Okay, so I finally got a chance to make my NTBM Chocolate Banana Better Protein Bars! I purchased these Protein Bars with my own money, even though I'm a rep.
I modified the recipe by substituting equal parts of Walden Farms Calorie Free Syrup for honey, and only a tablespoon of water instead of what's on the directions. I also made half of the batch with N2Mix added in. Here's how it turned out:
W/O N2Mix Review
This batch turned out to be very gooey. I'm going to put these in the freezer to keep longer, and also harden up. I'm going to separate the bars with wax paper so they don't stick to each other.
Flavor was good, but definitely more of a chocolate/peanut butter flavor with very light banana aftertones. It was a good, natural taste, nothing artificial about it at all. If anything, I'd mix in some fresh banana to give it more flavor, however it's not bad at all!
With N2Mix
This batch turned out a great consistency, much firmer and denser though I was surprised that it did not have any crunch to it. I guess the whey crisps got soggy with the PB, syrup and water. I used the dried fruit N2Mix, so it is a fruitier taste to it with chunks of dried fruit goodness! I really like these, added protein and dried fruit flavor along with denser consistency = win! I'm going to have to get more N2Mix for my future protein bars!
OVERALL:
The banana flavor doesn't come through strong or artificial but it is there in a subtle way. I actually really like that aspect, since most banana supplements are so overpowering it's unbearable. These are good chocolate peanut butter bars with a hint of banana! I'd definitely recommend these as a semi-sweet bar with great nutritional value.
