Are chin-ups good for lats?

I always thought chinups were more for biceps until i saw a dorian yates video on back and he said chin ups are actually better for hitting lats than pull ups because of the range of motion. What is everyones take on this? chin ups or pull ups?

Both are good if you ask me. Agreed that chin ups help hit your Bis a little better, so they fit into my "pull" day well.

Sometimes ill do pulldowns, and then finish the set with chin ups.

I think weighted pull ups have given my lats more width, while weighted chin ups have given them more length.. I also use and feel it more in my lats with the pull ups..

to be clear, pullup=palms toward the body grip = more bi less back
chinup=palms away from body=more lat

is this the nomenclature you guys are using, cause i think OP had it reversed?

Killerkandia perhaps has it reversed?

maybe i am wrong?

ive always seen the oppisite and used the oppisite,

towards body, more bicep, but CHIN UP

away from body, more back, PULLUP

Pull downs are palms out, like pullups are palms out.

chinups is a close grip, plams towards you, where you pull your chin up past your hands

chin ups dont have to be close grip, they can be shoulder width. pullups work more of the inner back and chin ups work lats better because of the range of motion

i hate chin ups and pull ups and my lats are damn good without em, i know im gonna take a ton of crap but i think there veryy overrated and not essential.. Id do some bodyweight pullups maybe and thats it..

palms facing away is a pullup, palms facing in is a chinup. Chinups work more of the lower lat.

A lot of people comment on how wide I am. I alternate chinups and pullups for back width - deadlifts and rows for thickness. Pretty basic. The only thing I change is the type of rowing I do.

how often can you do pull ups or chins? i just do them with my back work out which is every 6 days. can i throw in a day in between then to do more pull ups? i like doing them and i feel 6 days is too long of a wait in between

I'm doing dc training 3 days a week, so every other workout I train back. On one back day I do chins and the next i do pullups. Every week i've increased my weight or reps, so I know i'm not over training.
