New Start!!!!

Head Nurse

hi everone, I know this has nothing to do with training but I just wanted to share some great and exciting news. I have officially left the nursing field!!!! As of the 30th I will be an Administrative Assistant in an architature company!!! it's a great strong company with good people, advancement options, and good pay. Not to mention that the hours are alot better so I can start back with my training. Plus it'll be 15min from the new house (when it's finished) and it ties in with the degree that I'm working on! :woohoo:

Congrats! It must be exciting to be able to find a job in a field that you are obviously interested in. What kind of degree are you working on now?

A BA in Business Admin....
I found I was going to need it for my future goal - which is on the back burner while I finish school.

Truth be known I am alittle scared... after all these years as a nurse I have ALOT of "what if"....but it's all good thou

Congrats on the new job. I'm also a nurse and currently am working toward my ACSM cert for personal training. While i don't especially like nursing myself(however the ER can be fun at times), at least i can supplement my income/life with my true passion training.....and who knows if all goes well the sky is the limit. Good luck with the new job :D

With all the ups and downs (more downs then anything) over the last few years and hitting nursing burnout thing (15 years in the field) it really got me to thinking about where I was and where I wanted to be......I call this 'Life Restructure 101'
I thank you all for your encouragement and for you that are going into nursing "don't do it!!!!!!" just kidding I wish you luck! We can do anything we wish do we just have to have bllind faith and go for it - we are all stronger then we think....

Words of wisdom people.....yes it's a good profession, yes there is decent money, and most of all yes you WILL burn out! I guess it's one of those things you have to experience it to believe....but i'd bet the farm you will.

good for you!! im so jealous.... im just starting my program and am dying..... its gonna be a long two years before i can even begin!

Congratulations Head Nurse on the life restructuring.

Guys and Gals, just remember that we all need more nurses. There's a reason why it causes so much burnout, supply is in high demand and supply is low.

Let me stand on my soapbox for a minute...
Nursing is a noble profession and good way of life IF you are suited for it. 15 years ago being a nurse was just that, you nursed people back to health. I have seen & been a part of the changes going on in the medical world. My burnout is simplly that I'm tired. Arizona has tons of negitive nursing issues and is governed by a board that seems more concerned over politics then the people we take care of. I have seen alot and been a part of alot and to nursing I am thankfull for those experiences. I say if you want to be a nurse "More power to you!" but please make sure you are doing it for the right reasons!!! Ask yourself why you want to be a nurse - if your reasons are money, power, or prestege....DON'T DO IT!!! more often then not when you first start the money will suck, you have no power over anything but have TONS of responseablity instead, and prestege well it's alittle hard to feel it when you are elbows deep in some foul smelling - evil looking - possiblly deadly goo. Make sure that you truely want to help & care for the sick at any & all costs because being a nurse takes some VERY high fees from you and your life.....

Are you a nurse now? Why would you go into nursing when you have a Masters in Edu?? This is interesting, care to share?

Congrats HN. Best of luck to you! I may be starting a new job as well, but in the same field I'm already in.

It is interesting,....I like to help people, I have spent many days, nights in the hospitals with my own issues as well as my other job....i teach full time, i have that, I bartend, and i have my CDL(drive limos).....I also coach for the special olympics, and i am a wish granter, (not all at once)....But i want to experience it all, I dont ever want to be in something because I have to, so I like to have several doors to choose from so to speak..........

Being a wish granter for terminally ill kids was the sadest thing ever for me, spending so much time with sick kids, seeing what nurses do and how hard they work.......It;s not about the money for me, its about what I want to do, I work many jobs now so when I am older I wont have to...........nursing was always something i thought maybe.....and now being around it, having some friends who are nurses, i think why not.........

I think it will be in the long run. I'm going back to a department where I have a lot of friends, with family close by.

I wish the best for you....it sounds like a nice change - a needed change?

If anyone has concerns or questions about nursing or you just want someone to talk to - let me know I love to talk hehehe

Yeah, it's mostly a needed change. I'm not going to be making much more money, but the working environment will be most welcomed.

exactly why i choose to go into the dental hygiene program instead.... good money from day one...l. no yucky stuff (mouth stuff doesnt bother me although many people would disagree with me on that), no late nights......

dont get me wrong, i love nurses, they are essential, but its just not up my alley. nursing degrees like dental hygiene are not fun degrees to get......
