Dress Shirts for wide shoulder small waist?

Yeah, I was just wondering what what brands and where, ect. you guys are finding for long sleeve dress shirts/casual wear? My back and shoulders are a lot wider than my waist so if I get a dress shirt that fits my shoulders, then it is baggier in the waist area and looks dumb. And if i get a dress/casual dress shirt the fits my waist better, then its really tight in the shoulder area.
Just wondering what others have found that work, etc.
Thanks in advance.

You need to either ask where atheletes get their suits, or go to a good suit store and see if they have "atheletic cut".

I have to wear a dress shirt every day for work, and I look like a big blocky refridgerator in a dress shirt. Therefore, I took all my dress shirts to a alterations place and it made an amazing difference. Only $10/shirt (which to me was very worth it) and they take the waist in. It made all the difference in the world. I highly recommend it.

Yup - this is the way to go, either that or get your shirts from a place that caters to formal wear for athletes.

this is a big problem for me as well

i've found that BCBG's athletic cut (or fitted i forget what they call it) has a fairly decent taper and Express' fitted shirts (XL) are ok as well

but outside of having them tailored like suggested, i have not been able to find a company that makes a shirt that fits a very large shoulder to waist ratio .. why would they .. they'd sell like 1,000 total haha

You can find 'fitted' dress shirts in stores like Macy's, JC Penny that will work well. When I cut down and my waist got a lot smaller, all my XL dress shirts fit fine on top but then billowed out like a tent at the bottom. The brand "Alfani" is what I found and they're decent quality, and fit well.

Of course, custom tailoring is the way to go - just make sure you dont get any bigger or that expensive shirt wont fit anymore! :D

Claiborne has a great tapered/athletic cut.

Ha Ha :icon_lol: Funny

Anyways, thanks for the advice everyone. It has been great help. I will look into the certain brands you mentioned as well as finding a decently priced tailor.
Later

Perry Ellis has a nice line of athletic cut dress shirts. The dress shirt has a nice taper room in the shoulder/back/neck and end nicely around the waist. If you have a V-shape, it will show very well in that shirt. {The ladies can tell that you workout because the shirt compliment the built.} The shirt is 100% cotton and fit very comfortable. I usually purchased the shirt for $39.99 or I'll stack up on them around Father's Day for half price. :afro:

- ordered a few from here, they tend to be small waist and wider shoulder. The waist isnot THAT small but should fit nicely as the longer i had te shirts the more i like the way they fit lol.(i got bigga):bb:

Express, catch them when they have sales, you can get their tapered shirts for a decent price.

Custom made

Agreed. Every different cut I found either looked like it could cover Connecticut when it rained or could not get my arms in the sleeves. It's very expensive, but worth it IMO. Having made to measure suits/shirts/pants are comfortable and look great. Anything more than a 12-15 inch difference between chest and waist will pretty much warrant a custom job unless you want to look ridiculous.

Highly Recommended

Not a bad price for a custom made shirt.

abercrombie is fairly good too.
Abercrombie? :D They don't make shirts for men--its women and small boys .

I hadn't been working out for like 6-8 months, went in there, and their XL was too small. It fit like an M/S

Maybe if you cut the waist off the abercrombie shirt and stitched it onto a normal shirt it'd work. haha.

Anyway, I'm glad I ran into this thread b/c there is nothing worse than looking like a lampshade.

I think if you search you may find a really long thread on this....i started one a long a** time ago..not sure if its still available...

we all ahve the same issues... I'm 5'6" currently 185....even "athletic cuts" or "slim fit" doesnt even really work for me personally

I was just joking with my room mate who is 6'4" 220 or so....he was in the big and tall store while we were xmas shopping...i was like hmm i'm about to open a store called "short and stocky" seriously it's an issue

so far Express has been good to me, although their shirts tend to wrinkle a lot. and this brand called "Nyne" they have good stuff

Good Lord Bro...when I was at 5'8 w/ a 29" waist I weighed about 115lbs...no joke...I no longer have a 29" waist nor am 115lbs though...

Anyway, back to thread. I used to go to The Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse and buy tapered shirts and pleated dress pants and then immediately have them tailored for a few bucks more. I still paid less there after being tailored than if I went to the mall or a specialty store.

When I was in sales I would stop by there probably once every other week or so. I didn't always find stuff every trip, but sometimes I would get two or three shirts at a time. The turnover was huge so there was constantly new stuff to choose from.
