Craft Beers / Microbrews: What Are You Drinking?

Where did you get that. It sounds like liquid candy! !!!

It's all over Western New York - made in Rochester by Genesee. They sourced a local chocolatier's salted caramel chocolate for their batch

had some of that 24 carrot golden ale....it was awful, they sell it really good on the bottle but all the flavors they say are in it, well they aren't, it tastes like a poorly made ale with a bit of hop

Darn, I have to crack mine open still. I'll temper my expectations

Anyone have recommendations on a very "smokey" stout?

Beer Geek Weasel Rauch Breakfast is a smoked stout. Personally, not my thing, but off the top of my head that should qualify.

my girl and I have been trying different pumpkin beers for the last month or so....so far I think my favorites are a local brewery Turkey Hill Brewing but they didn't sell it for take out. And Terrapin's Pumpkin.

My friend and his dad swear by Pumpking but I wasn't a fan.

Thanks man, hope it's real burnt n bitter!
Sometimes I like my chocolate stout, sometimes I like it real smokey. Goes well with BBQ

I think they're really going for that bacon flavor, but I don't know how it translates.

I had a German Rauchbier once and it was like drinking kielbasa. It was a very smooth beer but not my favorite memory

^^^ nice find. I'm not a big fan of chile in beer, but it wasn't overpowering. Overall, a pretty unique and well-done beer

got some Ballast Calm Before the Storm, I enjoyed it, I've only had one so far but I like the subtle flavors and the finish of the coffee....a lot of coffee beer is overpowered but this one isn't, I just notice a hint at the finish

Dude, this beer is amazing...the bitter coffee flavor, once it goes down the throat, is refreshing. My brother and I crushed quite a few of these this summer.

my buddy I was with went to their brewery on his honeymoon and said their beer was really good....so I tried the calm before the storm, he was going to get one of the bigger bottles but decided against it

we have a local pizza place and the owners son got into craft beers, they put on classes once or twice a month on beer.....well anyway he opened a craft beer shop/bar, it's like a bar and huge selection of craft beers for take out....it's like an adult toys r us, but I plan on trying more ballast beers

we are having a get together on Saturday and talked about all going there and getting different beers and having like a pot luck of craft beer

Picked up a few Map of the Suns from The Rare Barrel on Saturday. Fantastic sours

Victory at Sea is great for winter. Had their Habanero Sculpin this summer and it was better than I expected. Saw a bunch of releases from them for Oktoberfest and some pumpkin beers but I didn't pull the trigger on any of them.

I brew as well and have on hand a dry stout brewed to 5% or so @13gal and aged in a 15 gal dads hat rye whiskey barrel that was still holding some of its spirits! This was brewed two years ago aged for 6 mon in barrel after ferment bottle conditioned and now it tases like whiskey and chocolate. It won 2nd place in a local contest last year but was nowhere near as good as it is now!

Holy mackerel...I can't imagine the setup you must have to do all that!

I worked down the street from the new ballast point brewery for most of the summer. I attribute that to my disturbing lack of a full six pack that season

Anyone else pick up the winter mix 12pack release by sierra nevada?

Not yet, although word is 2015 Barrel Aged Narwhal just dropped in Buffalo, so if I'm buying any Sierra Nevada it's going to be that

Mexican Logger by SKA Brewing is one of the best brews ever! Too bad it is only available during the summer months.

Now that it is cooler out, Third-Eye IPA by Steamworks in Colorado is pretty good!

Man, you need to come to Colorado if you think that is one of the best. Ska is good, but pretty average in comparison to other options here.

I'll come to Colo. Have you ever been to Oskar Blues brewery?? If so what'd you think?

I'm actually from the southern part man. Not a ton of craft brews, but SKA is a stronghold down here haha. What's your favorite Colorado brews/breweries? I also like the Colorado Native line up.

Ah, nice! When I'm not drinking tequila, I am usually drinking an IPA or PA. My favorites currently are Avery Maharaja, Great Divide Fresh Hop, and Chain Reaction Pale Ale (coming to bottle soon). Of course, Oskar Blues is always in rotation as well.

I've never been a huge fan of Breckenridge, but they just opened the flagship brewery a mile from my house, so we have been riding our bikes over there and hanging on the river.

I see. My favorite brewery down this way is Steamworks Brewing. They have some pretty good beers on tap but only about 3 available in stores around here.

Yeah, you are a lucky dog. The Durango area is one of the most beautiful anywhere. We try to get to Telluride at least once or twice a year.

I'll dive into my Maharajah tomorrow

Doest it really taste like coconut?

Oh man...so good! Like an Almond Joy. Only 6.5% too, not too heavy. Quite a treat! Lots of sweet coconut in this one.

I was gonna say let me know how it is. But, this will suffice. Im not the biggest coconut fan but would definitely still give a pints a try.

Don't know if this was mentioned or not but "innis and Gunn" is a Scottish brewery that brews a variety of types of beer and ages them in wood barrels or in wood chips. They have an ale aged in a rum barrel that is pretty good.

Tried another Ballast beer, my buddy bought one of those 22oz or 23oz bottles. It was like a curry spiced beer. I wasn't a fan, to me it tasted like I was drinking Indian food. While I kind of like Indian food, this just wasn't for me.

I also tried a chocolate/vanilla porter from a company that starts with W but the name slips my mind right now. It wasn't too flavorful but it was a good beer overall.
