Hyde’s Strength Odyssey

Nice work! Haven’t benched due to more event-specific training or some injury?

Been bringing up my overhead some over the last year, & unless you’re just flat out gaining weight/size if you chase two rabbits you tend to end up with neither. Gf has been programmed to incline bench the last 7 weeks so I did it with her, then we have been strict pressing another day.

Great lift, and love it when you get to play with 300+ especially when it goes real well!

I bet you are going to look pretty damn good at 220!

300 felt better in hand than 275 - just not used to holding that much with the incline work, so I expect more will come as I readjust to the specifics.

Gotta get all this birthday bloat off first!!

I really need to spend the money on a nice Dead lift bar... it may end up being the only lift out of the big 3 that I can really push hard. Might be nice to have a good bar for it. I love my Texas Power Bar but it barely bends at all even with 575 on it....

That's the one specialty bar that I must get whenever I (hopefully) end up getting my home gym once I finally get a job. A TPB, texas or rogue deadlift bar, and maybe a football bar for NG pressing and other random **** is about all i think I would need. A ssb or duffins new bar would be cool, but i think I could do without.

Nice yankin Clayton.

There’s a solid 3/4in you get off a Tex DL bar - for me I’m good for 15 more lbs with one probably on most pulls and a good 25lb more for a truly max grinder single. I can really make that inch work for me.

Thank you sir! I do like the Tex more than the Rogue - Rogue’s has annoyingly sharp knurling but not as much flex. SSB is nice when the shoulders need a break if really pushing the pressing mainly.

That transformer bar? I’ve been drooling over getting that or a Duffalo Bar. They got financing!

Yeah it is a huge difference and I don't want anything with a ridiculous knurl either. I don't need it and it just makes my callouses feel like that are being ripped loose and sometimes they do rip a little on the bars with more knurling. No thanks!!!!

That transformer bar? I’ve been drooling over getting that or a Duffalo Bar. They got financing!

Now I am going to have to look up what that bar is...

Duffin is the man. MrKleen73 it’s the transformer bar made by kabuki. Acts as a camber, ssb, and Duffalo Bar. Pretty sweet lookin.

One of their most affordable bars too actually. Don’t know that it works like a duffalo but certainly a fun accessory bar with maximal variability.

I will eventually invest in either a cambered squat bar or SSB, whichever fits the budget...

...I've had no issues with my Rogue (boneyard) DL bar...my fed uses an Okie, and the Rogue seems to replicate it fairly well...grip is insane, and have yet to tear a callus or run into grip issues... tho like most DL bars, it still beats the mittens up pretty bad.

Yeah I don’t think it would be very duffaloey without the curve, but they claim it mimics the mechanics of a Duffalo Bar.

Our Tex bars have zero knurling on them anyway at this point - too many schmoes using straps on them have destroyed the grip, but they are still smaller diameter than a power bar at least.

Okie used to make incredible deadlift bars - the old ones were nuts. The 2 old ones I have used I could get 30+ out of them. But the new ones are way more tame, unfortunately. The Rogue reminds me of it as well, the newer Okie.

Also, cycle update: the 40mg of Var is finished, Osta is cut from 20mg down to 10 til it runs out this weekend, bumping OL DMZ from 40 to 60mg & OL 11kt to 3-4 full pumps/day to use it up. Androhard will continue on around 8 pumps/day and I will also finish off the 17 remaining 2mg caps of Boladiol I have been using here and there preWO. It’s very wet and provides a euphoric rage so things could get interesting this last week!

I just went and looked at it! Pretty cool!

I could see where it might have similar center of gravity in the center position but yeah not exactly the same.

I didn't look at the price when I looked at this but if the same or less than The YOKE SSB then I would probably opt for this instead. However now that I have dropped that kind of dough on that I can't really justify this bar. Maybe if I get to where I can front squat either then it might be worth another purchase.

Musclegelz Androhard finally ran out after like 9 weeks of about 8 pumps per day - tomorrow will be the last of it.

I cannot express how satisfied I am with that product. Esterfied transdermal Androsterone and Epiandrosterone that provides hours and hours of energy, libido, drive, well-being, as well as hardening. Many days I just used 6 pumps once in the morning and g2g. 2+ months of product for like $50. This was 100% a product I bought myself after seeing Heavy Iron review it sponsored last year and man was it a great purchase. Will definitely use again.

Nice work, is that more of a strong man type of support belt? How does it feel? I literally only have 1.5 inches between the top of my hip bones and my lower rib... no waist at all so regular belts always bruise my lower ribs and hips pretty bad so I will only use them on really heavy sets to an RPE9 or above. If I put 2 fingers on my hip the top finger actually touches the lower rib... it's ridiculous. I use a deadlift belt in training which is 3 inches and more flexible but if that one is nice and supportive it looks like it might not cut into those areas as much on me.

It’s a Rehband neoprene soft belt - like a knee sleeve for your low back and abs! Awesome to get you warm faster and keep you that way, and gives a very comfortable bit of support with the Velcro fastened. If you get one you won’t want to train without it! jswain34 has been made a believer already.

Its true. Although I screwed up and bought the wrong belt somehow (also just neoprene, but it doesnt have that velcro crossing over it like the one you see Hyde wearing). It still does exactly what he said it does but mine doesnt have as much support as that one would. Id say the one he has on is probably is about 15-20% of a belt, mine is probably 5%. Id recommend the one he has on if youre looking to get one.

Thanks everyone. It felt really satisfying, honestly - a true RPE 10 lift that took complete buy-in. Woke up weighing 225.2 today.

GET IT BOIIIIII

Do you round your lumbar on back ext to turn the glutes off?

No sir, not more than perhaps the slightest bend - my disc damage is flexion intolerant, so doing lots of even light volume in that fashion seems counterproductive to health. I do try to avoid using my glutes to raise me initially and instead try to flex my stomach very hard as I drive with my low back.

It’s just something I do to warm my core after spending 4 minutes on the recumbent bike to warm my hips every session.

You’re gonna be at 6 hundo in no time

Haha like all the kids that squat 405 & think 500 must be coming in the next 6 months I do intend to squat 600 in sleeves, but I need to go up a weight class for sure to better fill out my frame.

Last day of cycle today; just got back from having bloods drawn (Hormone Panel w Lipids from privatemdlabs). Cholesterol will be awful but I’ve never felt so good over a cycle & urine looks great so it will be interesting.

Also had 2 separate people today tell me they can’t believe how much better I am looking and didn’t believe me when I said I was only down 6lbs. The magic of anabolics

Haha, you can’t have no in your heart! (-Joe Dirt). 600 in sleeves is resident badass status! So you going to get back to the meat and potatoes bulk-a-thon? You look hungry lol. Seriously though man you leaned out real good.

Lol Joe did have a lot of things right I guess. I think I am going to try to hold weight or shrink for a bit yet. I may try to increase frequency some now that protein synthesis won’t be extended by drugs, and pull back on bro work - need to hammer my deadlift back up to snuff!

Start doing grip work like Db farmers carries and holds now. There is always a grip event and it will truly transfer over to deadlift now anyway. If frontsquat transfers to your backsquat, consider trying to keep it as a primary supplemental lift in your training. And keep overhead pressing in at least once a week no matter what, except maybe the last 3 weeks before the meet. These combined with a strong back and abs (which you should be working already) will set you up to start from a better place than if you hadn’t.

Thanks...

as of right now, events are listed as: max axle clean and press, max barbell deads, max dist. farmers (50ft turns), max dist sandbag carry (50ft turns), last man standing atlas stones.

I will most likely invest in an axle bar, sandbag, and maybe even a viking press style attachment for home use. And there's a strongman style gym maybe 30 mins away that I'll utilize for stone work and farmers, etc...long way out, but excited for it.

Get the axle immediately & start using for any overhead/incline work. Start practicing the continental clean with the axle as soon as training allows, because if you can’t clean it you can’t press it & you cannot powerclean a max axle. When it comes time to focus exclusively on the show, begin working on your push jerk or even split jerk if possible.

Also get a sandbag asap - a traditional one is a mess, so I recommend the Dual Ply Cerberus layered sandbag which has multiple liners (KITE10 for 10% off all their gear): it’s awesome, tough & cheap. Start doing distance carries & loading it over bar for conditioning now with it lighter, then when time to train for show bump it to serious weight.

Titan Fitness has cheap farmers for 80/pair for side-loaders - you will need badass adjustable clamps for these though. We have homemade ones, but if you buy toploading handles you don’t need clamps (180/pair on their site).
