A Day In The Life Of Rocket

I use to incorporate rack pulls into my workouts but then I realized I was getting more of a workout trying to set up the power rack and load the bar than actually doing the rack pulls so I don't do them very often anymore. I'll typically incorporate deadlift before rack pulls.

I'm just looking for something a little different.

I tried a few rack pulls yesterday morning, I just could not "feel" them so I did bent rows instead !!

I know wfreiling said he does rackpulls below the knee, but I don’t feel I get as much out of them at that height - I prefer them a few inches lower and try to set my torso a bit leaned over, how I would be at that phase of a floor deadlift. Otherwise, I just end up finishing a partial squat with the bar in my hands.

So if you try them anymore, maybe play with the height. I have done them for high reps (sets of 12-15) as well, but because you need to reset every rep and not bounce I think they shine better for heavier work ranges (3-8).

I think as a "bodybuilder" you would get more out of the Romanian Deadlift than the rack pull more hip and lat stimulation. I see rack pulls as more of a performance builder than a hypertrophy specific movement. Not saying they can't be trained that way, just I think they are better suited for performance goals.

I haven't done these lately. Time for some stiff leg deadlifts !

If you want them to hit that thickness more I would go with an RDL over an SLDL, very similar, but you can load a romanian a lot heavier, and in my opinion a healthier option for the lower back.

Yeah SLDL is very specific: you are intentionally doing a deadlift with the low back. It’s direct erector training, and if you lose your brace for a moment you’re probably going to get hurt.

Right and to me a romanian is like a lower rack pull that you never put down.

After yesterday, I will be doing yard debris dead lifts, my back hurts already !!

Mrs. Nos wants a variety shot. Not sure how many different items you have. She also says whatever you did with the light this time was better "less yellow" in her words. (She's a professional wedding photographer so she gets super into this stuff.)

In the last two photos you have seen my entire collection of Apex Alchemy products, I have just recently discovered how well they work.

You gotta find a variety of spots with perfect lighting ;) It's like taking a picture of yourself. The right lighting makes the difference!
