S23 is for people on testosterone. It is very suppressive. You are not on TRT right? If not, do not crash your test for that.
GW is a great option to improve metabolic health and a bit of caloric expenditure while sedentary. It is not a hormone; it’s a PPAR agonist.
You need to stop picking the scab. You have a bulging disc or something that is pressing on a nerve; you must get the inflammation down. It cannot do that with you just continually loading it.
I know it’s cute to say I have a son I have to take care of him, but you’re sabotaging your recovery by continually loading the inflamed area unnecessarily. I have a toddler. I have blown my back out more than once, and rehabbed it. Last time was June of 21, my son was 5 months old and I was trying to meet prep while bending over 9 million times a day to lift my son everywhere, off and on the floor, changing table, crib. Back totally just gave up on some deadlifts a month out from the meet. I was just trying to do to much with it and push through. I had to spend months to heal and rebuild.
You need to keep your kids alive, that’s it. Everything beyond that is optional & ideal, so really ask yourself if you MUST lift them onto the bench or if you have to bend over for anything. You are hurt. If you stay so messed up you are bedridden, that’s even less useful than not being able to tie shoes. Get that kid some crocs and make him put them on himself. Toss them a sandwich, or ask the wife to set something out for them. This is kind of tongue in cheek, but also not. If the plane is going down, you must put your oxygen mask on first so that you can stay conscious to help assist your family. You’re no good out of commission.
While you are in bed, look up the McGill Big 3. Take at least 3 short walks a day, ideally about 10 minutes or before pain becomes an issue (don’t pick the scab!), and get the pain to calm down. Walking and practicing bracing will help get and keep you out of pain so you can get back to running your household ASAP.
