Dave's Newest bulk into cut for show. AAS, SLIN and GH

My legs suffered some setbacks last year, they will be outgrowing my 38x34 jeans this year (32" waist)

Okay I'm not the only one who has to wear huge jeans then! I'm a 32in waist but if I attempt to wear 32/32 I rip them. Gotta wear 36/32 which blows.

Just part of the life man. My wife, when we first met, wondered why I had such a hard time finding jeans that fit well and buy several pairs when I did find some.

I used to love the producer pants from express, I wore them for work. I remember the day I outgrew express, I was so mad. I called corporate and filed a complaint for them to make over 36x34 pants, I had already outgrown the shirts, but the pants was a tough blow. Now I just say fck it and wear shorts all the time haha

I bet it's hard to find jeans that make your little legs look bigger. Have you tried the women's section? Your skinny jeans aren't skinny enough

I live in Nike shorts and sweats. Haven't worn pants in months.

Yeah....not shorts weather here yet

I started splitting hamstrings and quads so I could hit them each hard, doing both in the same day was taxing and my hamstrings were suffering a little because of it. When I blast my quads they stay sore for a good 4-5 days. I'm not against doing them in the same day, my legs got very big that way, I just find it easier to split them now.

This upcoming week I'm going add another leg day. Typical leg day is back squats for about 45 min. Warm up sets, 225x12, 315x6, 335x6, 365x4, drop to 335 and do 5 sets of 5, 2 sets of 12 at 225. Then 4 sets of leg press with 18 plates x 8, hack squat machine x 4 at 360, RDLs 4 sets of 10 at 225, standing leg curls 100 lbs per leg x 4, and seated calf raises 6 sets at 180lbs. I've never done the math on the leg press. I'm going to split out the RDLs, leg curls, and add another hammy dominant exercise on a 2nd leg day. Will also probably include calf raises as well. Thoughts?

for the next few weeks try increasing your rep range. Instead of going for more weight and dropping to 8 reps, keep the weight the same but go for 15. I rarely go under 12 reps for legs. You're leg pressing around 850lbs btw.

Do recommend increasing the reps across all excercises? I should have mentioned that I do 8 reps on the hack machine and 12 reps on the seated calf raise.

Add something like a squat to the end of one of your current training days. 2 to 4 sets. Believe it or not if you're not training legs 2x a week or 3 now it will take very little to stimulate muscle growth. Don't waste time on a second leg day yet. I deadlift 2 x a week . I add a set or 4 of deads on shoulder day and leg day. It has brought my quads , hams, and glutes to a new level.

People seem to think they need to destroy body parts 2 to 3x a week and add this stupid amount of volume that will in the end lead to...not much more than adding 1 exercise on another body parts day. Also could lead to injuries. Knees, ankles, back and hips are the #1 most injured. Try 1 set or 3 of squats, if this treats you well and you feel no need to add more then don't. Otherwise you can always tweak later.

Just my .02

yes. I used to go heavy thinking that's how they would grow, then I started training with an American gladiator that stressed reps. My legs grew like crazy. I would go pretty heavy still, but he wouldn't let me stop doing reps at 8 or even 10, he wanted 12+ always. After a few months I went from doing like 20 plates for like 8 on the leg press to doing 28 plates for 14 was the most I remember. During this time I trained legs once a week and did quads and hamstrings together.

Also having a partner for legs helps huge. You simply cannot push yourself to failure on legs alone, and that's when the real ripping and tearing of the muscles happens. I would have over 1000lbs on the leg press and do 8-9 reps and think "I'm fckd" and he would yell "3 more" and he would not let me fckn rack it until I did it or it started coming down on me and he and his wife caught it. She was 5'10" 170 and was leaner than me. I have seen her leg press 18 plates for over 12, not trying to cut anyone down, they were just both beast as ****, oh she was a gladiator also

A great point, I do need a training partner. My biggest challenge is that there are few guys my age interested in training to the degree that I am. Most of my friends are golfers lol. I'll have to look harder.

how old are you? Im a golfer, lol, 4 handicap, I'm only 29 tho

I feel great and only joke about being old since I suspect most guys in this thread are younger than I am. I'll find a youngster who's not afraid to push an old guy around in the gym. :-)

There's a few older dudes that are massive in my gym. I'd love to lift with them.

Haha, when I trained with people back in Orlando I felt tiny, I remember one day in particular I benched 365 for 5 and was feeling good, but then my buddy I trained with a lot asked me to spot him for military press and did 335 for 6 without me touching the bar, kept me grounded. Sadly there's not many people bigger than me down here. I really have to motivate myself and I've lifted alone for the last 2 years now.

I feel you, a buddy of mine is a power lifter, so I'm brought back to reality when I see him bench 495x5. Unfortunately our training schedules rarely coincide.

I need stuff like that. Makes me work harder. I have to be the strongest.

yeah I have one friend about 30 away that's a power lifter. He won't lift with me anymore tho. Last time we lifted was a shoulder and tricep day for me and he was military pressing with me and put 275 on the bar and did 2, I did 7. He's starts egging me on to do 315, so I did it, twice. He goes "man **** this, I'm gonna go bench" haha. Flat bench, squats, dead lifts he's real strong, but I beat him with anything else.

That's awesome, hopefully you motivates him.

For me I have to do heavy squats, I just love them. I don't care about what's better for growth all I care about is smashing around heavy weight coming out of the hole with power.

haha, if you noticed my strength went up considerably when I forced higher reps. I'm not saying don't go heavy, just do a weight u could get 12 for and push yourself to 15. Most people think their legs are at failure and they have a few reps left in the tank. I just started to press heavy again, I don't do squats due to a disk injury, but even after months off I'm still getting 22 plates for 12 just coming back to lifting legs hard a few weeks ago. This is my friend that military pressed 335 for 6. Notice the legs. He would sometimes squat and load up 315 and do sets of 30 putting his ass to his ankles. There are a lot of slow twitch muscle fibers in your legs.

Woah! You look amazing!

Totally flipped out on a bum pushing a shopping cart down the busy ass road that people usually run 55 down. There was a side walk literally 5 feet away. I had to hit the brakes not to run over him so I pulled up next to him and told him politely the sidewalk is right next to him stop obstructing traffic. He started yelling at me. I lost it. I almost got in a fight with a fu(king bum! Lmao. I just wound up putting the back tires in the shoulder where all the salt and gravel build up and floored it to fling sh!t at him as I drove away.

Getting leaner

I'm just speechless... I guess perfection does exist!

Doesn't it look like he has a 10 pack?!

Hey Dave, I need some grated cheese. Can borrow your abs for a minute?

I do that with front squats. I've actually been pushing the higher reps lately and have been loving it. I'll get to 12 and feel like stopping then get up to 16. Those extra force kind of reps are awesome!

Jesus DD, arm pit/ lat veins?! Also, it's time to remove that air brush paint from your mid section, your abs are looking a little too perfect ;)
