Craft Beers / Microbrews: What Are You Drinking?

Tried another Ballast beer, my buddy bought one of those 22oz or 23oz bottles. It was like a curry spiced beer. I wasn't a fan, to me it tasted like I was drinking Indian food. While I kind of like Indian food, this just wasn't for me.

I also tried a chocolate/vanilla porter from a company that starts with W but the name slips my mind right now. It wasn't too flavorful but it was a good beer overall.

Speaking of...

Had both of these recently. Both delicious and local.

Sipping on this one right now. I've always loved this one. Brewed down in New Orleans.

Lucky guy to drink fresh Abita!

Just ordered a bottle of Goose Island's 2015 Bourbon County Brand stout. Its 14.5% and the taste from the bourbon barrel it was aged in is very noticeable. However it is really good, just be ready for the taste of bourbon.

Genny Chocolate Salted Caramel beer.....wow, it's not craft but it's really good, I was shocked and now it's sold out everywhere in my area, if anyone sees it I'd recommend picking it up

Doest it really taste like coconut?

Have a 4-pack and I cracked the first one open yesterday. It's good but a bit overwhelming. You need to really be into coconut. I'll finish the others but prefer ten fidy and dale's pale as my go to from Oskar Blues.

Excellent beer; Genny really going in a new direction lately with their new batches of beers

Evil Twin Brewing's "Even More Jesus", its a great imperial stout

gods bless Tavour, my new beer pimp who sends me small production, and highly rated beers. Each row is 4 deep in heaven.

Don't mind the milk and orange juice, they are props

Hell yeah!

Both Pliny's and Heady Topper are the best beers out there right now.

Gone Away IPA from Half Acre Brewery is similar but easier to find. Definitely a top 5 for me right now.

I prefer Blind Pig over Pliny, more citrus and pine.

After getting into stouts this year, I'm finding it pretty tough for me to enjoy anything but. Any other stout lovers have any recommendations? I'm not into anything too strong alcohol wise though, but anything super smokey or with chocolate is up my alley.

I'm also really into Rauchbier (dark smokebeer), so any recommendations for this would also be great.

Oskar Blues "Ten Fiddy" is a great stout

If you like stouts, you should try a few Porter's too. I love a good porter! Deschutes makes a good one called Black Butte Porter.

I went to left hand last Saturday.Sawtooth is a new favorite ale of mine. Had it on cask there and that was damn near an ale version of guinness.

Would love to see some Deschutes in Buffalo but I have never come across it

Black Butte Porter is a good beer. Porters are my second go to behind stouts.

I went on the hunt for it tonight, couldn't find it. Was told it's a west coast beer and distribution is kinda tough to get for it in NY. Not giving up though

Hmm im sure somewhere has it. There's a liquor store by me that has a whole boatload of craft beers sorted by regions. They have so many craft beer cases in there it's unbelievable. Im pretty lucky as im sure i get a quite larger selection than some.

I should search for some large liquor stores in Manhattan, I'm sure I'll find something similar!

I remember the last time I went to Denver, the liquor store was massive, had a crazy selection of craft beer.

Yup. Just got home from Boulder/Lemont area last Sunday and the one we went in had a huge selection and my cousin said it was "average".

Here's that Second Hand Smoke I was talking about. Not as good as the other stout in the photo though, and it wasn't the best smoked beer I've had. Will not repurchase

Sam smith's oatmeal stout is really good too if any of ya ever get the chance to try it.

Good stuff from NYC

Man i have had so many good beers lately. Have had a peanut butter black IPA from a local brewery called Watermark that was very good. Hmm...what else...a couple of good nitro porter called "Henry" from another local brewery. Glad this thread got bumped, lets get it going again.

There has been a huge surge of craft breweries here in Toronto over the last couple of years. Bellwoods in particular specializes in IPAs, DIPAs, big Russian stouts, Farmhouse Ales, and Sours..... they make fantastic beer.

I am heading to Florida friday. Near Sarasota, and looking for some suggestions. I know Cigar City will be on my list. For American breweries, my favs are hillstead, stone, ballast point, russian river, founders, sierra, bells... etc.

Living in CA Stone and Ballast Point have become so common. There are many small neighborhood type breweries that I prefer.

I hear ya... some of the new breweries are doing some pretty great things. That said, Double Bastard, Self-Righteous black IPA... and a few others are just fantastic. I did find this years Russian Imperial Stout was not as good as previous releases.

Ever been to Rok brewery? I had an interview out there last month and that place was a blast.

Just googled it... they have some cool looking beers...

For some reason i thought you were in Illinois

I had both of their brown ales. The double brown was great. I even brought a growler of it home with me on the flight :). I was there for an interview a month ago.

LOL a growler would add some weight to your luggage!

You have some fine breweries close to home too... one of the best beers I ever had was a 2009 bottle of Bourbon County Stout ...

Southwest, man :). 2 free checked bags under 50lbs!

I have had the 2014 BCS and man was it good. It was like 14% and had a beautifully strong bourbon flavor. I'm now living in NW indiana and for a smaller area there are a lot of good breweries within 15 miles in all directions. There are also a boat load of breweries up in southern Michigan, with Greenbush being my favorite of the group.
