Everything Fishing - Come On In!!!

I think the water is still too warm for Speck. We had an alright night with the cats though. The pix are kind of hard to see.

I believe this one was a Flathead Cat. It had a mouth on it as big or bigger than a Large Mouth Bass of the same size. It fought like crazy too!

mmmm flatheads!! powerful little suckers!

No kidding. My buddy looked over and was like, "What the hell are you pulling in!"

The ironic thing is that I was about to pull that line in b/c I had crossed it with another line. I always pull the line very slightly and slowly before reeling in...just in case something is checking out my bait. I figure that doing this might cause an instinctive strike. I honestly at first thought that whatever I caught had wrapped around a rock or under a log in the water! This one was just a little under 18".

Pretty lucky up here in SW Michigan....decent rivers and inland lakes and ofcoarse Lake Michigan with salmon, perch, lake trout, brown trout, steelheaad, and my favorite Skamani (its a really aggressive steelhead that breeds in the summer. And of coarse theres Lake Erie on other side with great walleye and smallmouth

That sounds like some really good fishing. I think I might start looking into to doing some salt water fishing. I've never really been, but have been told that I won't go back to freshwater once I do

Up until about two months ago, I hadn't been but maybe once or twice in about 15 years. I was instantly hooked...again :D

As of a few hours ago, I had plans to go tomorrow morning, Friday night, and Saturday morning. I'm not sure if any of it will happen now, lol.

Rough day guys. I caught a couple of Large Mouth Bass, but the biggest was about nine inches long...if that :run:

Honestly though, it was a little longer than my hand from fingertip to palm. No keepers this week. Oh well, it was a new spot and it was windy as hell. I can't complain though, b/c the weather is still beautiful here in Central Florida!

Your freaking Spotted Gar are probably eating all the big Large Mouth Bass LOL.

Did anyone watch the collage fishing competition in Sacramento ? One of the teams landed a treble hook in the back of his partners head ! 2 of the 3 prongs were buried in the kids scalp...ouch. They caught some pretty nice fish though.

LOL. That happens in some areas. Those things will just take over.

Treble hooks are nasty.

Man you just have not lived if you have not made a trip to the emergency room with treble hooks in you. Thank God it only happened once LOL.

LOL. What?

I just read this Don. What happened? Did you hook somebody or did somebody hook you?

Sorry guys. This was a rough week. I went fishing three times since the pic of that little monster two posts up...the only thing I caught this week was a killer blue gill. I'm not sure how he did it, but it was off of a minnow. The minnow was sticking out of his mouth when I pulled it in. The bluegill couldn't even swallow the bait

Yup. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I told you, it was an off week, lol.

Speaking of killers though...there's a lake up the street from my house and people have occasionally been catching these Pacu from 15 lbs - 20 lbs. I'm not sure how though b/c the local papers are stating that they're supposedly herbivores. I'm certain they're omnivores though: Invalid Link Removed

EDIT:^^^That's not me. Just the best pic I could find :(

I had bought a pacu for my fishtank a long long ways back (1994?) When I got him he was around the size of a quarter. After a couple years, he was a good foot across, and although oddly he didn't eat any of the original fish who were in the tank with him, once he was big enough I couldn't add any new fish as he'd immediately eat em. Then one weekend I went away for something or another, and when I got back, he was solo in the tank :)

LOL. My suspicions have been confirmed.

I swam in the lakes when I was younger. No more my friend, no more.

My first Speck experience. I think I need to get a boat

I made the same comment. They look like the love-child of a white perch and large mouth bass.

^^^LOL. Very true.

I felt like I had to make up for this weekend, so I went fishing for about an hour today. I stopped by Walmart and pieced together my own "beetle spin." No monsters, but still fun to pull in on a homemade jig!

Second cast of the day:

I bringing this thread back. Gotta got to Hartford Connecticut for two weeks in Jan and feb and didn't know if any of my am buddies are out there for some ice fishing!!! Never done it and we may not be north enough(yes I'm retarded) but if anyone wants to smash a little steel And show me how/where to ice fish I'm down

I've been fishing a lot lately. It's but it's been at night though and the pix never turn out right. The speck are hitting alright now.

Ice fishing sounds like a drinking sport :D

I'm going fishing Christmas morning, but there will not be any ice nor drinking involved, lol.

Ya, we're from the south!!!! I need some Yankees to show me what's going in their area!! Looked over all ur pics and you have been kicking ass!

Thanks.

I think I've had more fun than I've actually had success. I've been waiting to pull in a nice four or five pound Large Mouth. I might have to wait til the spring now. It's getting cold and not much is hitting the artificial baits right now.

I don't care though. I just like pulling stuff in. I also like catching different types of fish, so I'm constantly playing around with different rigs, jigs, and baits.

Haha! Ya I heard about the cool spell. Man, I kept driving over a river in Windsor locks Ct we would have cleaned house in... It was f-ing 12 degrees!! I imagine the next trip will be in the negs. We need to meet up and throw some line

Just make sure you bring some type of protection like a AK-47 with some of the stuff Stxnas pulls out of those waters.

I can't believe you've never seen a garfish, I thought those things lived everywhere. You can leave them on land for like 6 hours and they won't die.

Even more of a reason for the AK-47.:AR15firing:

If I can use a AK-47 I am in.:)

mine was actually bought pre-ban. I could have gotten an ak, but for 2.5-3x the price it didn't seem worthwhile

Yeah the AK's are expensive, I got the mak90 for $160 new, at a gun show. I never tried to shoot a fish with it, but it sure will blow the hell out of turtles.

mine is a milled reciever chinese model rather than stamped or one of the romanian ones, so it was around $300 in 92

well, hmm now I have to pull mine out and check it. I thought it was a milled receiver, but mine has a threaded barrel.

LMAO I want to see what it would do to those feral pigs.:aargh:

Well, I hate the fact that we've turned Stxnas' fishing tread into a gun battle but, one last thing. We build oil and gas production equipment here. We have a lot of steel shells made of some pretty hard material, SA 516Gr.70 is common. I shot at a piece 1 1/2" thick at a 45° angle with my mak90 and it gouged about a 1/2" deep into that plate. I also shot clean through a 14" diameter pine tree.
