Workout #21: BJJ 4/1/09

We worked on a guillotine rebuttal to a player who has you in half guard with a deep underhook. I wasn't particularly happy that he taught this, as I tend to use the deep half-guard hook very often.

Then we worked a head and arm choke rebuttal to a tucked in head from the previous position. I didn't quite get the mechanics of this one during reps. I will have to work it again later.

Nothing much to say about sparring. It went decent.

Increased Strength
I had to add 10 pounds on top of my scheduled 7-8% increase on my bench because 155 was too easy. I had to add 2 1/2 pounds to my curls because there were no appropriately weighted DBs. I rocked both exercises.

Definitely noticeable in the DB curls.
Improved Recovery Times Between Sets
Yes.
Vastly Increased Muscular Endurance
Yep, evidently.

I moved this weekend. We started moving on Saturday and almost finished Sunday. All that is left is little things, but it's the little things that end up taking the longest to move I've noticed.

I have no internet access until at&t moves my service to my new place. And, the gyms around here are ridiculously expensive. It is so annoying. I just want a simple gym with weights that I can beast on. I don't need a damn rock climbing wall, a kid's fun center, or a bar.

I don't want this to jeopardize my sexyness.

Also I know your internet troubles. I was at the library for almost a month after my move. I actually had to cancel DSL service with Verizon because they dicked me and had to get a local cable modem.

I think those types of places are needed. With the right placement, you don't even need that much space (save for a power lifting area).

Oh I would want some space anyway, haha. At least "upward". I would make a great deal of use with plyo boxes, jumpropes, and overhead lifts. Ya know...a real gym ;)

Full update later. I just had to talk about the dream I had the other night.

I don't remember much of it, but it had the Rock in it. He was getting out of the showers in a tent in a desert. There was also a tornado that I was running from that I had to hide under a high school's bleachers from. And, thereafter, a dozen UFOs outside a tall building I was in. One of the UFO's came directly for the window I was watching out of and shrunk to be able to fit inside the room I was in.

This is probably the craziest dream I have ever had in my life. I think the TNT with the PowerFULL and ZMK combined for insanity!

It's also important to note that I always dream in color. I don't care what anyone says. I know I dream in color because they are sooooooooooo vivid and obvious. It's like the colors pop out at me in my dreams. I seem to always subconsciously know that I'm dreaming in my dreams because the color thing is always very striking.
 
Oh, and update (thanks to Deuce and MST).

I will be running TNT+Coleus along with this stack to help recomping purposes. I will dose the stack at it's minimum suggested dosages as to not affect strength gains.

So that means:
Divanil 1 three times a day
T Rez 1 two times a day
T Force 1 three times a day
Coleus 1 three times a day

That, along with everything else that I have been doing. I truly feel that dosing this way will give me the best bang for the buck and still keep this log from being compromised.

Workout #23: BJJ 4/7/09

We went over some attacks against good posture when someone is in your guard. I did appreciate one technique very very much. It was tight. A good wristlock that the instructor pulls on me very often.

Highlights of sparring include almost passing the instructor's guard into side control.

I also rolled with a big ass dude. He must have been at least 350 but probably somewhere around 400. That was very difficult because he was soooooooooooo huge. I couldn't wrap around him at all. He was also very strong which made things much more difficult.

I actually had to stop after that because I performed this workout in a fasted state. That wasn't a great idea. I started getting dizzy during the middle of it. By the end, I felt really terrible.

Increased Strength
If you guys remember (or look back) this is a substantial weight increase in my front squat. My technique has improved thanks to the powerlifting coach in my class. I actually increased more than I was supposed to because I felt really strong. And, I didn't even fail any of the sets!

NICE! I knew getting the form down would help with your Front Squats! Getting some coaching was a great idea.

My Front Squat is currently 305x5, while my Back Squat 5RM is ~395.

A significant difference is normal between the two - I mean, geez, my Front Squat STILL sucks after working to improve it for almost a year!

Workout #25: BJJ 4/9/09

Today was omoplata day. We worked omoplata from guard, from a side control passed position, and transition to armbar series.

I rolled with the instructor first and learned about two different mistakes I am making when rolling. I am staying to high when I'm in someone's deep half guard. I need to stay low and crush them with my weight.

I then rolled with three white belts, I was able to triangle all of them and land a couple of armbars. Other than that, I was mainly just working on my crushing and pressure.

That's crazy! I'd think it would hurt resting the bar on your thighs. Ouch!

Not really, it's only there for a moment and as of right now I'm only getting up 185lb, not enough to cause any damage.

Getting the technique right is a pain though, but it's coming along.

Workout #27: BJJ 4/13/09

This week, we will be going over the turtle. Specifically, a sweep from turtle grabbing a sleeve and rolling through your shoulder and then a kimura from that same failed sweep. This is really just a return to a lesson I've had already.

I first rolled with a fellow blue belt. I beat him on points with various sweeps, but did not get a submission. I did make the same mistake twice however in trying to pass half guard I shifted my weight too much to one side allowing him to easily bump me over. I need to keep those types of mistakes from happening if I want to do well in tournaments.

Next I rolled with a white belt and tweaked my knee. I sat the rest of that round out.

I rolled with a purple belt. This was an interesting match because it told me two things: 1 I need to get a little more aggressive and 2 I'm not that far off in skill level from a purple. However, that little bit of experience goes a long way in my case. He submitted me countless times. He is very good, but I don't think I can learn from rolling with him just yet.

I rolled with a buddy of mine, he has close to a hundred pounds on me, and last time I allowed him to take it to me. This time I decided I would be very aggressive and it paid off. I was able to submit him with some type of choke I had never done before. I don't even know the name of it, but it was difficult due to his size and strength.
