Yeah, my quads were toast the rest of the day. Just heavy legs...I’ve always wondered that myself, why you don’t burn more on a bike, because it’s definitely draining, especially with hills.![]()
Yeah definitely, and I enjoy them as well as finding them very effective. That would be great if you can Frontsquat! Like you said, squats are completely unnecessary in general for big legs. They’re awesome, but so is all the other stuff you can do well when you’re not crippled by nerve pain!
Good question, I haven't tried it. My suspicion is that it probably would not help since nerve related, but might be worth a shot. Unfortunately, I just ran out of Helios or I would have used that. I think a localized antiinflammatory is probably going to be better rubbing it around that area of the neck. I do have a muscle rub that has some menthol, and some EMU oil in it, and that would probably be worth a shot. Good thinking.does a localized topical like icyhot help to relieve it at all?
some people have good luck with cbd based as well. I had one with a minty (menthol?) icy hot vibe that seemed to help. of course I don't know if it was the cbd or the icy hotness that numbed the area but my aunt in law uses one for her neuropathy in her feet. she feels like it doesn't work every time, but more than half the time (enough to keep buying it)I do have a muscle rub that has some menthol, and some EMU oil in it, and that would probably be worth a shot. Oh yeah, that reminds me, I do have some of the APEX Alchemy - RELAX left. I can give that a shot too.some people have good luck with cbd based as well. Sounds like a bummer on the wheel studs, I had that happen once on my pickup and no idea what caused it.Had a decent weekend and couple of days off, but it started out crappy. As we were leaving for Arkansas Friday after work I notice a weird wobble. I pull of the road and my studs on my rear wheel broke. I only had 2 left. It ended up costing me some money because I wasn't even going to try to wrench that job with my neck / back. So I had to pay someone to do it.
Since Mom is here. We took her out to eat a couple times, and she made homemade cinnamon rolls for us. I haven't weighed but I am sure I am somewhere between 208-212.
I went ahead and took the weekend to just relax from everything. No diet, no gym, just as much rest, and relaxation as possible, and plenty food to go along with the inactivity! It was worth it, My neck / back recovered enough for me to give the gym a shot today.
Today I wanted to push things hard enough to let me know if I was right about what I think is causing most of the issues but still stay careful. So I stuck with push because I feel it is the least likely to cause an issue, and then used mostly machines, and went to 3RIR on most sets 2RIR on others. I didn't try to memorize my weights or anything but I counted reps just so I knew how many reps I was losing per set.
Hammer Strength Incline Press - 10-20 rep range - 70 x3RIR, 3RIR, 2 RIR in the
Iso-lateral Shoulder Press x3rir, 3rir, 2rir
Dips 15, 12, 8
Machine Side Delt Raise x3rir, 2rir, 2rir
DB Curls 20x2RIR, 2rir, 2 rir
Triceps Press - 160 x2RIR, 2rir, 2rir
I had a massive pump today, was a cool day at the gym. Everything felt good, and I had a compliment, and then a copycat which was interesting and flattering. One of the guys around my age came up to me just to compliment me. He asked if I was a bodybuilder, and if not did I used to be, because I look like I could compete. Hell Yeah!
Then when I was in the sauna doing my ab / core stuff in there a younger kid saw what I was doing and then started doing it to. Then when I started doing something else he started trying to do what I was doing also. When he started the third thing I started, I decided to help him get it right and keep his hips rigid if he was going to mimic me. Young overweight kid in his 20's just willing to do something to fix his situation. Was cool he looked at me and thought hey whatever this guy is doing he looks like he knows his ****. I'm gonna do that. Pretty flattering. I have to admit I was feeling myself today, just thick and veiny. Saw some new veins in my right shoulder today and the veins in my left were just bulging when I was doing curls.
I am getting more and more motivated to really turn up the heat on the diet just not at 100% commitment level yet. When I do I am going full transformation mode and am going to go full barrel until I feel I am at a good place to start eating at maintenance then push up gear and let the growth lean me out the last bit before increasing calories beyond that. More than likely this begins mid to late October.
Hoping that tonight goes well and I don't end up in massive pain in the middle of the night. I think I am okay from how I feel right now. Tomorrow may be a fasting day, or I may go ahead and give legs a shot depending on how good tonight goes. If any aggravation I will fast if not I will do legs.
Even though I have relaxed eating over the weekend has not changed my goals but while Mom is here I do expect slower progress due to "Momma showing love meals" where not eating would be offensive. She likes to show her love with cooking and gets her feelings hurt if I don't eat. She really loves me to death. Even brought a shirt with her to wear that says "My Son-In-Law is my favorite child!" So, I will probably end up giving in a little more than I should to keep her smiling, but I will at a minimum maintain over the next 2 weeks. If I can train hard maybe I grow a tiny bit.

I agree, we have to be ambassadors for the lifting community since we are so obviously a part of it. All of my life I have always heard "Wow, Man I thought you are going to be an asshole or conceited, but you are so cool." after talking with someone, or them asking me a question. Unfortunately there is still a stigma that guys with muscles are inherently jerks. However most of the guys I know other than young idiots who tend to be that way anyway are quite the opposite. That’s cool that kid wanted to do what you did & that you helped him out - it’s important to share when it can make an impact!
My MIL loves to feed me as well! Especially right now while my wife is staying in the lightweight territory.
Yeah, I hope so. I do love to help people who are putting in the effort, if they are receptive to it of course.A good well timed rest always does you some good, and hey homemade cinnamon rolls can only help. Anytime someone asks if you compete that’s always one of those puff out your chest feel good complements, and then the young kid mimicking you again just feels good, and you never realize when you took the time to help how much impact you had on him.![]()
Yeah, I can think of better ways I could have spent the money. Probably better for my recovery though not spending the evening in the car.Sounds like a bummer on the wheel studs, I had that happen once on my pickup and no idea what caused it.
sounds like a good weekend and some good food and family, hard to beat that.
That’s awesome in the gym to be copied and asked if you are a bodybuilder! Good session too.
Yeah, luckily it was the rear. So at least if it had come off we were less likely to flip. When my son gave me his wheels we had to put a spacer in the back. According to the wheel place, and the internet the studs should have been okay with the spacers, but was right on the edge. So I am not sure if it had anything to do with that. However, just to be safe here pretty soon I am going to by an upgraded set of studs for both rear tires with a little extra threading to get nice and secure. Although, my son said it could be that the spacer was not perfectly straight and had just enough of a wobble to gradually break the lugs but not so bad it was obvious while driving. I never felt anything that felt off so who knows. Either way, that is going to be about 350 in lugs and some hours of work once this neck cools down. I won't pay for it again... Way too much. Heck, if my tires weren't so expensive I would probably just go back to stocks but I got 1600 worth of pretty new rubber on this thing.dude those wheel studs... that's scary ****!
awesome, coming back to life!! the lion getting ready to pounce again![]()
Yeah you have been through a lot lately, and dealing with the neck, trigger point issue, is tough to work around, but kudos for sticking to it. It’s definitely smart to take that extra day of rest so you don’t have a setback, and hopefully be able to continue to progress when you can workout. I’m a firm believer that if you’re able to build muscle around an injury or at least maintain it gives you more support and stability to hopefully help that area heal quicker. And we all know the more blood flow you can get into that area the quicker it can heal.I agree, we have to be ambassadors for the lifting community since we are so obviously a part of it. Speaking of recovery, great news, although my back did get very slightly triggered it was not too bad. Like only very slightly, and definitely not something that would make me think I should not be training that hard. However enough that I chose to give it another day of rest before pushing another lifting session. I would rather accumulate recovery than inflammation, so no need to push it. In all honesty I think if I can get in a decent session like yesterday once a week for every body part then I should be able to maintain muscle mass easily over the next several weeks.

Yeah, just been so many distractions, injuries, deaths, just a lot of life and I haven't been able to nail down my motivation for my goals. Don't get me wrong, I am actually proud of myself for just keeping plugging away even though I can't seem to get a lot of traction right now. Obviously I will be more proud once I am locked in and killing it, but I have to give myself credit where it is due. I would normally get frustrated and throw my hands up by now and I haven't. So I am focusing on that, and not any of the negative.
Since I did have a tiny reaction in my trigger point to the training yesterday; I will be fasting today, and doing cardio during lunch. I think giving the spine another day to reduce any inflammation, I should be able to hit lower body tomorrow, and see how that goes. I imagine it should go well. I think I will stick to leg press for multiple sets tomorrow and avoid Hacks for another week just to see how things go without any weight bearing down on the spine. I do want to try front squats too, but that is going to be once the upper back cools down just a bit more. It is so upper back intensive I want to feel more recovered before giving those a shot.
Yep, getting that blood in there is a good idea.Yeah you have been through a lot lately, and dealing with the neck, trigger point issue, is tough to work around, but kudos for sticking to it. I’m sure it would help, I actually need to try it for my neck. They truly are amazing compounds.
Bpc is probably more effective then tb for that issue. I've seen lots of stuff on bpc for ruptured disc and herniated disc but idk anything about doses/duration and injection location for that. If you only have that 1 bottle I'd save it for something else or get more. I wish I had more on hand but I just used my last 2 bottles on my knees
Thanks I will go have a look at that.I’m sure it would help, I actually need to try it for my neck. They truly are amazing compounds.
Here is a study on rats, I know it’s rats, but BPC was beneficial in compressed spinal chords in this study, as they were researching the central nervous system.

Makes sense, I may order some more HELIOS, or the X-Gels equivalent. I also have an EMU oil rub at home. It works pretty well just has a wintergreen kind of scent to it. I guess if it helps I can smell funny for a little but, I know the HELIOS has a smell to it anyway.I don’t believe so at normal doses, because they deal more with accelerating tissue repair (connective for BPC & muscular more so for TB500). That being said, BPC has some anti-inflammatory properties I THINK, but I suspect you would want to try larger (cost-prohibitive) amounts.
Honestly, in addition to oral ibuprofen and Curcumin use, local transdermal Curcumin over the spine is what I would be adding. Plus some heat there at other times to use bloodflow to also help flush inflammation.
Helios by Apex or whatever that new one is by X-Gels, Curcuprime maybe? Helios always helps a bit with local application for me.

Funny, my wife actually kind of likes the smell of Helios, well at least a lot better than Icy Hot, so that works out for me.Funny smells that actually work > dicking with expensive injections and praying dosage is useful somehow
Yeah, no doubt. I am going to put that on my nightstand to help remind me to have the wife put it on every night. Have her try the RELAX CBD TD on me in the morning.Funny smells that actually work > dicking with expensive injections and praying dosage is useful somehow
Unfortunately my wife is not a fan of the smell of APEX products, but she will still put them on me. I don't know that she finds one more offensive than the other because I know she doesn't like the smell of any liniment either. The spearmint or whatever scent of the EMU oil and other ingredients product I have seems to be the one she finds the least offensive. However like I said, she supports me in using them, and even reminds me to use them. She was putting HELIOS on me until I ran out so I just need to bring the other stuff to her.Funny, my wife actually kind of likes the smell of Helios, well at least a lot better than Icy Hot, so that works out for me.![]()
I bet you did have a good pump after that leg workout, that was some good high rep volume, and good weight on the Leg Press with the high reps. And finished off with some arms and shoulders, that’s a good workout.Unfortunately my wife is not a fan of the smell of APEX products, but she will still put them on me. 8/24/23 - Morning Weight 208.5 - Abs looked better after dropping some water from the 39 hour fast.
Lower Body
Leg Press - Tempo 4-3-1-1 : 555x17, 14, 12 : Serious quad stimulation, well overall upper leg stimulation for that matter but quads were annihilated.
DB Lunges (Quad Focus) - Tempo 4-1-1-0 : 20x2RIR, 20x2RIR, 20x2RIR : Legs were starting to get shaky already. Everything had a ridiculous Mind Muscle Connection. I think the extreme focus on only using the muscles involved not to brace with my neck or crane it forced a better connection.
35 Degree Hyperextension into GHR - Tempo 4-1-2-1 : BWx14, 12, 9 : Holy Hamstring! These engage the hams and give such a good stretch at the bottom. Just amazing contractions. I am sure they aren't bad for the glutes either.
Seated Calf / Soleus Raise - 2-2-2-2 : Rep Range 20-30 : 90x good burn x 2 sets
Super Set - 15-30 rep range - no rest between supersets
Preacher Curl - 65x2RIR x 3 sets - I noticed I needed to pull my shoulders back on this to avoid a little compression. Small but effective adjustment.
Triceps Ext Machine - 65x2RIR x 3 sets
Seated Side Raises - Rep Range 20-30
65x2RIR x 3 sets
I had a massive pump after this. I threw in some work for my high volume and frequency loving muscles that I know are not going to hurt me. IE... Arms and shoulders. Legs were trembling a little while standing for about 30 minutes after the workout, and feel spent right now. So, I know I got in a really good one.
I am not expecting any increase in pain or discomfort tonight, but will definitely ice it after dinner. I just tore up some tuna casserole my wife made. We use the no yolk egg noodles, low-fat cream of celery soup, and so much tuna in it that it is a great hearty meal with some good macros. I will cap tonight off with a fruit & protein smoothie and some cream of rice cereal. Get blood sugar to spike and drop quickly a little before passing out.
I am not going to do an extended fast tomorrow. I will do some fasted cardio in the morning, then have 1-2 meals later in the day to keep calories in a deficit.
Thanks, I really enjoyed working that hard and feeling challenged. I need that from the gym. I am actually really starting to get that itch to blast away, just need to learn what I can push on and get this growth train started soon.I bet you did have a good pump after that leg workout, that was some good high rep volume, and good weight on the Leg Press with the high reps. I had a few recent unexpected expenses that cut into my "hobby money"

Yeah, what was a nice budget with some decent wiggle room has gotten tight. I was all set to get whatever I needed to get me through the year before having all of this pop up. Just annoying.dude... so relatable. I can't believe how much more penny pinching we have to do lately vs 2 years ago and every surprise expense that pops up feels twice as painful.
man this is great, looks like you're getting back into the groove!
Corpus Christi has clearer water at their beaches, since it is not as close to where the Mississippi river dumps into the gulf churning up sediment and stuff. I haven't been down there in 25 years so not sure what else they have to do there now.that sounds awesome, Kemah has never even been on my radar all of my TX experience was basically Austin - Round Rock. Would you recommend Kemah or Galveston over Corpus Christi for out of town visitors like my wife and I? Visiting TX is a bucket list place for her so of course, we gotta go hit some traditional cowboy towns too. I really wanna come in from Albuquerque and catch a rodeo in Amarillo then head south personally lol
Heck Yeah but I found something even better. I got the Surf and turf option, 4 shrimp, lobster tail and an 8 oz sirloin steak. I added an add on of shrimp, scallions, and crab meat in a lemon butter and then kept my meal low carb other than a Rye Whiskey on the rocks. I just had 8oz chicken breast on sourdough with pickles and JB's sugar free sweet and spicy BBQ sauce, and one piece of digiorno minus the crust. Going to have a protein bar here in a minute and go lay down with the wife to wind down watching a movie in bed.Stuffed fish with crawfish cream sauce…that’s good livin’ right there
We just isolate as a family at my place. When I got it up north my client did not want me to test because they wanted to protect the project schedule. That’s partly why I got so run down I think - I didn’t rest when I should have.Morning everyone, about to start feeding for the day and get ready for a back session a little later. I can't lie, this one makes me nervous... It has potential to light me up, but I am hoping only direct spinal compression is the real trigger. Going to really have to work on keeping a neutral neck position when pulling, and hope that the protraction doesn't bother me.
Fingers crossed, both excited and nervous to test things out today!!!
Also a quick comment on condition, I manscaped the chest and arms and was able to see exactly where I am physique-wise. At 208 I look like I did about 205. Definitely not as lean as I was at 201, but obviously have grown some even with the training things one time a week, and around injuries. I give the credit to the additional test, and the creatine over the last month.
I also noticed some estrogen sides yesterday, and verified this morning that there is just the slightest bit of nipple sensitivity and can feel a little more to the mammary gland. So dropping in a touch of aromasin to combat that for now and now I know 200 is my limit without an AI or a DHT compound to balance out the androgen : estrogen ratio. @Hyde you were right on with your prediction on that.
Sage tested positive for COVID earlier in the week, and now JoAnn has a fever and all the symptoms. My MIL has a massive headache, an occasional cough and now a massively runny nose. So now everyone is confined to a room but me and my son. I was going to go to the gym to lift here shortly but I think I might tough it out in the garage just to be considerate of others. I am totally surrounded by COVID at this point, and am very affectionate with my wife, so I have definitely been exposed. This is gonna be a test for my immune system for sure. Especially since there is nowhere else for me to sleep now so I will be sleeping in bed with the wife. It's a big bed so not too worried about it. If I am not already infected then I am not too worried about getting sick, my immune system is doing it's job. If I am infected it is too late to do anything about it anyway. I guess if I did get infected then we at least could actually still spend time with Mom instead of keeping people separate. My wife is down and out from it right now though. The fever, headache and exhaustion hit her like a brick about 10:30 this morning. I will probably know something in the next 24 hours if I am going to have any symptoms.
Question for all of you guys, and opinions can differ without people getting offended as long as we respect the right for people to be different. How do you all treat covid in the home? Do you just treat like any other illness, or do you still isolate when sick? Just curious what the various ways are people choose to deal with it. At this point I am tempted to treat like any other illness and not ostracize my wife or MIL, but it sure does seem pretty communicable so was curious. Like even if my wife has strep, or the flu I sleep with her, and will kiss her goodbye or good night. I just limit those things a little more when she is sick. I trust my immune system that much, and it works out for me 90% of the time. I know at this point the rest of the family is not as relaxed about things as I tend to be because my immune system is a lot stronger than theirs. So isolation has been and probably will remain the practice in the house for a while because it isn't an argument I care to have. LOL
@BennyMagoo79 So no real avoiding one another even if some of you don't have it?We just isolate as a family at my place. When I got it up north my client did not want me to test because they wanted to protect the project schedule. That’s partly why I got so run down I think - I didn’t rest when I should have.
No we don’t bother any more! It’s impossible to isolate ourselves from our cuddly little kids, and they need even more cuddles when they are sick!@BennyMagoo79 So no real avoiding one another even if some of you don't have it?
Thanks! With my toddler there is so much exposure to whatever he has before we realize he has something that usually if he gets anything either me, my wife or stepdaughter will get it. Sometimes 3 of us 4. It’s not like we can stop taking care of him, and he will cough on you randomly or whatnot so you can’t prevent all exposure.
But we have had COVID as a family at least 2 times for sure, during the first strain and within the last 6 months I believe. We do not isolate from each other, but whoever is symptomatic will avoid going out in public. We will try not to kiss on the face while sick with anything, but we often forget. We treat COVID just like anything else, because the current iterations is the same or lesser now in effect than other viruses like the flu. It just sucks to be sick is all.
Okay, sounds like the three of us pretty much think the same on the subject. I can understand if only one person has it, try to avoid the others but we got 3/5 of us here infected, and my son just had it two weeks ago, so he should still have plenty antibodies, and then there's me.No we don’t bother any more! It’s impossible to isolate ourselves from our cuddly little kids, and they need even more cuddles when they are sick!
Man that’s a bummer everyone has gotten COVID. My wife and I have had it 3 times, from the first one in 2020 to the third one, each time has gotten easier. The last time we got it, which I think was last fall, it wasn’t much more than a bad cold with a fever for like a day. Actually we got a flu bug, last Thanksgiving, that was worse than any of the COVID variants, we both felt like we were dying, that was rough. I think we finally developed some kind of immunity to the newest COVID, because we’ve been around several people this year we found out later that had it. As much as you’ve been around your wife, you would probably have it already if you were going to get it.Morning everyone, about to start feeding for the day and get ready for a back session a little later. Plus... DRUM ROLL PLEASE... we could get together and maybe even lift if you wanted too. Shoot follow it up with a churrascaria!
I am selling it to you but being honest, unless you just want to be on the water or beach front the whole time there is such a huge variety of of things if you go to Galveston / Houston to keep you busy for a full vacation. Other than the beach there never really was a whole lot to South Padre compared to the 4rth largest city in the country which you might as well be in if you go to Galveston. If you really need clearer water at the beach then don't waste your time at Galveston because on its best day is is an emerald green because of everything that gets stirred up from the Mississippi delta.

Yeah, I haven't been to tons of other zoos in awhile but I know ours is highly rated and has been better than most I have been to in my adulthood. The aquarium at the Moody gardens is nice, it is like 2 million gallons of water, but nowhere near the size of what you talking about. I will definitely have to make that trip to see that some time!Man that’s a bummer everyone has gotten COVID. As much as you’ve been around your wife, you would probably have it already if you were going to get it.
Looking back on when you and your wife went to the aquarium, that’s become one of our favorite things to do, checking out aquariums and zoos when we visit other cities. The zoo here in Atlanta is ok, it’s nice but not very big for such a large city. Now the Georgia Aquarium is on a different level all together, it and the one in Tokyo are about the same size and are the largest aquariums in the world. The tank where the Whale Sharks are is the largest single tank in the world. It’s the size of a football field, and you can go scuba diving and swim with the Whale Sharks. The largest is about 30’ long and is a beautiful animal, but my favorite fish there are the Tiger Sharks. The largest Tiger is 16’, and no they won’t let you swim with those, nor would I want to. But anybody visiting Atlanta I tell them you have to check out the Aquarium as well as checking out some of the good food. The only city we’ve ever been to in Texas was Dallas, and had a great time. We loved the food….the TexMex, Barbecue, Chili, and Steaks were all great.![]()
Yeah, it isn't just like mud unless we have had a lot of bad weather running off.Dude of course if I'm there I'm going to hit you up!
It sounds a lot like how the puyallup river feeds into Commencement Bay in Tacoma. it's just looks like mud to be honest. the whole area isn't that bad but for a couple miles its not appealing at all.
I just treat it like any other cold. If I thought the wife had it I'd probably make her comfortable on the couch and get Pho, make sure we are topped off on elderberry, vitamin D, C, Zinc, maybe echinacea, Gatorade, and of course bourbon and I would make her hot toddies. I wouldn't stop living a normal life unless my symptoms were gross enough to feel like you're sneezing and snotting all over the place![]()
the only guy in our office to get the jab (a bunch of them) was the last one to get covid and by far had the worst experience.I have a hypochondriac in the office with me who would have been freaking out anyway.
I will be canceling the PF membership once I sign up over at the new place tomorrow which kind of sucks because I do like the massage chairs and tanning bed. Either way, I am excited to check the new gym out, and see if the hype on the Arsenal stuff is legit.
Yeah the PF Black membership comes with tanning bed access, deep tissue massage chairs and a hydro massage bed which are pretty cool.at first I was like... massage chairs and tanning beds... DYEL at PF?
But I just remembered my first gym membership dad got me when I was 16. I'd drive and meet him there around 5:30am then he'd shower and go to work from the gym, I'd head back home and get ready for school. They had tanning beds, the price $2.50 for a tan if you were a member ha.
Yeah, I have seen some of their stuff on some of the RP videos where he seems to give them a lot of praise. Going to be heading over there shortly to check things out.The Arsenal stuff I saw the other weekend was pretty cool man, I bet you will like some of it.
