Segansational's Motivation Log

iHerb is the best price on Karbolyn I’ve ever found. They have a pretty low free shipping threshold and will have 20% off sales on some holidays making it $40 per tub, cheaper on Black Friday.

Sales should be going live tomorrow for anywhere having them, so be on the lookout for whatever products you like to use!
Thanks @Hyde
well you might have just ruined my wife's favorite dress for me
Haha, now she can get a new one with vertical lines. Make her waist look even smaller! ;)

IMO, without seeing your incline setup I feel like your inclines are proportionately much bettter than mine.
I think I've been hitting 135 x 10's pretty comfortably but like with a 305 1rm bench I don't think I've ever Inclined more than around 205 ish for a single. It seems like you have much better carry over here.

I've grown to like incline a lot in the past year or 18 months. took me about 6 months to do it pain free but I think it was probably my greatest peck builder of the last 10 years.

I do them as low incline, so my guess is it's about a 30 degree incline. This helps make sure it doesn't aggravate my shoulders too much, but probably does also give me a bit more pressing power.

But yeah, my general weight handling between the two is probably relatively similar. Maybe not on the true top end (1RM) for bench, but I've also not really tested 1RM for incline.

I am too dang messy for white shirts. I get the hanes V-necks, and normally get the black ones. I might have to look into the Nordstrum ones, but these fit my shoulders, chest, and arms a little snug, but aren't so loose around the waist that I look like a walking fridge. I would still prefer an actual athletic fit. Are the neck holes a little big or just a very small neck hole with a V? I prefer a little larger neck hole. I want the "collar" of the shirt on high on my upper traps, but not touching my neck. So a bit wider hole, that drops a little lower on the chest. I tend to wear mine out as a regular shirt, or just at home for comfort. So I avoid the white ones because it only takes one time dropping food or leaning against something to mess one up.

Yeah, I gave up on normal undershirts with round necks. Now I mostly wear v-necks or those low scooped neck t-shirts. Some days I feel like the normal neck just chokes me. And I don't even have a huge neck. It's probably psychosomatic.

Well, for anyone interested, nutricartel has a 20% off sale code live (22% if you go over $180), so a tub of SuperCarb ended up only being $32. Best I've seen.

Sweet deal!!!!

Hope everyone had a great holiday! We spent ours with family and got to watch some pretty good fireworks displays from the top of a hill where you could see about 6 or 7 town's displays going all at once. Plus the ones we were doing right overhead. Wish I had my phone to take a picture, it really is a sight to see, but oh well.

Short week ahead for me before a proper vacation, but prepping myself for it to be a little crazy at work.

Pickleball session yesterday was 1 hr 15 mins, 743 cals in the heat. Had some electrolytes on deck afterwards.

Now for the bad news:

Well, I suppose it was only a matter of time before my injuries popped up again. Yesterday I was playing pickleball with some new folks, and as I went to reach for a slightly high and wide shot, I felt my right shoulder pop. This is the one that had the issue ever since my incline bench mishap. Kept playing through and yesterday I noticed it but wasn't expecting any real issues. Today I can tell that it will hinder performance. The biggest issue is straight overhead, but out to the side as a lateral is also a problem. So likely no benching tomorrow, and we'll see how this AM goes.

Was planning to still keep up with the gym over vacation (found a gym that has a week pass for cheap), but now I'm questioning whether I should just give myself the week off.

Accessory Back Day

Foam rolling / stretching
Cat Camels
Bird Dogs x10,5,3
Arm circles
Dead hangs, neutral grip

Noting that as the shoulder felt tender even on neutral grip, opted to forego pull ups.

TRX rows x 3 x 10

Close Grip Machine Rows:
3 plates x 10
6 plates x 10
7 plates x 2 x 10

BB rows, Swissies Grip:
95x10,10,10

Pre: 1 scoop Juice Daddy, 3 caps VasoforceXT, 3 caps PrimeXT, 2 caps Pepti-Plex
Intra: 1 scoop Klout, 1 scoop R1 Lytes, 5g creatine mono.

Notes
Started up PEA relief yesterday evening to try and accelerate alleviating my shoulder pain, along with applying the CurcuPrime directly to it.

Shoulder did OK today with lighter neutral grip pulls. Purposely didn't do anything to heavy today. Will need to make a judgment call about tomorrow.

Always focus on what you can do! If you need to protect the shoulder for a minute, do that - and lean into whatever extra you can tolerate fine. Lunges, curls, low rows, grip or forearms, abs, more cardio, whatever you find you can do safely for everything. So you keep up with your exercise routine frequency while respecting the current limitations.

May not be worth getting a week gym pass on vacay, but I’d still make time for 1-2 sessions of leg and back machines, for example. Or do some bodyweight lunges and cycle sprints at the hotel one morning, etc.

are you able to do this movement w/out pain? I've legit torn my rotator cuff twice over the years and any time it acts up I throw these in.

Ha! Not sure I could ever do that movement, LOL. But right now that'd be a no, at least probably not weighted.

Maybe I'll work those into my warm up routine though once the shoulder is feeling a little more recovered.

Yeah, I think I'm already planning to swap days and do legs tomorrow instead of risking benching. Maybe throw in cardio day on Wed before vacation.

one thing I want to stress when you have the movement correct, its not a strength excercise. you could probably attempt it with nothing in your hands at all. holding your hand towards the sky in that position and holding it for 15-30 seconds until you feel the warming sensation throughout the connective tissue all around your shoulder. for me, it's probably the best feeling prehab/rehab movement there is once you find the spot and it just warms up.

FWIW; we were always coached that no matter how strong you are, we never did them over 35lbs (men). so honestly i'm not sure I ever tried, aside from heavy turkish getups which are a similar start. 5lbs, 10lbs, etc is enough to get into that position.

Daughter woke me up at 4 AM last night. Had trouble falling back asleep since I have so much work stuff on my mind getting ready to go out on vacation later this week.

Legs
Foam rolling / stretching
Scap Push Ups
Bird Dogs x10,5,3
Lacrosse ball work - have a big knot near my right shoulder I really need to work on. Whole right side up to my neck feels tight.

TRX squats x TRX lunges, 3x10
TRX calf raises, plate raised, 3x12

BB squats:
45x10
95x8
135x6,6,6

52:57, 135 cals.

Kept everything light. Wasn't sure how holding the BB would feel with my right shoulder today. Only a bit of pulling in the position, but everything just feels tightened and bunched up on that side.

Pre: 1 scoop Total War, 1 cap EJ, 3 caps PrimeXT, 2 caps Pepti-Plex.
Intra: Same as yesterday. Think my SuperCarb should arrive today so I can get some carbs back intra-WO.

PM'd you.

Woke up for a little cardio only session this AM. 27 mins, 104 cals on the bike. Not much of a burn, but given I haven't done any dedicated cardio in a while figure something is better than nothing!

Shoulder is starting to feel more back to normal today, but my lower back didn't love the bike session.

Last day of work for the week for me! Also got an early bday present, Mario Odyssey on the Switch. So that'll be something fun to do in free time.

Debating whether or not to keep up with my PrimeXT and Pepti-Plex this week on vacation or not, as I may not get any workouts in. Still debating here.

Either way I'll keep up with my other staples (MultiXT, Joint SupportXT, etc.). But aside from the 1 month hiatus, I've ran these continuously for 4 months now. Thoughts @sns8778?

Kids woke me up to help with the TV not working right this morning, so figured I might as well get my workout in...

Chest
Foam rolling / stretching.
Rotator cuff exercises, resistance bands, 2x12,12
I noticed some slight popping on my right shoulder doing the side banded work. Didn't hurt, but noticeable.

Tested out chest/shoulder with Machine Press first:
3 plates x 10
7 plates x 3 x 10

Kept it all light as warm up, to not overload the shoulder for benching next.

Bench Press:
45x10
95x8
135x6,6,6

Could tell that my shoulder isn't 100% back yet, particularly on the lift off and at the bottom. But all in all, keeping it light and just getting back into the motion I think was helpful.

Time: 31:21, a little off as I missed recording one of my sets. But quicker session this AM and didn't go too hard out the gate.

Pre: 1 scoop Total War, 3 caps PrimeXT, 2 caps Pepti-Plex.
Intra: Same as prior, still no carbs yet. Should deliver today assuming porch pirates dont take my goodies while I'm gone.

Notes
Also, in case I didn't mention, I added in PEA Relief and I am applying 1 pump of XPG CurcuPrime directly to my shoulder daily in the morning.

I am no @sns8778 but my recommendation if planning to continue is to keep taking it while you are on vacation in a surplus. You would most likely want the same hormonal benefits during this "deload" so that the supercompensation while resting has a better chance of growing some new tissue. I don't know enough about Pepti-Plex to say much, but I would think the PRIME XT would be beneficial.

Prime is supposed to be non-hormonal. Can't recall what suspected MOA is, as I don't think we know for sure - but thought it was more hypertophy / muscle sparing. Would need Steve to weigh in here.

In any event, I brought all my SNS supps along and got into the gym this week. $30 for the week - can't beat that!

Back Workout
Foam rolling
Scap Push Ups
Bird Dogs x10,5,3
Cat Camels

Neutral grip pull ups x 5,4,4

BB Rows:
Warm ups,
45x12
95x10
Working sets, belted:
135x6,6,6

Life Fitness Row/Rear Delt Machine:
50x10
60x10
70x10 - this set felt like good activation
80x10

Life Fitness Pulldown Machine:
50x10
60x10
70x10
Felt a slight pull on my shoulder as I racked that last set, so glad I didn't push heavier weights.

EZ bar standing preacher curlsBar x 12
+20x10
+25x8,8

Rope machine curls:
22.5x3x10

Foam rolling / stretching to finish.

55:20, 200 cals.

Pre: 1 scoop Total War, 3 caps PrimeXT, 2 caps Pepti-Plex , 5g creatine mono.
Intra: 1 scoop R1 Lytes.

This place had everything I needed / will need for the week. Plus, it looks like there's some fun bar variations I'll have to play with this week.

It is a natural anabolic, I know it isn't hormonal so to speak but for lack of a better way to express it besides natural anabolic which just popped in my head just now. It would have been a better way to say it. Still the end result would be more anabolic action during your deload and likely surplus period on diet. Which would likely drive more anabolism at a time you are resting enough to get some super compensation.

Also nice looking session.

Here are a few shots of the gym & equipment.

Oh Man!!! You are so lucky! I haven't found a gym with the Pepto Bismol Bar! What a rare find!!!! I hear they keep you from shitting yourself during a max attempt!

Hahaha, hey, some days you need that - particularly after some pre's!!

But I'm actually pretty psyched to be able to try out the duffalo and trap bar this week for squats and deads, respectively.

dude $30 for a 1 week drop in is great, I usually find myself stuck with a $20-25 per day fee if I can't find a local LA Fitness or something. that session you had looks like you got some above average volume in too

You definitely should try them. I like squatting with a buffalo bar. And Trapbar always feels so strong and easy on the back, more of a legpress that builds some grip & yoke too.

If you bench again, see how the Swissbar feels on your grouchy shoulder. Could be a great opportunity to see if it’s a worthwhile investment later for your home gym. You can find them pretty affordably, and lots of used ones out there at this point.

I would definitely keep taking them because I wouldn't want to have to wait for them to build back up in my system.

Plus, in my case, Pepti-Plex helps with my leg and the nerve and muscle damage a lot.

Oh yeah, this is usually the price for a day pass. Plus they let me bring someone too. With two sessions in already, it's already paid for itself.

Today I tried out the duffalo for squats. Definitely felt different - particularly it forced placement on my back in a specific way if that makes sense. Plus there was a bit of a wobble that I had to adjust to.

Makes sense, I brought it with me and I'm keeping up with it anyways since I got a week long gym pass.

Seated leg curl,
50x10,10,10

Seated calf raises, done on seated leg press machine:
110x3x10

135x6

Working sets,
160x4
160x4
160x4
160x4

Hit the J-cup on the way up on my last set at rep #2, but managed to stabilize and finish out. Didn't feel terrible today given shoulder is probably still only about 85% better?

Life Fitness Chest Press:
50x12
70x10
80x10
90x10
95x10

Life Fitness Cable Crossovers,
12.5x3x10
Had to keep it light due to pulling on my shoulder, so slow & controlled.

Foam rolling / stretching to finish.

47:28, 176 cals.

Pre: 1 scoop Total War, 1 scoop creatine, 3 caps PrimeXT, 2 caps Pepti-Plex.
Intra: 1 scoop R1 Lytes.

Neutral grip pull ups, wide x 5,4,4

Trap Bar Deadlifts:
Warm ups,
+50x10
+90x8
Working sets,
+140x6,6,6

Was going to only add 10s to the 45s already on there, but miscalculated and added a 25 to one side. Figured if I could pull it unbalanced I might as well just go for it.

These were definitely a lower back saver. Felt higher than how I pull even with Swissies at home, but might be in my head.

RDLs, Olympic BB only x 2 x 10

Straight arm lat pulldowns:
22.5x10
27.5x10

Foam rolling / stretching to finish.

46:43, 186 cals.

Pre: 1 scoop Total War, 1 scoop creatine, 3 caps PrimeXT, 2 caps Pepti-Plex.
Intra: R1 Lytes

Notes
One more full day here at the lake and then we head home. So this is probably my last WO at this gym, but it's been great being able to largely stay on track with my WO schedule. Plus, test out some new gym equipment. Should be a sunny day today, so hoping for some all day swimming & tubing!

It is pretty awesome you were able to find and make good use of a gym out there.

Yeah, I mean 5 out of 7 days with real workouts in on vacation is a definite win in my log book! Helped that my brother-in-law is also an early riser / gym goer. But I've been eyeing up this place the past two times or so we've come to the lake - finally planned well enough to make it happen.

honestly I am not really an early riser. 4:30am mon-fri but 6-7am sat/sun is fine by me. Still there is something about those vacation sessions that are a great feeling. low stress, meander in, meander out. feels really good.

UHM!!! That makes you an early riser Sir! I am not getting out of bed on a weekend before 8 unless I have too. I will simply just lay back down and rest if I can't sleep unless I actually get restless and know I can't get any more rest. I kind of have to because sometimes my sleep during the week is not as good as it could be. Just being too wired to fall asleep early enough to get my hours in before 4:30AM on weekdays.

lol I'm basically the same way but that's why I still end up falling asleep by 8:30 on friday and Saturday, so by 6:30 i'm looking at 10hours, then a run on the wife, then up to make coffee.

4:30 is definitely an early riser!!

I still maintain I am not a morning person by nature, but having done it now for the past 8 years, it's no longer that hard to get up with my alarm most days.

And there is something enjoyable about getting up while the house is quiet. Plus I find myself much more regimented. I mean, I was the organized one on vacation, making sure people were fed for breakfast, getting dressed to start our day, etc.

Back home for my normal routine:

Scap Push Ups
Bird Dogs x10,5,3
Cat Camels

TRX squats x TRX alt lunges, 3x10
TRX calf raises, 3x12

BB Squats:

Working sets, banded pullaparts prior to each set, belted:
165x5
175x5
185x5

Foam rolling / stretching to finish.

59:03, 173 cals.

Pre: 1 scoop Total War, 3 caps PrimeXT, 2 caps Pepti-Plex
Intra: 1 scoop Klout, 1 scoop R1 Lytes, 5g creatine, 1/2 scoop Super Carb.

Notes
Got a few packages while I was gone, including my SuperCarb and Karbolyn deals. Also picked up Smash AMF, because why not? Will probably give e that one added go tomorrow...

Also, made it another trip around the sun yesterday. Not going to lie, it was pretty lackluster/underwhelming as far as birthdays go (spent most of it packing up all morning from vacation and heading home, ~ 2.5 hrs car ride driving), but hey, I suppose that's what it's like when you get to my age. Did get a pretty good ice cream cake though!

I don't mind a quiet house but already our days are getting shorter and I'm waking up in the dark. thats where it starts to get difficult for me. I prefer sunrises over sunsets by a mile and love when the morning sun wakes me up naturally. I think I "want" to be a morning person, but like last night I didn't get to bed until 9 (got home late) and lights out around 9:30... just that one hour left me hitting the snooze instead of taking a morning walk with the puppy.

Also, made it another trip around the sun yesterday. Not going to lie, it was pretty lackluster/underwhelming as far as birthdays go

for as long as my wife and I have been together she has asked me "what do you want for your birthday". Just two things, the same two things every year. if I get those two things then its the best day of the year ;)
for the most part I don't enjoy bdays I think cause I don't really understand them. but I also have never been good about celebrating accomplishments etc... more of a "the journey" kinda guy.

Nice little stash, welcome back and you came home to goodies! What a way to end a trip! Also, happy belated birthday!

Thanks man!

Sex & a steak?

NWOOOOO… 4 Life

Too sweet!

So, a few things:

1. Didn’t take my SNS Stress & Anxiety on vacation as I thought stress would be low. I was definitely more irritable even a day or two off. Glad to be back on this.
2. Shoulder is still bugging me a bit, but it's more on the back side of the joint, if that makes sense?
3. Decided to test out Smash AMF this AM. Peach Rings. Flavor leaves a lot to be desired. Tub was super full to the brim. Short bit in on one full scoop and my ears got hot, feel a bit of that jittery coldness too. A little distracting tbh. Will see how this lift session goes.

Accessory Chest Day
Foam rolling / stretching
Scap push Ups
Bird Dogs x10,5,3
Cat camels
Rotstor cuff ex, resistance bands 2x12,12

Incline Bench Press:
Warm ups,
45x10
95x8
135x6
Working sets,
155x3x5

Felt heavy this AM.

Machine Chest Press:
3 plates x 10
7 plates x 3x10

Machine Flys:
3 plates x 2x10

1 hr 10 mins, 252 cals.

Pre: 1 scoop Smash AMF, 3 caps PrimeXT, 2 caps Pepti-Plex.
Intra: Same as yesterday.

This was a less than stellar session. Was too distracted by the jitters of Smash AMF. Tons of rest between sets. A lot of sweating too. Oh well. May try a 3/4 or 1/2 scoop next time I use this.

Yeah, me and jittery pre-workouts don't work well together. I may be super amped up, but it seems my body is overstimulated to the point it can't send a good signal to the working muscles and i feel weaker, like I am going hypo and performance sucks. For me it is often things with more than 100mg or mcg of theobromine or cocoa extract. I can't remember if it is dosed in mg or mcg off of the top of my head.

Happy belated birthday! I kind of felt like that with my birthday this year (it fell on a Monday & my wife works a double that day), but then I realized I already had everything I really wanted all around me. It didn’t need to be a particularly special day, because at this point life has something good about it every single day. It’s too easy to take it all for granted or forget how temporary everything can be!

Sounds like how Yohimbine treats me; can’t do it in any pre. Alpha-y in a fat burner is alright though.

I don't get that feeling from Yohimbine HCL or whatever it is, but real yohimbine extract will make me get the hot sweats, nausea, and sometimes even made me puke. I have no issues with Alpha-Y either.

Thanks Hyde! Saw something that some philosopher said life doesn't really start until 40. I'm already past that point, but I like that perspective as I get older/more middle aged.

See, I'm the opposite. I am fine with Yohimbine HCL, no go with Alpha-yo.

Well Smash AMF supposedly had something "else" in there. But all that said, it does list 2.5 mg of Yohimbine. But this fel liike Alpha Yo for me, and that dose would line up more with Alpha Y.

Well, last night was another one of those where my daughter kept waking up every 2 hours. So needless to say, wasn't a great night's sleep. But figured everyone got up and woke me up, might as well get my last WO in for the week...

Notes:

Supplements:
Finished up another tub of Total War. Have about 20 more, LOL, since I used to promote them. Still like the formula for a daily driver / standard preWO though.
Also finished up my ON creatine. Will be switching to ATP Elite next week.
Klout and MultiXT will both be done early next week, so switching to Rule1 EAA9. On to the next MultiXT as I bought a 3 pack.

Training/dieting approach:
Unsure if i want to keep up with the surplus of cals or if I should switch to trimming down soon. So many of you on those fasts! But I also have a ton of fat burners, including Lean GLP and Napalm Xtreme, plus my usuals like TTA & MitoburnXT in the cabinet. And I've got something else fun coming my way soon to test out.

But... i also have some TD Andros and some leftover VL stuff calling my name. With an eye still towards a PL meet and needing to bring numbers up for Nov maybe I just stay on the gain train? I haven't started really trying to push my weight #s yet on any of my lifts and I know that extra weight will help with leverages. Might make sense though to save these for the month leading up to the meet.

Interested in your switch from ON Creatine to ATP Elite. I'm almost done with my Creatine HCL tub, you've got me intrigued...

The way to use PEDs for untested strength competition is to simply peak exposure with the training. They belong closest to the contest, and if there are different amounts in different phases then the greatest escalation should be at the end, when output matters most.
