Cue some asshole to bring up Smolov or the Bulgarian system of maxing out every single dayTell your son to give me a squat routine please![]()
The fact that I need to work hard to keep my squats over my bench is pretty telling, lol. my bests are 305/365/485. When I spent a year+ focused on just my deads (broke 5 yr old PR at 450, then kept going until I pulled 500 from rack and 485 from ground) my legs atrophied like crazy. it was the following spring when I wore shorts to the gym for the first time in a long time that I noticed how much my legs shrank, LOL! so I brought back squats and i can see my quads through my lifting pants now so I'm happy that I've put that size back on.It could be a focus driven thing for the guy. Your sons #'s are great tho. 225/400 and 16 years old. That impressive to me. Very. At one point in time I was very bench press focused and I'm sure as you all know I always somehow get dragged back in and hurt myself over and over again but I spent double or triple the amount of time bench pressing as I did squatting and my numbers told the tail. 353 bench and 415 squat lol. Those numbers are way too close together. When I benched 370 I don't think I squatted one time for like 3 months leading up to the bench press contest. I bet you I could barely do 400 at that time.

I like that, pretty simple although man a 10x3 would be time consuming unless I ran it as an EMOTM lol. I do that a lot with banded bench as an EMOTM since it's closer to 50%. I think Dave Tate had it listed as every 45 seconds on the last conjugate spreadsheet I used.Chad Waterbury had a good power build program that incorporated 4 x 6 with his 10 x 3 program. The 10 x 3 were for the big 3 bench, squat and deadlift, and any accessory work was 4 x 6. You start at 70 % of your 1rm and whenever you hit the goal on the last set you add 5 lbs the next week. If you didn’t hit the last set weight stayed the same for the following week. It was very effective at building muscle and strength. You build for 12 weeks, then de-load for one week then start a new 12 week cycle.
I know, it's funny how they gravitate to all things that look easy and foolish.Cue some asshole to bring up Smolov or the Bulgarian system of maxing out every single day![]()
Funny enough, my greatest strength gains in a short period of time were obviously back in the beginning when I was first getting started but my full body routine had me doing everything for 3 to 4 sets of six reps. Six reps for me was like the magic number in between size and strength for a long time. Nowadays six reps is hard for me on most exercises and the reason why is because the weight is still heavy but the muscular endurance that I have for that weight makes it very taxing I don't know if I'm saying this correctly three sets of six where I'm damn near close to failure on my six rep is just so much harder for me than three sets of 10 when I'm the same distance away from failure. If I did four heavy sets of six on the deadlift or squat and I was getting right around failure on every set it would one take me at least a half an hour to 40 minutes to finish my squats and deadlifts and two I would be zapped afterwards I would do a ton more exercises but the meat and potatoes is finished. The fact that I need to work hard to keep my squats over my bench is pretty telling, lol. my bests are 305/365/485. They were running a percentage based program at school but I never did catch the name of it. it was a lot of 4x6's etc and most of the training was appropriately around 65-80% but it was only one a time a week. so 2-4 times per month He would also have a squat session with me where we would hit heavy singles. I actually think at his age and experience level (1 year of squats almost) that this sorta modified texas method was a solid approach for him. he definitely benefits from more than 1 session per week on squats (and bench) but because of the way the high school lifting program worked they usually had:
cardio day
bench day
squats day
power clean day
dealers choice day (or make up day if you missed one of the prior 4)
so it's a good layout, but he's at that age where he could be doing more volume IMO. he's still a newbie lifter with his eyes on the high school record (425 to 475 depending on weight class) whos probably never going to have better recovery than he does now...
Yeah rest was 1-2 minutes between sets on 10 x 3 and 1 minute on 4 x 6. Well that 10x3 was pretty much all you did that day if I remember correctly. We had a guy doing this one on here a good while back. This may not be the same program but he would do the 10 sets of 3 one day, then the other days he did the accessories. So it ended up being a train each muscle group twice a week situation. I know there was a little more variation than that, but the 10 sets of 3 days were basically dedicated to the movement. It looked very effective, and I know he liked it. I just can't remember who it was that was running it for a while.I like that, pretty simple although man a 10x3 would be time consuming unless I ran it as an EMOTM lol. in that case, that would actually be a lot of fun I think...Well that 10x3 was pretty much all you did that day if I remember correctly. We had a guy doing this one on here a good while back. I’d do the lower body strength cycle. I have watched the Paralympic drug-tested bench-only guys and it’s f*cking insane how much these guys put up. Because their legs aren’t trainable (or flat out missing), they’re essentially a whole weightclass lower than they’d be in open powerlifting. And because they train with full dedication just to their upper body, they make even better progress.Well, going by my mood and attitude I need to set some goals asap. Why? I'm getting bored and I'm finding myself snapping at ppl a bit and I'm really irritable out of nowhere. I'm itching to fight, but I don't want to spar, I want to fight. I'm only in a good mood when I'm in the gym or stoned on the couch eating junk (although I have swapped out all the junk in the house for healthier high protein alternatives) a PBJ and some Greek yogurt replaced the poptarts and Oreos lol. Work is busy and that is a bit stressful at times but I'm doing well so I shouldn't complain. Been
Other then that, I'm looking good, I'm lean and full dispite being lighter on the scale. My 195 looks bigger then my older 200-205pics. I don't need to bulk but if I start cutting it's not going to last long because I probably don't have more than like 5-8 pounds that I can lose comfortably. And it's not something I want to maintain anyways. I don't wanna blast anything hard either because I wanna save that for my Bulk
So..... With all the things I've mentioned, I only have 2 options.
Option 1. Dedicate this block to strength, lower body focused, eat enough to make progress but stay under 200, 205 tops. Mild cycle, probably test only, maybe pop some orals pre workout 2X week for my squat sessions.
Option #2. I cut off my left foot, maybe below the knee, get a peg leg and start training for the 2027 special Olympics in Chile. Im definitely a little retarded so I'm already qualified as a multi sport athlete.
What do you guys think![]()
I've seen it. Some of them get strapped to the bench and the numbers are insane.I’d do the lower body strength cycle. I’m talking like a 240lb weightclass with tested guys putting up like 500lbs in some cases - without leg drive or any arch.
I think the way it works in a lot of them is you pay your membership, then you find a coach to work with you there. Might as well talk to them to find out what weight gloves you should get before going to get them.I get the desire to fight though too. I have a real strong hankering to "compete" lately but I haven't decided what that is. I was actually shopping bikes the other day contemplating preparing for winter indoor BMX and then I found out the local indoor BMX track closed permenantly this past spring, so thats out. I've been thinking again about going back to the local boxing gym. it's of high interest to me, I just have no idea where to start there other than to order some gloves and just show up I guess.
Yeah there is one down the road from my office, he said 16oz. I haven't been in there in 2 years so I might swing by to double check schedules etc and see if I can motivate to buy some gloves...I think the way it works in a lot of them is you pay your membership, then you find a coach to work with you there. I keep thinking about this. Mostly I miss fighting a bit, and I honestly think out of all martial arts boxing is probably one of the most useful in a self defense scenario. Especially considering how they push sparring and developing timing. That is what really counts in real world situations. If you have timing, precision, and decent hands you are not going to be an easy target. I love karate and the like, but many of those martial arts do not spend enough time actually sparring or fighting to be effective in the real world. If you don't come from a fighting gym/dojo you have a pretty decent chance of getting your ass kicked trying to do a kata while being attacked. Just saying... That is why a lot of my training was at a Martial Arts / MMA gym, so we got to actually do a lot of sparring and experiencing hitting and getting hit. Those are very important in a fight.Yeah there is one down the road from my office, he said 16oz. I would gain great value from learning how to not get hit, lol. I'm pretty sure every fight I ever got into I only did well because I could take a lot more hits than my opponentI keep thinking about this. Since they are about my age, I may be able to help a bit. Ik you tagged smont but I feel I should give my take on it. I’m 170lbs so that would mean for me:@Hyde
I'm trying to set some strength goals for the 16-21 year old group of fighters I have working with me. Some of these kids are brand new to lifting weights in a semi serious manner. Meaning that they've messed around with the weights a little bit but they never followed any kind of program and they don't know how to do everything correctly.
Bench press your BW 3-5 reps
Squat 1.5 x BW 3-5 reps
OHP 0.5 x BW 3-5 reps
Rack pull 2x BW 3-5 reps
Deadlift 2x BW 1 rep
There not working on all these lifts, some guys are, but most of the guys are focusing on 2 of the lifts, 1 upper 1 lower.
Am I setting the bar too high for them? There fighters, not powerlifters but I feel like these numbers should be very attainable for young men athletes.
Lmao, peptides are blowing up like crazy on TikTok rn so that’s probably why. There’s lots of kids out there looking to take them and seeing mk677 as some miracle GH drug to increase their height and muscle mass.I got a 17-year-old kid asking me about Reta and mk-677 and I'm just like bud we can't talk about drugs and your 17 and your just lazy shut up and run. They all ask me whether supplements they should take but they want to know what I'm on too, and they're not talking about supplements so I got to play this f****** game all the time lol
Got my work cut out for me.
double edged sword. one the one hand, yeah... no drugs kids. mmmmkay? on the other hand, good to see the youth wanting to be more alpha.Lmao, peptides are blowing up like crazy on TikTok rn so that’s probably why. Smuggling controlled pharmaceutical drugs like Reta across an international border with quantities that immediately qualify as intent to distribute will be radically more severe than just “getting detained,” I promise you.Peptides have been blowing up like crazy, people keep posting about them online targeted towards teens, it’s mainly transformation videos where one kid took it and then magically grows 3 inches and gets a bulging jawlinetaking peptides has become a joke saying that people “ascend” when they take them, but it’s really appealed to some kids who want to become taller, stronger, more attractive, etc.
I suppose it’s better than steroids at least.
One of my buddies came up to me recently and he is hopping on retatutide, ipamorelin, and like 5 other ones he found online. When I asked him where he’s getting them he says the Chinese black market has insane prices, he showed me and the prices are like 10% of what they sell them for in the USA and Canada. So he is going to order them to the USA and drive down to pick them up and bring them over the boarder.
It was insanely stupid, first of all if he gets busted with that I don’t know what they will do. At worst I suppose he can get detained and at best if they catch him they will just confiscate it. But I highly doubt they will turn a blind eye.
On top of that I wouldn’t doubt those cheap Chinese suppliers, if it sounds too good to be true it is too good to be true.
I told him to just find a reputable Canadian site and buy them there even if they are way more expensive, also don’t hop on 6 peptides at once.
Yeah, thanks for the info. I knew mk is not a peptide but I always thought Reta was one.I don't really think peptides are better than steroids, they both mess with things, and both have the potential for negative side effects. Steroids are just more stigmatized. Bottom line if going to the gray / black market both are at risk for not being what you ordered. Both have a risk of being contaminated, and depending one why someone is taking something peptides are often not going to give the results that steroids do.
Also, retatrutide is not a peptide, it is a drug that antagonizes some peptides, and MK is a secretagogue not a peptide, I think a lot of people have no clue what they are talking about when they discuss peptides. Not saying you, but most of the things being sold at research chemical companies are not actually peptides, they just tend to get lumped into that category for some reason.
Yeah, that’s why I told him it’s stupid haha. Don’t mess with border **** ever.Smuggling controlled pharmaceutical drugs like Reta across an international border with quantities that immediately qualify as intent to distribute will be radically more severe than just “getting detained,” I promise you.
Thanks brother I appreciate that!@Shadowblaze
DM me if you have any peptide questions I work as a rep for ma research chemicals and I don't b******* people you can ask anybody here they'll tell you that I will tell you the truth even if it means me not making sales. With that being said there are some useful peptides I do not know of any oral GH or healing peptides that work so do not waste your money on those. Mk677 does work but it does not work like HGH. It's better for recovery and to make you hungry
I edited my post to be a little more specificThanks brother I appreciate that!
I don’t see myself using peptides in the near future, it’s more so something I may be open to trying later in life mainly for my autoimmune problems. I’ve been looking into Thompson alpha 1 and it’s seems pretty cool for its immune system benefits.
But if I ever have questions I’ll shoot you a message.
Yeah, stupid autocorrect hahaYou mean Thysomin alpha 1 probably
I got a email from his wife saying he's very sick, in the hospital and will probably be out for 2 weeks. No details tho.
Peptides better then steroids? Not even in the same atmosphere. I'm also realizing that people have absolutely no clue what peptides are, they've lumped everything into one category just like they did with sarms.I don't really think peptides are better than steroids, they both mess with things, and both have the potential for negative side effects. Steroids are just more stigmatized. Bottom line if going to the gray / black market both are at risk for not being what you ordered. Yes I would 100% recommend HGH over any HGH or healing peptides. HGH plus the healing peptides is something that I like a lot.Yeah, when it comes to peptides, I think for the most part they are better for health stuff than growth. Good for growth hormone replacement, or enhancement, but not going to be a game changer regarding anabolic action. The regenerative peptides are great, but using peptides for bodybuilding you need to be on some other stuff to really take advantage of them. However honestly for what you need to spend for a lot of the peptides to run them you might as well just run 2IU of HGH.
So he is going to order them to the USA and drive down to pick them up and bring them over the boarder.

Yeah they are really on your ass when it comes to the Blaine border, if they suspect you may be up to something they will pull you aside and run checks on you. That happened when a family member came here to visit us from Germany and we went to Seattle, they saw that they only had German identification and believed they could be up to something so they literally pulled us aside for a few hours, I don’t recall everything that happened entirely but they made him sign some stuff and then eventually they just let us go.since you and I live sorta close to each other I'll tell you that border crossing in Blaine is no joke, he better shove them deep up his bunghole if he's trying to cross with contraband. I've gone up to vancouver twice for short stays. once overnight for a concert and the second time to look at a CST-V for sale. Both times when BP realizes you've jumped back and forth in a matter of hours they give you the third degree and immediately assume you are just smuggling drugs.
We are about an hour south, my office is about 30 minutes outside of Seattle. tbh Seattle, Tacoma, and Portland are still 3 of my favorite cities although much of the culture is gone, all the old rock clubs have been replaced by amazon sky scrapers, the crime and fentanyl problems are through the roof but there is still a lot of good times to be had on the water front, comedy clubs, etc. Music is a bit harder to find now days though. Are you in Seattle? Or in that area? I’ve only ever been to the states once or twice and both times was to Seattle, I really like the states though. I’ve always considered moving to Portland or Seattle later in life if I can get a job there. I love Seattle and that entire NW area of the USA so it would be cool to spend some time living there
Dang that’s a shame, I feel that Vancouver, Portland and Seattle are similar in terms of the setting and weather. But from what I know Seattle and Portland are a bit more green and fast paced which I like and also have some more culture.
