I think you are being far to conservative with your numbers as well. 45% of Americans have pre-existing conditions...but how about we think bigger...70% of Americans are overweight and 40% are obese - a major pre-existing condition that correlates with higher death rates and worse outcomes in Covid infections.
Now, add in the % of normal weight individuals with pre-existing conditions. I would be we are at 80% or more of Americans at risk for this disease.
The data that is out there suggests that in order for us to reach herd immunity, without any other better intervention first, more than 2M Americans will die. That's the losses of WW2 every year for the next 5 years as an example. Maybe the data I have at this point is not accurate, but it's accurate enough that I can't believe it won't be at least half that. The math is simple.
And to be clear - I'm not arguing against you - I'm arguing WITH you. I think you're arguments are restrained
I do agree that a lot of people are looking for globalism at the expense of America. There was an article today saying how "European leaders believe that Biden will repair the relationships that Trump has damaged". Well, honestly, maybe I don't see a need to repair those relationships. It's a "please sir, may I have another" situation. Like it is some privilege for us to be in an international relationship where we pay for things and provide support and aid and get almost nothing in return. Just like Trump with the WHO funding. We spent WAY more than any other country on WHO and I can see an argument that it is necessary - but what are we getting for paying for everyone else's share? Why do we need to repair relationships like this?
It's like an abuser saying, "You left me because I hit you every day. But leaving me was really bad and you owe me a lot before I'll let you come back."
