I started pulling them up one by one but they just come back. It looks like they have little mini onions on the end of them

Not sure if there are any members on here with a green thumb, if so help a brotha out and tell me how to kill these things! :ar15firing:

ehh... Wild guess on Allium schoenoprasum, not sure you guys have it like we have it here in Sweden.. But they have mini-onions as a root, and gets a flower when they are fully mature..

Check it out:

Those are simply wild onions my friend. I have tons of them in my yard as well. I just mow them with the rest of the grass., it makes your yard smell like fresh cut onions when you do.:D

To get rid of em, it looks like you need to treat your lawn better.

If your grass has a deep root structure then nothing else will be able to grow.

I see the onion, clover, and a dead grass underbrush. Personally i would nuke it, till it, seed it, scotts starter fertilizer, straw. Water daily. Treat the lawn in spring and winter and the root structure will grow deep and thick and wont allow any type of weed to grow.

Wild onions.... we call 'em "ramps" 'round these parts! They can actually be eaten. Guy I work with here pickles them. They'll DEFINITELY keep the ladies hangin' on ya. ;)

I'd go with what Dadams said, or just spray the whole lawn down with Weed-n-Feed. That usually does the trick to kill everything but the grass.

thanks.. we just moved into this house about a year and half ago and it was bare. No grass what so ever so I got a spreader and a bag of grass seeds and spread them around and we got grass. Some spots are super thick while others are patchy but along with the grass came these damn onions

Since I can't really nuke it what should I put on this to kill it all?

Any specific brands or products anyone can recomend? I am clueless with all this stuff :dunno:

When my yard was as bad as this, I sprayed them with Roundup the first year. Afterwards I use Weed & Feed every spring. It got rid of everything I didn't want. This year the clover finally stop growing. Last year I used Weed & Feed plus, kills ants, well without the ants the army worms started killing my lawn.

I personally like scotts for fertilizer. Get a couple bottles spray weed killer and just make sure you get the stuff that kills the wild onion and I would also get one that takes care of crab grass as there has to be some of that **** mixed in.

Do you know what flavor of seed you got? It looks to be a medium thickness blade, but I cannot tell the actual species.

What type of climate are you in? I could probably point you in the direction of a good fertilizer to get you grass to take hold? If you fertilize 2 - 3 times a year, your **** will be lush, and it is quite cheap.

Dont remember the seed I got, but it was tractor supply if that helps any? I dont have the seeds anymore BTW so if I need to put more seeds down I will have to go buy some more if you can let me know which one would be best.

As for climate I am in Jersey.

Let me know your recomendations Adams and I will follow! Thanks :D

Yeah, I cannot tell form the image on the picture. as long as your grass is at least patchy all over, you can kill the weeds and give the grass room to spread out.

Get some Turf Builder with Step 2 Weed killer/Control. And give that a spread immediately and sometime in the middle of summer. Water daily.

In the fall get some Turf builder with wintergard and Step 2 weed control.

With that you should be able to make it start looking healthy this year. Then next year you can assess any spots that wont get any grass to grow naturally and till and seed it. Next year it should come full on glorious from the beginning.

And I cant tell you which one since I dont know the original species... so you dont want one that is bluegrass, and one that is zoysia.

See what you can do with what you have for sure. Regardless, fertilizing now will build your soil even in the future if you do want to nuke and replant.
