I have depression & anxiety and recently my doctor put me on an adjunct drug to help. It's called Rexulti (brexpiprazole). It's classified as an anti-psychotic, but at the low dose I'm taking of 1mg, it doesn't exert those kinds of effects.
Unfortunately, brexpiprazole increases prolactin levels. I'm going into my doc later this month so I'll have him check my prolactin levels and see where they're at, but my libido is absolutely dead.
Effect of Brexpiprazole on Prolactin An Analysis of Short- and Long-Term Studies in Schizophrenia, the effects on prolactin from brexpiprazole are pretty minimum. But, it's still a concern of mine.
I was thinking of trying bromocriptine with it, but it has a drug interaction warning.
Thanks,
SS
Mechanism Of Action
The mechanism of action of brexpiprazole in the treatment of major depressive disorder or schizophrenia is unknown. However, the efficacy of brexpiprazole may be mediated through a combination of partial agonist activity at serotonin 5-HT1A and dopamine D2 receptors, and antagonist activity at serotonin 5-HT2A receptors.
Pharmacodynamics
Brexpiprazole has affinity (expressed as Ki) for multiple monoaminergic receptors including serotonin 5-HT1A (0.12 nM), 5-HT2A (0.47 nM), 5-HT2B (1.9 nM), 5-HT7 (3.7 nM), dopamine D2 (0.30 nM), D3 (1.1 nM), and noradrenergic α1A (3.8 nM), α1B (0.17 nM), α1D (2.6 nM), and α2C (0.59 nM) receptors. Brexpiprazole acts as a partial agonist at the 5-HT1A, D2, and D3 receptors and as an antagonist at 5-HT2A, 5-HT2B, 5-HT7, α1A, α1B, α1D, and α2C receptors. Brexpiprazole also exhibits affinity for histamine H1 receptor (19 nM) and for muscarinic M1 receptor (67% inhibition at 10 βM).

According to this study,Breast cancer, hyperprolactinemia, infertility
Brexpiprazole can cause hyperprolactinemia, likely due to central dopamine D2 antagonism. Elevations in prolactin may result in infertility in either men or women, or other endocrine abnormalities. Close monitoring for adverse endocrine effects is advisable during use of brexpiprazole. Some human breast cancers may be prolactin-dependent and therefore brexpiprazole should be used cautiously in those who have a history of breast cancer.

So, I was wondering if there are any OTC supplements that can reduce prolactin levels? Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.Bromocriptine: (Moderate) The prolactin-lowering effect of bromocriptine at the anterior pituitary may be antagonized by medications that increase prolactin levels, such as the atypical antipsychotics. The atypical antipsychotics elevate prolactin to various degrees. Like other drugs that antagonize dopamine D2 receptors, the elevation in prolactin from atypical antipsychotics can persist during chronic administration. Monitor the patient for reduced response to bromocriptine. Atypical antipsychotic therapy may aggravate diabetes mellitus and cause metabolic changes such as hyperglycemia. If bromocriptine is taken for diabetes, monitor for worsening glycemic control.
