Segansational's Motivation Log

Weekend updates, day in the life (not training related):

Made a series of small, but good choices (small wins) this weekend as I try to stay on track here with diet. Went out to a nice Mediterranean meal for dinner. Knowing I'd be eating a lot, I saved up some cals and also took 1 cap of Gains Candy dyhydroberberine pre-meal. Limited myself to 1 bourbon, which is easier than limiting beers.

Went to a music/food festival and skipped the ice cream. Had a summer ale on draft while listening to music, but again with the nice weather and atmosphere that easily could've been two.

Sunday, said no to the pub. Decided to give this non-alcoholic beer thing a try at home instead. Similar idea to the routine/enjoying having something refreshing to sip when its nice out. Tried Athletic Brewing hazy IPA. Not bad flavor, but a little thin bodied. Not sure if I'll seek out again, but at 1/2 - 2/3 less cals and no alcohol, it could be a good alternative. We'll see, as I bought a 6 pack.

Didn't get in my bonus workout, but lots of yard work, cleaned out the car long overdue), and lots of steps recorded this weekend. All in all, a good one!

This AM cardio, 35:06, 178 cals on the bike. Followed by ab work.

Good job man! I can relate on this, as I very much enjoy cold beer and lots of it. When I started cutting and tracking and getting serious about get the weight off and in shape was one of the hardest for me to cut out.

at 70 calories and 15g carbs its definitely less than say a Space Dust IPA at 230 calories!

I'm bummed, my ursa, triton, and epi all came in yesterday and I completely forgot to apply this morning before i left the house lol. we had a late night out with friends and I was a bit out of routine this a.m.
Hopefully you've given it a try now? Ursa is a bit weird, because your clothes definitely 'stick' after applying.

Thanks man, I've done it before, so know I can do it again. Just gotta buckle down!

For sure. And I usually go for the 16 oz double IPAs which can sometimes go north of 300 cals.

Coke zero is also a go-to right now for me, at home or out.

I'm still trying to determine it's impact, I'm running Ursa with epichaos and triton. I think I'm hoping for more from the Triton and Epichaos. I tend to wear a white under shirt under my button downs for work so I let it dry for about 5+ minutes before putting a shirt on and that helps a lot. I use both shoulders/clavicles, upper arms, and then tops of feet and ankles to find hairless real estate...

ha my original reply had a long ass response about how instead of beer I do bourbon (80 cal vs 240+) and if I'm going dry I just... go dry. at home it will be sparkling waters with my wife and if I'm out with the guys golfing, or video games with my son, diet coke!

Weight check in yesterday showed I didn't do any damage from the weekend. Holding steady at 167.2#. This week I'll have to reduce cals down a bit so I can achieve the 1# per week loss I'm after. Or at least stay a little more strict on weekends.

Did cardio and abs yesterday. Legs this morning.

Bird Dogs x10,5,3
Seated leg ext:
1 plate x 12, warm up
3 plates x 3 x 10

Banded pull aparts, 2 x 10
BB front squats:
95 x 3 x 10

RDLs
95 x 3 x 10

42:12, 113 cals.

Pre: 1 scoop Ghost Pump TMNT, 2 caps Ergoamp
Intra: 1 scoop Juice, 2g CissusXT, 1 scoop Kaged Muscle Hydration

Didn't have a ton of energy this morning, alarm came too soon! Honestly was just moving slow. Just didn't feel motivated to do legs. This past weekend I felt wiped energywise. Think it may be the come down from the Ergoamp, although yesterday I didn't have that problem. Will monitor.

When I used ursa orally it would send me hypo it was so strong for me. I would be curious how the TD treated me.

Yeah, if I do decide I want to have a drink while watching calories most of the time it will be a Bulleit Rye on the rocks, or a ranch water, both in that same caloric range. I actually had a nice Rye on the rocks Monday when I got home from my buddies funeral. Was exactly what I needed.

I feel like I'm having a brain damage moment, what is hypo? right now running epichaos, ura, and triton at times I feel light headed and weird like when I first tried ultra hard, for about an hour in the morning.

Pretty sure they are talking hypoglycemic

from ursa?
Yep from ursa, I used to use the OG Ursa supplement. I think it was Ursabolic or something like that. Without fail a little while after taking it, or a little while after a big fast acting carb meal I would go hypo. I was very sensitive to it. I would literally get eyes rolling in the back of my head wanting to pass out hypo from it. If I waited it out for 15-30 minutes I would fully recover, because well I have a liver with glycogen stored in it. I don't think that everyone gets the same effect, but when I went out and read up on it I understood why it was making me hypo.

Wow, very interesting. I haven't experienced it to my knowledge with TD Ursa, although my energy levels have seemingly been lower lately. Could be my reduced cals though or higher energy expenditure...

Ranch water, that might be one for me to try. I have Teremana tequila sitting at home, and my wife has one of those home carbonation systems. Add a little lime and I'd be good to go.

Upper body.

Foam rolling/stretching to begin.
Rotator cuff ex, resistance bands 2x12,12

Bench Press, suicide grip:
95x10
135x6
155x1
145x4,3,4
Caught my left hand on the rack and smashed it a little on the bottom of my palm. Ripped a little skin off. Was a pretty poor bench session.

BB Rows, with straps:
135x6,6,7

DB incline curls
15x8,10,10

TRX triceps ext, 3x12

Additional foam rolling to finish.

58:18, 208 cals.

No real strength today, didn't have the drive or focus. Just going to put this WO behind me.

Noticing that the past two days Ursa is leaving quite a bit of residue on my skin.

Pre: 1 scoop Ghost TMNT, 2 caps Ergoamp
Intra: 1 scoop Juice, 2g CissusXT, 1 scoop Kaged Hydration

Oh man, I have had that pinch. It makes you gun shy when racking the bar for a little bit. Always have to look over real quick to make sure you are aligned correctly.

Ya epicat can be pretty effective on lowering blood pressure for some individuals. If it wasn't from lowered blood sugar it could just be a blood pressure thing. I've had that issue in the past with some combinations.

Interesting, didn’t know that! Definitely blood sugar in my case; hypoglycemia doesn’t really feel like hypotension to me (similar fatigue but I don’t get the shakiness with low blood pressure). Adding glucose immediately resolved it, and using more carbs peri prevents it.

~32 mins on the bike, 212 cals, followed by russian medicine ball twists x crunches, 3 sets of 10-12.

This morning's weigh in: 165.2# (-2.0#) and that was after breakfast.

Also, quick weekly view of nutrition. Still tweaking macros, but in general staying on track with the reduced cals goal. Just a hair above 1800 cals right now, which seems to be working.

Miscalculated tonight's taco dinner, so ended up being a bit higher than I had wanted.

Had a high calorie day on Sat, then back to baseline on Sunday. Looking forward to the weigh in this AM.

Decided to do a deadlift workout this AM. Wanted to do it yesterday, but didn't get the time.

Curl Ups x10,5,3

Deadlifts, overhand grip:
95x10
135x6
185x3,3,3
Really focused on keeping my core tight.

Rack deadlifts, just below the knees, belted, & mixed grip:
240x3
260x2
280x0,1

Foam rolling and stretching to finish.
44:29, 172 cals

Pre: 2 caps Ergoamp, 1 scoop Ghost Pump TMNT
Intra: 1/2 scoop Juice, 1/2 scoop Bomba, 2g CissusXT, 1 scoop Kaged Hydration. Ran out of G Code Juice, so will finish out with Bomba then switch back to Allmax Muscle EAAs + Cluster Bomb HBCDs. Was nice to not have to mix up a million powders before. Will probably add in Tango for the creatine.

Well, 33:33 cardio on the bike, 213 cals. Followed up with some hanging knee raises and incline crunches. Upper back/shoulder girdle feeling a bit tight/knotted from yesterday's deadlift pulling, but to be expected. Diet wasn't great yesterday (158 cals over), but macros were relatively balanced. So...

This morning's routine got really thrown off. I was up early because one of my smoke detectors had a low battery beep. Started my workout and then my son was up, so probably a 20 mins break only after just starting my routine. And then had to do the breakfast routine for everyone... looked something like this:

Bird Dogs x10,5,3

Seated leg ext:
Warm up, 1 plate x 12
3 plates x 10,10

20 mins PAUSE

BB squats:
Warm up, 105x10
135x6
185x5,5,5
Kept reps lower to ease back into what hopefully will be a bit of a strength focus even while on this cut. Plus the cold start after the pause to save my knees.

Another 10 mins PAUSE

RDLs:
105x10,10,10

Called it after this. Too many distractions and breaks at this point. Live to lift another day!

Light stretching/foam rolling.
41:46, 157 cals

Pre: 2 caps Ergoamp, 1 scoop Ghost TMNT
Intra: 1 scoop Bomba, 1/2 scoop Cluster Bomb, 2g CissusXT, 1 scoop Kaged Hydration

Taking the day off before the kids start school to do one last fun activity with the family to end the summer. Going to try to hit the beach for the day, even though the forecast is iffy. Wish us luck!

Hope you guys have a blast!
Thanks @Hyde! We hit some ran as expected on the ride there, but killed half an hour or so at a store and then the weather cleared up. Perfect beach day! We weren't allowed in the water because of the rip currents, but honestly my kids were just happy to play in the sand all afternoon.

Let myself eat whatever I wanted and had 2 big slices of boardwalk pizza (meatball & chix parm), some fries, and a frozen custard. Was stuffed by the end of it and still ended up just over 2k cals for the day.

39:15, 245 cals on the bike this AM, plus swiss ball crunches & russian medicine ball twists. Long weekend coming up, life is good!

3 plates, warm up x 12
8 plates x 10
9 plates x 10
10 plates x 10
11 plates x 6

Lat pulldowns:
9 plates x 10,10,10

Preacher Cable Curls:
3 plates x 10
4 plates x 10,10

Dips, 3 sets to failure

DB laterals:
15 x 3 x 10

52:37, 164 cals

Not the best session, just not a ton of drive this morning. But headed into a long weekend. Hope everyone has some time to relax!

Pre: 2 caps Ergoamp, 1 scoop Ghost TMNT

Intra: 3/4 scoop Bomba + 1/4 scoop Breach+, 1/2 scoop Cluster Bomb, 1/2 scoop Tango, 2g CissusXT, 1 scoop Kaged Hydration. Finished up Bomba EAAs today. Also realized I need to get back to regular creatine usage, so incorporated Tango again. Each scoop is 7g of creatine from 3 sources, so I'm planning on using only half to 3/4 of a scoop.

Just did a review of my supp stash and I have a ridiculous amount of pre's. Some really old stuff (anyone remember AEN?), but also some new stuff (like Ekko Dethroner) that I need to use up before it becomes unusable. Not sure how I'll ever get through this all. May need to throw a few in the freezer, although I've never had much luck with that approach...

32:12, 212 cals on the bike this morning. Weighed in yesterday at 165.8# (-0.4# since last weigh in). Week's cals looked like this. A couple of higher cal days put me over my average target.

Headed out for the weekend. Going to a ballgame tomorrow, so that should be a fun day for the family. First one!

Had a great day at the ballpark yesterday! Had our own section outfield by 3rd base line and access to a buffet. Was HOT out, but we all had fun anyways. Let the kids come home with a baseball/playground ball each.

Bench Day:
Rotator cuff ex, resistance bands, 2x12,12

Bench Press:
Warm up, 105x8
140x6
160x3
170x3
180x1 - slow single rep.

Cool down, Neutral Grip pushups
3 sets x 10

28:40, 160 cals.

Pre: 2 caps Ergoamp, 1 scoop Ghost TMNT. This was my last dose of Ergoamp. Will see what I decide to go with for a mental/metabolic boost next.
Intra: 1 scoop Muscle EAAs, 2g CissusXT, 1 scoop Kaged Hydration, 1/2 scoop Cluster Bomb, 1/2 scoop Tango

Leg Day

Bird Dogs x10,5,3

Seated leg ext:
1 plate x 12, warm up
3 plates x 3 x 10

Banded pull aparts 2x12 with
BB front squats:
95 x 3 x 10
Will increase this next WO.

RDLs:
105 x 3 x 10
Followed by foam rolling.

TRX calf raises
2x15

Honestly, not enjoying leg day lately. Just going through the motions. Much preferred when I was doing gym workouts. Good news is that I'm starting to see a little bit of physical change. Cuts starting to appear in the right lighting in quads, arms, and even slightly in abs.

48:31, 172 cals.

Pre: 1 scoop Muscleforce Defiant Unleashed July 4th Edition. As this is starting to clump, will be using this for the next several weeks to try and finish it up. This helped wake me up nicely this AM after interrupted sleep last night.
Intra: 1 scoop Muscle EAA, 1 scoop Kaged Hydration, 2g CissusXT, 1/2 scoop Tango, 1/2 scoop Cluster Bomb.

Have you ever done a death by, or pyramided death by set scheme? When I'm doing hypertrophy movements that aren't necessarily my favorite (such as front squats, or thrusters for that matter) I'll do an EMOTM death by.
min 1 = 1 rep
min 2 = 2 reps
min 3 = etc
until I hit a target. usually I'm tapping out by 11+ reps on thrusters at 95lbs so on the next minute I go back wards. 10, 9, 8, etc.
it's not a great strength approach but is a fantastic conditioning/volume approach that keeps you motivated and on the clock when lifting alone.

Is there a way to do your legs in a gym weekly? The best results will come when you can consistently execute.

Discipline matters somewhat in that, but you also want to either actually enjoy the process, or be so driven by the goal/want that you can hate the process & still execute with full gusto.

That sounds brutal, and surprisingly fun. I may try that my next session!

Well, now that I'm not with my coach, I don't have access to a gym outside of my home set up. But my wife just joined Planet Fitness, maybe I'll do the same just to switch it up every once and a while.

it's both.. lol. The past year I have been so strength focused I have not done this type of work. But when working solo and chasing conditioning/fat loss, etc I find using a timer works great. I have one called WOD timer or something with EMOTM, custom EMOTM (so I have a E2min On the minute setting), count downs, and count ups. I like running EMOTM timers in this scenario because I still have the clock to compete against, if not a lifting buddy. Grace is a wod that was 30 x 135lb clean and jerks for time. when I was no longer able to do it in 2 minutes (roughly unbroken), I'd do it as an EMOTM, 5 reps for 6 rounds. Then 6 reps for 5 rounds, etc etc working to challenge myself and improve my times.

just little tricks to make conditioning less boring.

Took 1/2 a scoop of MF Defiant Unleashed July 4th ed. Sweat like a mofo. Bike, 30:09, 220 cals. Probably longer based on time and my fitbit had to restart. 3 sets of incline crunches, plus some foam rolling/stretching.

Upper body.

Foam rolling/stretching to begin.
Rotator cuff ex, resistance bands 2x12,12

Bench Press:
105x10
140x6
160x4,4,5 - felt good today and an improvement in reps on last set by 2. Probably had another in the tank. Feel like things are finally trending in the right direction.

Neutral Grip Pull Ups x 10,8,
Dips, 3 sets to failure

Machine Preacher Curls:
3 plates x 12
4 plates x 10,10

DB laterals, 10x2x12

58:52, 220 cals.

Felt good, feel like I'm finally starting to look good in the right lighting. I think probably by the time I hit 158ish I'll feel pretty good about body comp. From my past cuts I know I'd need to get down to 150 or so before I have a semblance of abs, but I think a good maintenance level will be around 155-156ish and then build lean from there.

Pre: 3 caps Thermo Scorch, 1 scoop MF Defiant Unleashed July 4th Edition
Intra: 1 scoop Muscle EAA, 2g CissusXT, 1 scoop Canteen 1/2 scoop Cluster Bomb, 1/2 scoop Tango.

Just finished up my last dose of paradoxine this morning. Have a few days of Forskolin XT left. But the good news is that a bottle of Thermo Scorch just came in! Will start that up next to continue things in the right direction. @sns8778 I noticed that it has Caloriburn 150 mg vs Paradoxine at 100 mg solo. How do you compare the two forms, being both are standardized slightly differently, correct?

CaloriBurn and Paradoxine are extremely similar - basically competing ingredients from different branded ingredient companies. The reason for CaloriBurn being in Thermo Scorch is because MitoBurn is in there, and CaloriBurn is from the same company that has the patent on MitoBurn. So it makes the most sense to select that version for that product.

Personal use wise, I view CaloriBurn and Paradoxine interchangeably.

You should definitely get a membership at PF if you don't want the tanning bed or massage beds, and only use one location it is like $10 a month. If you want the bells and whistles and all club access it is 24.99. PF has more than enough of everything to build a proper bodybuilding physique. It may not all be the best but it isn't bad at all.

Good info. Are those two doses being offered comparable regarding active content since mg vs mg is different?

Yeah, I mean, a day pass most places is $10. So even if I only use it once on the weekend or even just twice a month it would work out.

We dose this ingredient higher than most brands do in general. Most brands dose this at 25 to 50 mg., whereas we go with higher dosing for better effectiveness.

Lean Edge has 150 mg. Paradoxine.

Thermo Scorch has 150 mg. CaloriBurn.

Paradoxine caps (our single ingredient product) is 100 mg. per capsule and suggested use is up to 3 caps per day.

A lot of people stack Lean Edge and Thermo Scorch, which would equal = 300 mg. per day total, which is the same dose as 3 capsules per day of Paradoxine caps.

You would not ever really want to routinely do singles on competition benchpress, unless specifically powerlifting and either getting close to a contest or trying to stay near peak strength for a period of time. What you did will raise your bench much more effectively than a heavier single.

I have heard it over and over singles are for testing your strength not building it.

You may have seen a lot of singles on my heavy bench day in recent months, but there has always been 24-48 reps of heavy work right behind it. That’s what drives the progress; singles are skill work to display strength.

Appreciate the advice fellas. Right now I think the singles are more for my ego, since I'm so far off from where I used to be with strength.

Deadlift Day.

Was feeling completely beat up / beat this morning, so didn't do the early AM thing. Slept in a bit. Instead, got in a workout session after lunch.

Deadlifts, overhand grip:
95x10, warm up
135x6
185x5,5,5
These felt good today even beltless and overhand grip which is not my best grip. Increased working reps by 2 on each set.

Rack deads, mixed grip, belted, mid-shin/lowest rack setting:
240x3
260x2
280x0
260x2
Definitely tougher pulling lower today, not sure why I chose this change. Bit of a struggle, but need to push myself!

44:23, 225 cals

@Hyde given the comment before, are doubles OK for strength progression? Or should I leave these at a weight for 3 rep pulls (vs 2)?

Pre: 1 scoop Defiant Unleashed July 4th edition
Intra: 1 scoop Muscle EAA, 1 scoop Kaged Hydration, 2g CissusXT, 1/2 scoop Cluster Bomb.

Also, I think it's pretty clear I won't end up doing a show this year (again). So, with that in mind, perhaps my focus shifts back to my original strength goals before the end of the year (along with continuing the weight loss goal). 315 for deads was the goal, 225 on bench. Last go round hit 295/205 if I recall right. So was close on deads at least. Feel like a moderate length run of LGD might help here while not going into bulking territory. Maybe 16mg over 12 weeks, Oct-Dec?

33:01, 175 cals on the bike this AM. Took 1/2 scoop of Defiant Unleashed July 4th edition, and my first 3 cap serving of Thermo Scorch. Also, forgot how nice it was to not have lower back pain. Last evening into this AM, those low rack deads reminded me that this is a young man's game...

Anyways, warmed up with some Curl Ups, did foam rolling/stretching before and after. Hit a few sets of abs for counterbalance.
