If by some chance if was "evolution" it is going in a negative direction. Maybe nature purging the most damaging parasite to ever exist?
Scientifically I "think" it is known that our genetics were of a much purer stock a couple thousand years ago. Inevitably with the world having such a small population(I am a creationist not an evolutionist, so I will avoid this debate, eh dsade? gets old :boggled

that people often met their own genetics through arranged marriages and the fact that small villages didnt really have much choice.
Over time this causes genetic damage. Now add in all the chemicals and medicines of the modern day. Mental disorders once being a less common thing(though back in the day seen as witchcraft, or a curse, or other weird stuff) is becoming so common.
In the last 100 years the sheer amount of "advances" in science has introduced our bodies to radiation, and all kinds of new poisons. Think of cancer treatments and x-rays.
Point being, humans were at an era of a peak, and now we seem to be falling off that peak back downwards in a horrific spiral. Mutations, weaker immune systems with each generation, the rise of special needs classes in schools. Its running rampant.
And it will eventually cause extinction if it is an evolutionary perspective. Because with the way it looks, it seems more of a natural purging of one species to preserve the others. Without man, the world is in a balance, with man, we are like a parasite siphoning the very life force from the planet.
I mean either route, evolution, or creationism, our reign on this planet is meant to come to an end.
