Weird, I somehow got unsubscribed to my own thread :thinking:

Work has been kicking my ass lately, so SHOOTING some fish sounds like some sort of red neck stress reliever right now, lol.

So I took the day off today to have my first three day weekend since 2009...and it's been raining ALL FREAKING DAY!

It's the most rain we've had in quite some time, actually :frustrate
 
Alright, so I had a pretty fun week fishing last week. No monsters, but I caught quite the variety. I'll post some pix up later this week.

Friday after work I caught what I'm told is a Rockbass (not a Rockfish) and a small Large Mouth Bass. On Saturday I caught probably close to two dozen Grey Snappers, a Red Grouper, a Sea Bass, and a Dogfish.
 
Dogfish makes me think of beer! Love some dogfish head 90 min IPA!

Good catchin ya did there buddy! bet it was fun

Some of your fish pics really scare me. I like the goverment needs to take a look at what is lurking in those FL waters.:laughing:
 
Wait til I find my card reader and upload the pic of the dogfish. The first thing I thought when I caught it was, "I'm not touching that." Then I thought, "I can't wait to show this to Don!"

I went fishing this morning, but after a short time I ran out of worms. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a cottonmouth with a frog in his mouth. "Frogs are good bass bait" I thought to myself.

Knowing the snake couldn't bite me with the frog in his mouth, I grabbed him right behind the head, took the frog, and put it in my bait bucket.
Just then, I realized I had a problem, how was I going to release the snake without getting bit? So, I grabbed my bottle of Jack Daniels and poured a little whiskey in its mouth. The snakes eyes rolled back and he went limp. I released him into the lake without incident and carried on fishing using the frog.

A little later, I felt a nudge at my foot. There was that same snake with two more frogs in his mouth.
Life is good in the South.

Funny that you should post that. I really did have a small cottonmouth come right up on me last week while fishing near some weeds offshore! Some of you might know this snake as a water moccasin...not something to mess around with.

I hate those things. My neighbor has crawfish ponds and those damn cotton mouths are also passing through my yard. One almost got my boxer when he was a puppy, I scooped him up just before he ran over the snake. That bad boy was c o c ked and ready to strike.

If I had enough JD in me I would bite the damn snake.
 
I was biking with my daughter on the sidewalk in my neighborhood. We just came over one of the wood bridges, I was in the lead by a couple hundred feet. I yelled "look out theres a snake" and pulled to a stop when I was 15-20 feet past it. As she got closer I yelled again "look out for the snake" and pointed to it. She ran it over of course. it was a cottonmouth. It stuck its head up for a minute in shock, and hightailed it for the woods. I was cracking up.

Sorry for the bad pictures. I had a hard time getting the hook out and was trying to get him back in the water ASAP. It fought pretty hard. I was for sure I had caught another yearling male large mouth bass.

The red eye is throwing me off. It's hard to see in the pic, but it also had blue stripes on its face when the light hit it in various ways.
 
I've been fishing since I was around 8 years old. The past 6 or so years though I haven't fished much. Mostly I like fishing for Small mouth bass. The best tasting fish I think is fresh water cat fish. I used to fish from sun up to sundown. Only stop to go to the bathroom, then back to the boat.
 
That's along the lines of what I was thinking. I was guessing Shellcracker aka Redear Sunfish. Same family. I was just thrown off by the mouth. When I lived up north, the Sunnys had much smaller mouths.
 
I threw one back. I caught what was likely about a yearling Largemouth that day too. Oddly enough, I caught them both on the same homemade spinner :thinking:

I caught a lot of Crappie this season. I've never fished from them before and had no idea there was a panfish like the Crappie. They call them Speck or Papermouth here in Central Florida...and yes, they are pretty tasty. Come to think of it, I have caught Speck on the spinner that I mentioned above too, lol.

Yes,we do have a lot of big cats here in Oklahoma.Me and a friend have been catching a lot of channel cats,bluegill,crappie,largemouth,whitebass,and drums the last few weeks.
OP,that is one scary damn catfish.I don`t know how I would react if I reeled something like that in.
 
The thing you have to worry about these days though is is it safe to eat from the waters you catch from. There are a lot of safe places here in the woods but a lot of places in other states I wouldn't dare to eat the fish.
 
I got 13 bass today on a fishing trip. Not a bad day. My buddy caught a 5lber. He is putting it on the wall. Told him not too, but its the biggest hes ever caught. I have caught plenty of 6 and 7lbers and never thought about putting them on the wall. But to each his own.

It's a black round jig head with a solid glitter chartreuse grub. Sometimes I'll throw a black tube with a chartreuse tail on that black jig head and that seems to work equally as well. I guess it's really just a homemade beetle spin. I stick to a the glitter chartreuse trailers on my bigger spinners too. It just seems to be an all purpose color.

I have **** ton of worms too, but I haven't decided which color of these works best yet :lol:

I release almost everything I catch, with the exception of Crappie. I always go out with a buddy when fishing for Crappie and he absolutely loves them. I just toss mine in his bucket.

I had to work today, so it was fishing or the gym and I already needed to make up a session from earlier this week...I chose the gym :D

What were you catching on today?
 
Yeah this is my first time out this year! I have been way too busy. I was catching on a soft plastic bait called a Yum Dinger. They love those things. My favorite bait to fish with by far.
 
I've never heard of that before...I'm obviously about to Google it though :D

Its good stuff. Just fish it weightless and texas rig it. My favorite lure for bass. Whenever they arn't biting real hard you can usually put this on and they fire right up.
 
Went fishing with my mom today for about 45 minutes right after work. I caught a small Largemouth on a junebug colored Zoom U-Tail worm (Texas Rigged on a weighted hook).

It's not very big, but it's bittersweet. Everybody around here always talks about how you can't catch in that particular lake AND it's my first Largemouth on a worm :D

Awesome! I hope more people see this thread and subscribe/share.

One of my co-workers is supposed to take me out on a boat tomorrow. Everything I've posted so far has been from the shore or a dock/pier.

I'm still relatively new to fishing in Florida (< 1 year). Honestly though, I think I'll always get excited if I'm pulling something in :lol:
 
Thats not a bad size bass. As long as your fishing, it doesn't matter how big or many you catch, its about having fun and leaving stresses behind. I can't wait to get back to it this weekend.

For my area this is a pretty good size largemouth bass.

What all did you catch? It's hard to tell from the picture. Looks like a good time though.

I went out on a charter with some buddies a few weeks back caught Red Grouper, Black Grouper, Sea Bass, Porgy, and a ton of Snapper.
 
Mostly bream. There's a couple of sacaulait/ white perch, and a few goggle eye.

Wanna trade? Grouper is king!

We couldn't keep the Grouper. There's currently an International ban on them. I ended up coming home with Snapper and Sea Bass.

How do those Goggle Eyes taste? We call them Warmouth down here.
 
Goggle eye is good fish, very similar to bream, maybe a little better. I have no way of proving it, but I think they are a cross between bream and sacaulait. Bream colors with a longer body and big mouth like the sacaulait.
 
Bleh, I'm reading a lot of conflicting information. Now I'm not sure if a Warmouth and Goggle Eye are the same thing or not, lol. They certainly look similar if they are not the same thing. There's too many darn types of Sunfish :D
