So Ive been goin to a planet fitness for the time being, untill I go to golds in the spring, but it seems different than the typical planet fitness..There are big dudes, dumbells up to 120 pounds, tons of free weights, and everybody drops weights and grunts...plus nobody has gotten spoken too!! I know PF is considered a ***** gym, but this one has a hardcore vibe to it..

Haha where is this one located? All of the ones around me (northeast Pennsylvania) are filled with cardio machines and dumb bells up to 65lbs max.

I'm also from NEPA and i'm totally boycotting any planet fitness, it's a gym for ppl to go to to say they go to the gym and feel happy about that, it's not a gym for results, i sent them e-mails about this but it's pointless, i liked being the smallest guy in the gym, it drove me to research a lot more and modify my workouts to get better results, planet fitness is judge free, blah the judgement helps if your serious about getting in shape

That's cool to hear. My gym recently got bought by PF. I've been there twice since they changed things, but I don't think I'll last. They got rid of a ton of free weights and cable racks for cardio machines and the "Ab Section". I used to have a pretty cool gym...

Its great for females that are looking to drop weight and people who need machines for rehabbing purposes.
Also, the one near me has a free squat and smith machine ...
So it has its purpose just like the hardcore gyms have their purpose...nobody but the person who is going pays the bill for themselves so where do I have an opinion?
I feel that if you don't like it then don't go.
That being said, there are to many treadmills and I do not like the tickets they had out for dropping weights (yes the one here hands out tickets) after so many, you get suspended for a determined amount of time ...

my buddy got his contract terminated the first day he signed up for grunting to loud with heavy weights, they also have pizza night at the planet fitness near my house

I couldnt agree with ya more... Where in PA are you from? I live in a town about 6 miles south of Scranton.

I hate PF, highest DB's they had were 65, couldnt even get in a decent chest or back workout.. And no grunting, what a joke...

I've heard a lot of bad things about PF. Two in our area shut down with no notice - were even taking new members in the day before. Fortunately, I go to a real gym, owned by a guy who lifts, even holds powerlifting comps there from time to time.

My gym has a lot of free weights, db's up to only 100 though :( and they cry if it even sounds like you are throwing a weight. Kinda of ridiculous but it's a good gym other than that. I go to Champion fitness.

I'll never forget when I walked into Planet Fitness. I didn't know much about them at the time, so I went in to ask questions. A guy took me on a tour of the place. It was insanely dark in there! I couldn't believe people would want to workout in the dark, though I didn't see anyone using the weights. After showing me around we were heading back to the front and he told me the "rules" . I said, "are you being serious?" He said, "yeah" and then went on to tell me that you didn't have to make a whole bunch of noise to get big. I told him good day and walked out. I wanted to punch him in the face for wasting my time.

I would just go there and grunt as loudly as possible and then when they tell me to leave just be like "HOOOOORAHHH!" and keep lifting.

LOL when I was in college i was doing heavy DB presses and grunting, so the guy walked over to me and started yelling at me to stop (somehow I heard him over my music) so I dropped the 100s or whatever they were on the floor because my set was ruined. I guess they took that as me going after him because next thing i saw was all the pencilnecks about to charge me. I got kicked out but then came back the next day and nobody said $hit hahahaa

I can't stand being interrupted in the middle of a set. A ruined set always makes me want to hurt somebody. Like wait until I'm done to give me a lecture, or talk to me.

I checked out a PF once. Never made it past the front area, as I noticed the cooler was full of sports rehydration-type drinks, but no protein. Confused, I asked the morbidly obese college girl behind the counter, where did they keep their protein shakes? Her reply was something along the lines of, we aren't that kind of gym, only "bodybuilders" would want protein shakes, and we don't want that type of riffraff here.

See ya later, tubby!
