Fish Oil?

My daily serving is 1,200 EPA and 600 DHA, the proper 2:1 ratio. It is also clinically tested, in fact, each batch gets 7 different tests, including potency and contamination tests. No fishy aftertaste because of a 6 step purification process. DJ, don't forget about me here, haha.
what brand do you take?

well, the liquid fish oil product i'm taking is not only more convenient but nutritionally superior containing 715mg/470mg EPA & DHA per tsp respectively. Shaklee's is not only double the price i pay but has a smaller EPA/DHA content @ 545mg/360mg respectively per serving (3 softgels).

i'm interested in megadosing and softgels will be a bit of a stipulation considering.

The NOW Foods Super EPA has 720mg of EPA and 480mg of DHA for every 2 softgels. I dose this 2-3 times a day. It a great deal seeing as how you can get a bottle of 240 softgels for $21.95 at Nutraplanet. Thats 60 days worth of softgels (4 softgels/Day) giving you 1,440mg EPA and 960mg DHA per day. Not a bad deal if I do say so myself.

Does fish oil really help with dry eyes? I've run out and have not taken any for about 2 weeks and I can't shake my dry eyes. Just trying to see if it's related to fish oil or not.

Going off the post above, it has been a bit over 4 months since I have been waiting for the Animal Omega I was told I would be receiving and then the only thing(s) I have received are the samples I requested from the website. Even those took an unnecessary amount of time to arrive. What's the situation? This is what I last heard from you folk:

I sent out my information on the 17th of February of this year. I was told I'd be receiving free of charge/complimentary so I am more than grateful for that but I'm addressing the fundamentals of the situation. If a company says it's going to do something, it should. I'm sure as sensible, reasonably intelligent folk you can imagine my frustration.

I would like to be contacted by someone who can help me resolve this matter. I trust you as a company who claims to adhere to high principles in all facets pertaining to a reputable supplement company will come up with something to rectify the situation.

Good day, Universal.

I've taken fish oil for a few years and recently went to get Lasik and the doctor said I had mild dry eye syndrome. He prescribed me Restasis and it has helped considerably. I would recommend that you ask your doctor about it.

I can help with that as a rep for Corporate. Check out your other thread in the Animal/Universal section brother.

Hey sorry about this one pb. Your post had me spend the last hour or so looking through old PM's and emails and the best I can tell is that I dropped the ball on this one. I meant to follow up on this for you and it looks like I missed the mark. I do apologize. If this doesn't get squared away now or if there is ever a situation like this in the future you can always just PM one of us reps (or all of us) to make sure it gets attention. It is never our intention to have anyone go ignored. At a minimum, you are always welcome to call the corporate office. The number is on our website.

I was out on vacation when you made your posts above so I didn't even see this until now. Most times when corp ships product you will have it in just days. If a week+ goes by and you haven't got your goods, something went wrong. Give us a shout.

I've never really noticed anything, but then again I'm not one to have dry eyes often

Peer reviewd or in house? I don't consider in house to be legit to me. Any one can in house test a product. Why do you say proper ratio of 2:1.Who considers 2:1 proper?

Animal Omega - $26
Animal Pak - $30
Animal Flex - $27

Thats $63/month just on your staples. I dont see how some of you guys do it. How can you afford this stuff? Friggin trust funds i tell ya. More power to ya, but i can afford that. I can get relatively similar stuff for 1/2 the price. Im not bashing universal by any means (hell, im using INTRAAID now ),, but working out is flat out expensive, and feel sometimes taken advantage of (as a whole, i believe this is what the supplement market has done in a sense. Kind of disheartening actually.:sigh1:

I actually agree with that. i love it when brands come out with decently priced products that work.

But...in some sense...you get what you pay for. So if a product is high quality then you pay a little more for that.

I get my Fishoil at the grocery store.

I understand where you guys are comin' from. It's not unlike the comments about post-workout supps, including Torrent (though Torrent is a great value when compared to other postworkout supps). Problem ain't because of excessive mark ups on intraworkout or postworkout supps IMHO... It's just that's what raws cost. I think the bigggest problem is perception. Many fellas, for example, might drink a sports drink for intraworkout. That's a buck or two. Postworkout, they might take whey or whey + dex. Cheap. So I think it's that these comprehensive supps, which utilize more expensive ingredients, are going up against cheaper, less comprehensive alternatives.

Another way to think about this... Try doin' a homebrew and buying the raws separately. Then try putting it together yourself and compare the cost between that and a pre-made supp. I think that may be an eye opening experience, I dunno. My $0.02.

That makes sense, I am not saying Universal/Animal products are outrageously expensive, its just I know some of the mark ups on some supplements companies sell is ridiculous. Universal IMO, sells some pretty decently priced products, products that work really well. For example, Shock Therapy is pretty price friendly and so is most of the Animal line.

I know you weren't brother... It was more of a general statement for anyone willing to read what I was saying. I do know in the past some have tried to make a Torrent-like homebrew by buying the raws separately and it turned out to be no more cost-effective. And it tasted worse, hahaha... Cuz Corporate is THE manufacturer, there are cost savings associated with this...

Think of Storm, another great value, eh?

Torrent is only used after a workout. In this wise, a Tub of Torrent lasts me almost twice as long as a tun of Whey protein. This is truly apples-oranges here.

I see guys doing like you said and buying those 2 and 3 dollar carb (all just dextrose) drinks at the gym every workout. Now if they would buy a tub of Torrent and use a serving of it in that place they would save roughly a dollar per workout for a vastly superior product. Not even comparable ingredient wise really.

In the long run, it's like a 20 year vs 30 year mortgage even without the quality difference. You seem to be paying less up front each time but in the long run you've paid way way more.

In a nut shell, I'd rather pay less for a better product than pay more for a less affective product. :afro:

I believe quality is everything in fish oil as well as any supplement but I've tried sam's club brand members mark on and off for a few years. I guess I keep getting sucked into the cheap cost and they keep coming out with new versions but the stuff absolutely does nothing! I've taken up to 12 grams a day or 12 capsules a day. Even used the more potent ones. I've never noticed anything for them whatsoever. Cheap is not better when it comes to fish oil. I'm still trying to find a brand I like.

Good point. When ya want cheap, there's cheap. But quality often comes at a price...

Have ya tried Animal Omega by any chance?

No I haven't.. I just ordered some stuff from swansonvitamins. We'll see how that goes.

I just finished 2 cans of Animal Omega. Good stuff. I just put an order in and am going to try NOW Foods Super EPA. Only time will tell.
