a better opportunity and not an issue with your previous employer and now you have an option to improve your station again by going back, then give it some hell. Of course, make sure you have some room for promotion or you are getting promoted going back, or just making enough more money than you are currently to make you feel the change was worthwhile even if you don't get a promotion any time soon.

Best of luck on the life stuff man! I don’t have anything really to add other than doing what you feel is best for you and your family as MrKleen mentioned. Take some time to reflect on if it’s truly a positive/ negative and maybe reflect on why a change might be needed.

Thanks fellas! Yeah, only way I'm going back is if I get a significant pay raise given the increased responsibility and "starting over" again.

Honestly, I get bored when things are "too easy" - not in the sense of amount of work- but more when I feel too comfortable with my own knowledge level, my own subject matter expertise. I am always looking for a bit more of a challenge I think honestly when I get in that comfort zone. There's a lot of studies out there showing the optimal range of productivity being in that sweet spot of living somewhere between a state of anxiety and psychological safety to be in a learning state. Goldilocks zone, so to speak - meaning a level of accountability and effort to drive the best results. I guess at the end of the day, I'm a life long learner - or strive to be.

Deadlift Day

Warm up routine.

RDLs:
Empty bar x 10
+20x10

DLs, DOH grip, banded pull aparts prior to each set:
45x10
65x8
95x5
100x5
115x5
130x5

No extra reps or work today on 5s.

1 hr 1 mins, 144 cals.

Pre: 3/4 Notorious Rage, 4 caps Rev02, 2 pumps L-carnitine gel, 1g Choline Citrate, 1g VitC, 10g Collagen.
Intra: 1 scoop EAA9, 1 scoop R1 Lytes, 1 scoop MN , 5g Creatine Mono.

Notes
Wasn't feeling particularly strong coming into today's session. Over the weekend just felt little niggles in my lower back for no good reason. Ran out of time again this AM. Probably need to wake up another 15 mins earlier if I want to get the hypertrophy work in, which will out me at a 5 AM wake up call - so will need to make a decision on what's more important - extra 15 mins of sleep vs some extra hypertrophy sets.

isn't that funny how it happens sometimes just cause? I was on my feet for about 9hrs straight both days sat and sunday, bent over things like cook pots, chicken scalders, coolers, law mower etc and by end of both days lower back was seizing up, shoulder blades tight. I've even started taking my feet more seriously on the weekends realizing I need quality shoes even for days of yard work, yet this morning woke up feeling like a million bucks after about a week of a stiff lower back. just comes and goes it seems.

When it comes to 15 minutes, I would opt for the thing that is going to effect your goals more. That would be getting up IMHO. I really don't think 15 minutes is a game changer with sleep unless a power nap, or you wake up in the middle of a REM sleep and it makes you a bit groggy regardless. Also 15 minutes is easy to recover on the back end if you are that tired you just go to bed 15 minutes earlier.

You know, there is something to the footwear awareness I think.

We're a shoes off household, but I'm not always consistent about wearing my indoor shoes (crocs, slippers) vs walking around barefoot. And I do feel it if I've been barefoot for a while.

Of course there's the whole barefoot debate, but I think for me personally I do better with a bit of foot cushion. Especially after having been pulling DLs in socks in the AM.

Perhaps! With the kids going back to school tomorrow, I'll need to adjust to new timing slightly anyways, so maybe this is the adjustment on my end.

yeah I was raised no shoes in the house. drives me nuts, the only time you catch me with shoes on in the house is depth of winter when its cold, I have slippers the wife bought me. but outside I'm very aware that an arche helps me a lot. ironically, I would like to start wearing my barefoots again here and there cause I think they helped some too, to strength the foot.

There were only a few families that we knew growing up that had that rule, and we intentionally avoided playing at those houses as kids. Even as grown folk, I don't intentionally go somewhere I have to remove my shoes to go into. I mean it made sense to me for light carpets and stuff, but it was always confusing to me why people would want other people's athlete's foot having asses spreading fungus on the floors in there sweaty socks. Plus there always seemed to be that one friend whose feet smelled like roadkill, and skunk spray. Although to them my aversion to it is just as odd I am sure.

I think it depends on location, and lifestyle a lot. People out in the mud all day had dang well better remove their shoes, and then probably also a bit of class / income thing too. Most of the people in the US I knew to do this were also upper middle class at a minimum.

never once thought of this lol 😂 😂 😂 😂

could be part of it, we were always a muddy mess growing up between bmx racing, football, hunting, and just building forts in the back 40. We wore neoprene waders hunting but even they were useless, they just kept us warm, but not dry cause everything we owned was destroyed by barbed wire fences haha. Maybe thats where moms rule came from. but to this day I can't do it, its just a respect thing, when I enter someones house the shoes come off! although luckily for me when I'm out and about I'm either wearing cowboy boots or my 'nicest' (haha) heydudes, so its laceless anyways.

I hadn't ever thought about your comment there about gross feet lol, but I do try to have nice socks on so I'm presentable, lol. I just can't do it, wearing shoes inside someones house feels so disrespectful to me. I used to have to wait for my wife to take a half hour to take off her work clothes, coat, shoes, etc when she got home from work cause I could feel her vibrating that work tension in her work clothes. There's something about someone wearing a coat or shoes (or both!) in my house that tells me they're not relaxed and not even trying lol.

As a kid we hated it, and if you visited me and started taking your shoes off I would be so confused, but moreso would just be like you do not need to do that here. I wouldn't make you keep them on of course, but there would be no question it was not a requirement, or even the preference.

One of my step brothers had disgusting feet, he stunk all the time. If he ever took his shoes off around you it would ruin a starving mans appetite. I know a few people that had that rule, and when he went there he was asked to put his shoes back on. It made me sensitive to stinky feet, and to this day funky and or messed up feet, OH HELL TO THE NO!!!! More importantly for a few years it made me so wildly afraid of my feet smelling bad, which made me even more uncomfortable in someone's house with no shoes on. Although, outside of a few times I went sockless in some Chucks in my skater days my feet have never really smelled.

thats usually the treatment I get " you can keep your shoes on" and I just can't. Like we visit older retired folks with brand new white carpet and I'm like... I live on a dirt road and fed chickens an hour ago, I'm taking my boots off lol

I thought I had stinky feet at one point then I realized I had trashed a pair of shoes and that particular shoe always left my feet smelling weird and gluey. I think it was from getting them wet and not washing them right, but now days I'm always super concious of that. good socks, and never sockless in my shoes for that reason just in case, lol.

Different strokes for different folks, as they say. But yeah, it's a cross between both coming in with muddy / dirt covered shoes, or particularly during the winter months when salt and slush can get tracked in the house (especially with young kids) - but it's also more present in some cultures. In Asia, most homes have heating elements under the floor too, so when you take off your shoes it is more comfortable during the cold months.

But good point on barefeet during the summer and the stink, ha!

Quick TRT update in case anyone is interested:

Pulled my bloods at t=0, day 33, days 95-108.

Total T: 582.5 -> 896 -> 765
Free T: 109.7 -> 155 -> 174.4
E2: 19.6 -> 32 -> 23
SHBG: 40.2 -> 31 -> 29

The biggest factor here is decreased SHBG leading to increased free T outpacing my overall rise in total T.

Also, across 4 metrics I track subjectively/objectively (Subjective: Mood, Fatigue; Objective: Sleep Score, Readiness Score), Fatigue has been trending downward. This is one of the key areas I was hoping to see impact on. I still get a bit of tiredness late afternoon, but this has improved. Based on latest consult, we're still going to play around a bit with dosing / timing to see if we can completely eliminate the afternoon fatigue. But overall, no complaints.

@GreenMachineX since you're a data nerd like me.

This AM got in 37 mins of cardio on the bike, 202 cals burned. Same stack of Rev02, Napalm Xtreme, L-carnitine gel, and BCAA+Energy. Tbh, could've easily gotten 45-50 mins in with no problem today if I had more time!

How is libido, joints and energy overall with estrogen in the low 20's? My body does not seem to like that.

when I was 20 I had bought my first house and lived in it like a month before my inlaws asked my ex wife and I to "live" in and basically run their mini farm. they had bought it about 2-3 years before they could technically move in for reasons. anyways, I rented that little starter home (1 bedroom, 540 sq ft) to this older lady that was huge on Asian culture. she cut all her furniture down to nubs so that she had no chairs in her house. she did that to intentionally force herself to get up and down more often. by age 80 she got cancer and was still hiking a local trail that most 20 yr olds can barely finish, beat the cancer and for all I know she's alive and 100+ now lol. she had some pretty good but simple longevity hacks.
