I've had asthma all my life and I'm a college sprinter in pretty good shape and alway Been able to keep it under control. But recently I've decided I want off my albuteral and advare. I'm tired of taking all these drugs and still only controlling it. I've decided I want to completely rid myself of it through diet and natural supplements.

So I'm weening off the drugs and taking some herbs my mom used to give me as a kid that helped me. They are Ginger and aloe vera juice. I was hoping I could get some more ideas from my friends at AM on other things that could help me on my path of curing my asthma. Thank you brothers.

Yes, Bosellia extract and also try Pau D'arco. I also notice that when I eat garlic it seems to help a little bit as well.

Thanks those look good. I've also heard turmeric and magnesium are good aswell.

Ginger, aloe Vera, garlic, turmeric, magnesium,Bosellia extract,Pau D'arco. So far looks like a great list of things that could help thanks guys.

Not sure if it's possible, but moving to Arizona could help. My wife has asthma, and she's always the most at ease in warm, dry air. That said, since going on advair and singulair, she doesn't have asthma or allergies anymore.

Thanks brother all info is appreciated. I've heard good things about singular how does she like it compared to the other ones out now.

Please keep the ideas flowing guys. I'm trying to get as much ammo as possible.

I've had asthma my whole life but it's never been exercised induced. When I was a child I endured what seemed to be endless nights of breathing through a straw. But I found out it probably had a lot to do with the house I grew up in. It was a 18th century home and had lots of molds and who knows what else. When I got out of that house I improved drastically. And as time went on my asthma started to improve. You probably have, but if you haven't get allergy tested. There could be something in your environment contributing to your problem.

For asthma growing up I took breathe aid from natures way. I remember mixing it with apple sauce when I was really small cause I couldn't swallow. LOL. It had ephedrine and guaifenesin. When the ephedrine scare blew up and they took all supplements off the market that contained ephedrine. I was really pissed cause that was my life line. It worked extremely well and you can't find products as good as that now. The only thing you can get from the pharmacy is Bronkaid. Other pharmacies might call it a different name. I get mine at walgreens. You have to ask the pharmacy for it and sign a form. It has the same ingredients but a different form of ephedrine. They say a "safer" one.

so now for brief bouts of asthma I use bronkaid. It does the job and their natural ingredients. My biggest trigger is cats. Mold and environmental and then some foods.

So brokaid is good for opening up the lungs and getting the junk out but that doesn't solve it all. It only treats the symptom. curing your asthma doesn't seem possible, once you have it that's it. I might not have a asthma attack for a few years but I can always get one by being around my triggers.

NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine) is a MUST.

Just a googled link here on it's benefits.

Since asthma is a inflammatory disease you want to eat foods that fight inflammation and or reduce inflammation. You can easily do a search for this information.

Some anti-inflammatory supplements are tumeric, resveratrol and especially the omega 3 fatty acids. So fish oil should be a staple too.

Sorry for taking a minute to get back to you. My wife's weird in that she's one of the few people whose allergies completely stopped with Singulair. Not only that, but she hasn't take it in a year and it still works. She can be around cats now and it doesn't bother her. Hell, she even smokes and hasn't used her inhaler except maybe 2x last year. I definitely recommend trying it. It's apparently very different from person-to-person, but it may work for you.

My asthma has been really bad lately surprisingly. When I workout hard my chest has been in incredible pain and I cannot breathe! I've been having a slight wheez for the last month but it's no big deal till I get my heart rate up. I did a experiment. I combined one bronkaid cap with one 200mg ibuprofen and the difference was night and day. My workouts are amazing now. I wear a heart rate monitor and my heart rate is much lower and controllable now. Before I could not control it and the pain was very intense. Also I was cramping really bad and having muscle tremors. It's insane the difference a little oxygen can make!!! LOL. I feel soo much better it's ridiculous. I hope this is just a seasonal issue and not the sign of a chronic issue with age.

I've heard reducing inflammation in general can help with asthma. Resveatrol, circumin combo works wonders for reducing inflammation.

The chiropractor will help as well- a lot of times asthma can have something to do with the curvature of your spine or your neck. I have a pretty similar background- I was a competitive sprinter in track (ran in open meets vs. a lot of different schools), plus I played football for a number of years as well. About 5 years ago, I was going up for a pass in the back of the end zone, and the DB undercut me instead of going for the ball (got there late). He spun me in the air, and I ended up coming down on the back of my neck, with all of my weight on top of me. I got right back up, and it was sore for a few days after, and then the very next week, I got hit really hard catching a pass across the middle, and it ended up being really sore in the same area. The soreness went away, but I began to encounter a lot of alignment issues (sore feet and hips), and my head seemed to want to hand slightly to the left side, but not enough to really notice. My CV endurance from that point went down steadily, and I couldn't figure out why, and I have had asthmatic issues ever since. I just figured it was lung function, so I had that tested, and nothing was wrong. They ran some other tests, and prescribed me albuterol and Advair, and that was it. They helped, but I still had the underlying issue.

Fast forward 5 years- I no longer run competitive track or play football, but I do play basketball 5 times a week. I should have no issues with wind, yet I still run out of gas pretty quickly- I usually run circles around everybody for the first couple games, and then have a lot of issues after that. My wife and I have some friends that are both chiropractors, so we went in and got x-rays. Turned out that I had a torn ligament in my neck that had never healed, and I didn't even know it :) The way my spine was aligned due to the tear shifted my airway and impinged on an area of nerves that controls respiration. After three weeks of treatments, I feel 100% better. My wife runs marathons, and has a lot of asthmatic symptoms as well, and since she started getting adjusted, they have pretty much gone away as well.

There are some exercises you can do as well that will open up your airway more- pm me and I can elaborate.....

When I have any issues with breathing, my first route is with chomping down RAW garlic.
Next I always combine with some Cayenne Pills and ginger.

Also, for what its worth, the mushroom supplement Cordyceps has been shown to increase your oxygen absorption by 40%.
All my friends that are congested or have breathing issues (from smoking mainly) have seen some drastic improvements once they started taking Cordy, esp for workouts.
So maybe do some research into that area if interested.

We hear a lot of the same things about Drive- it contains a pretty large dose of cordy....

I will have to look into Drive. Im curious if it contains an extract or ground mycelia.

It is extracted for NLT 7% Cordyceptic Acid; NLT 0.3% Adenosine

thats probably why magnesium works. I know when I was little I had asthma. Turned out there was black mold growin in my mattress. Ever since then Asthma no more.

Mold and cats are the worst triggers for my asthma.

I made a appointment with a pulmonologist today because this is getting out of hand. I played 2 hours of basketball friday night and I couldn't even talk. I was sooo dizzy and lathargic. I pushed myself through it but felt aweful. I've never used a inhaler before or any drugs but at this point I'll try whatever because it's really affecting my workouts. There's no way I'm gonna shed fat for the summer if I can't do the hard cardio sessions that I need too.

A paleo diet would help and worth a try. Not only will your asthma clear up but your immune system will strengthen and you will feel all around better

Got prescribed Singulair (pill) and Flovent (Inhaler) today from the doc. Singulair seems to be a leukotriene inhibitor so I'm searching for natural alternatives for that. I don't really know why the doc wants me to take two things. I'm weary about the corti-steriods. With a history of anxiety and insomnia I don't need anything reving me up. Some opinions from you guys would be great.

I found this study on pubmed about the combination of Boswellia serrata, licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) and Tumeric root (Curcuma longa)
