Hi guys, i'm going to get straight to the point.. i've suffered with depression and anxiety my whole life.

My anxiety is so bad I literally can not go to the library/cafeteria without being in distraught, even with friends the crowd completely unnerves me.

I have lately been researching into amino acid therapy, and I am making a trip to GNC today, can anyone recommend/shed some light on this?

My current plan is:

L-Tyrosine - 500mg mornings once daily (dose will be adjusted until find that dose that works for me)

5htp 50mg - Evening, once daily.

Vitamin B Complex, taken with L-tyrosine in the morning (Should I also take this with 5-htp in the evening?)

Vitamin C with L-tyro/5htp.

Does anyone have any recommendations to add to this? I want to feel alive, and I really have confidence after reading other people's experiences that this might be what does it for me.

I'm going to gnc within 3-4 hours so any help would be so much appreciated.

Sorry, No personal experience but based on some of the things I've seen/read I'd look into L-Theanine & SAM-e.

Have you talked with your Dr about trying these supplements?

B-complex, a good multi, and ester c is what i would do. But thats just a general thing i would tell for anyone. I'm sure there are special depression and anxiety supplements. If anything what i recommend wouldnt hurt. It looks like you've already got the b complex and vitamin c is okay. ester c just has a little more kick.

Adding l-theanine onto the stack or replacing something on the stack?

I had severe anxiety untill I started taking buspirone. Doctor perscribed it to me. Might be worth looking into. I know this has nothing to do with what you are talking about. But It honestly saved my life

I would advise going to a specialist. Supplements may help reduce anxiety on a day to day basis, but psychological issues tend to be quite complex and should only really be dealt with by a specialist IMO; especially if you seek long term help.

If these are two things that you have had to deal with your whole life, as stated in the OP, I would suggest seeing a doctor and/or therapist to find out what the underlying problem is. Personally, I believe these types of disorders have some sort of underlying problem. Whether or not a person wants to admit that or face those problems is different.

This. You need to see either a psychologist or a psychiatrist; only they have offer you long term lasting solutions.

Another vote for seeing a specialist, but also check out this book http://www.anxietycoach.com/panic-attacks-help.html. I was fortunate to have found Dr. Carbonell when my anxiety was at an all time high and I was taking buspirone, klonopin, xanax, and remeron all at the same time. A book is never an equal replacement for a good therapist and I'm hesitant to ever recommend self help books, but it has some really useful tips for like 15 bucks.

Definitely seek out a specialist though. Drug therapies for depression and anxiety save lives, but you really want to attempt cognitive and behavioral therapies first because once you start down the drug route, it's really hard to get off. It took me 16 years to be free of everything except allergy meds. I'm not at all against prescription drugs as I work in pharma, but it's best to start out simple and work up. And supplements may help mask what is going on, but are not going to last.

I agree seeking professional talk therapy. I am not a fan of anti depressants having been on them for a period of 4 years. Coming off of them was the best decision I ever made. When I came off, I implemented a natural "anti depressant" stack which I still use successfully for 4 years now. When I first started, I was doing

50mg 5HTP at bed
500mg l tyrosine x2 daily (4-6 hours apart)
200mg SAMe upon waking
B100 complex 1x daily upon waking

After 2 months I dropped the 5htp entirely and just stuck with the b, tyrosine and SAMe as listed above.

Have you opened a bible lately....all your answers are there...going to church or viewing a Preacher on TV like Joyce Myers interacts with her congregation online either website or facebook. Alongside what others may have suggested...begin with the one who created life. If you don't believe in God then I have no other suggestions but this is your truth. Asking everyone around you instead of the one who knows what your going through will help remove the root of the problem so you can have a long prosperous life without depression and anxiety. I'm speaking from experience. I just walked this valley and realized I looked everywhere else but to God for my answers. When I sought him instead things became very clear. Only trying to help and give you an alternate route.

Just to be clear, are you suggesting OP read a bible or one of Joyce Meyer's useless pieces of @#$% that do nothing except fund her private cult jet? Two very different things.

Its tough to beat as it based upon a chemical imbalance which differs person to person. Everyone is different.

Ashwagandha, Bacopa, Rhodiola are a great combination for herbals.

St Johns Wort is good too just find a good quality extract. Not the cheap junk versions.

Gotta say, once I renewed my faith a little over a year ago, I've had a much better outlook on life and interactions with people. I don't personally read the bible or attend church. But I give thanks daily in prayer and live by the golden rule as much as I can. Good advice

OP - Please see a doctor. This is a medical issue. By no means do I think drugs are necessary, but if you are going to try natural supplements for it, I suggest that at the very least you undergo some type of therapy. It can be extremely effective. You can find a doctor that will work with you and listen to you.

I´ve gone through something similar when I moved back from US.
What did the trick for me was selegiline, aniracetam + choline

Your missing the best thing for anxiety.

1 gram of L-Theanine (Suntheanine)

Thank me later.

The biggest issue is that while L-theanine is decent for general state of calm, it does nothing for anticipatory anxiety, which is what most people suffering from SA and GAD have. So it can be fine to take, but don't expect much from it for actual anxiety.

And yes, 1G is a lot.

Real depression and anxiety will be due to imbalance in certain neurotransmitters. Reading the bible or buying into faith may help you cope and give you a different outlook.. but its not going to cure it. Just liek AFI said.. go see a specialist.

Also to add to my recommendations: high dose fish oil. look into a high omega 3 fish oil and start using 5-10grams a day. Lots of good info on this and actually repairing the brain.

Isn't 1g a lot? I've used 200-300mg with some success.

It is a lot but its not like youll overdose or brings any ill effects

300mg is nowhere near what 1 gram can do atleast for me

I would never recommend medication, there are many natural remedies for a lot of things. I would do some research on natural remedies.

Just to be clear, are you suggesting OP read a bible or one of Joyce Meyer's useless pieces of @#$% that do nothing except fund her private cult jet? Two very different things.
Reading his bible and following a pastor is not two different things. You read the bible to seek answers and a Pastor can give a word you needed for the week or in the future to help your understanding of what your reading. No, it's not two different things. Your supposed to read the bible for your own understanding regardless of what a Pastor says anyway to ensure what your hearing is correct. That's like saying going to school and doing homework is different. No they go hand in hand.

I'm not here to argue what you believe or how you feel. It's your opinion what you think about Joyce Myers, or any other pastor for that reason. Fact remains its about the thought and message neigh delivered! You don't have to tithe with her if you believe she is mishandling money. Giving is based on your heart and giving cheerfully. It doesn't matter what happens to it after you give it away. The tithe is blessed based on your actions. Too many propel get wrapped up on why they should give and what the person will do with their money....your seeing a seed. The person accepting has deal with the consequences of mishandled. Your blessed by the seed you provide regardless.

To the people who stress seeing a doctor...I never stated in my original post not to see one. I said he needs to take his word to God first and foremost and then he will give him guidance or move people on his behalf to help with his situation. I stayed ALONG SIDE WHAT OTHERS have stated...shall he seek the one who is with him at all times. I'm not a preacher or evangelist. I'm a regular person with problems and issues...like everyone else. Difference is I try to live my life accordingly to pleasing God. I fail miserably daily. I admit it and repent and move on.

I don't have all the answers or claim to have them but people seem to disclaim and seek answers from others before opening their bible because let's face it. This world has existed long before any of were born and the bible is based on stories. We Ted to fall into the same path as those written about in some shape or form and yet people refuse to believe. It's ok....I'm only held to what I learn or know....without any denial as Jesus is the son of Hod and died for our sins. In recognizing that...my name is in the book of life. Its my job to speak on him when I get the chance.

Please understand I'm not going to argue with you or go back and forth. I did my part in tryingr to atleast get OP to speak to someone in his family who can pray for him alongside seeking medical professional to help. God will deliver on his promise once he acts on the prayer...Secondly having faith....Faith without works is dead. Carry on fellow iron brothers and I'll see you all in other posts. I'm done here!

^^^Let's leave god out of this. No need to push that message too much, it was made once - if he's interested he'll go to some religious forum. He is seeking advice - first and foremost is to see a specialist. After that he can worry about, god, baal, ram, or any other diety of his choosing.

Dealt with serious serious depression for around 8 years. Not religious. Never took a pill or saw a counselor for it. Hit rock bottom one day and decided to change my life and enough was enough. Let's be real tea here. Telling someone to get religion is just replacing one disorder with another.

This is a good topic.

I´ve been suffering with Anxiety and Agoraphobia for the last 10 years.

There was a time i was almost cured but that nightmare comes again.

Currently, the worst thing is the antecipatory anxiety. If i know i have to do something, even only in a week or two, i´m always thinking about it. However during those situations, i feel "better". And after, i feel a new person, with no anxiety at all and happy. Unfortunately, that felling last only a few hours.

Agoraphobia is another nightmare. I tend to avoid situations where i can´t escape easily and where i felt really bad before.. This can sound ridiculous but i avoid a simple car ride (i do love drive but if i´m the passenger seat i got anxious) , going to the cinema or to a disco, thinking "what if i feel bad"?

This ruins a life.. Looking back i did a lot of things i can´t do now. Things i enjoyed and still enjoy but have afraid of feeling bad.

About supplements, i already tried a lot of things, like: Multivitaminics, L-Theanine, Inositol, Taurine, L-Tryptofan, Lemon Balm, Passiflora, Valeriana, Lavender, Bach Flowers, Homeopatic supplements, St Johns, Kava and many others..

At first they all seems working but i guess it´s placebo effect because the Anxiety returns. Of all of these, Kava seems to be the more potent one. It feels like a mild Benzo. St Johns seemed to be work too but i had to stop taking it because i was getting a lot of nausea and eye problems (difficult to focus things). I don´t know if it was related or not.

Doctor has prescribed Alprazolam and it has been my life saver on critical situations. I only take 0.25mg or 0.5mg before some situations and it helps.

Now, i´ll follow Kisaj advice. Aniracetam, Alpha GPC, Bacopa and Ashwagandha and lets see how it will be. I had read Aniracetam can cause even more anxiety on some people but i hope it´s not the case.

Can you post where you read Aniracetam can cause anxiety? It is very much an anxiolytic so that is interesting, but noots can affect people differently.

Good luck, I hope you'll find some comfort with that stack.

kisaj, i bought both Ashwagandha and Bacopa in powder form in a online store, here in my country to be faster.

It was the only store i found with it. However i suspect that´s not extract but whole plant because they say to take 10g of Ashwagandha and 3g of Bacopa per day. I sent an e-mail asking more details but i had no reply yet.

What do you think? With this recommended dosage, is shouldn´t be extract right? Any disavantage with it? How do you take, only one time per day ou splitted?

Edit: They already have confirmed they aren´t extracts

Has anyone experimented with the high dose fish oil as i recommended before? Google it.. tons of info even studies.

Important though to use a clean source of fish oil. I like the higher pharmaceutical grades in liquid form. You dont want to be ingesting large doses of heavy metals.

Started today too. I had a bootle here (Amount per 2 softgel serving: EPA (18%): 360mg, DHA (12%): 240mg) however i only take it sometimes.

I know it´s a mistake and should be a staple.

Another two supplements i didn´t take always but i´ll start to are:

Vit. D (2500iU)
Magnesium Malate (Magnesium (from 1000 mg Magnesium Malate) 150 mg and Calcium (from Calcium Carbonate) 100 mg )

I have been stacking coluracetam and noopept. So far I really like it, visuals have been amazing, images in my head almost look and feel real. Fluid thoughts etc.
