2010 College Football Season

That right there is why I have never liked UT graduates. They think they are better than the rest of Texas when they are just liberal douchebags for the most part. They belong in the PAC-10.

A lot of the people from the Dallas/Fort Worth area are the same as well in my experience. Maybe that is where UT grads move after college.

I....agree wholeheartedly and think these statements border on certain fact. I agree with you... :wtf1:

IMHO, this is A&M being like, **** you, we dont need you to UT. Only took 100 years...results could be scary. LSU-A&M will be a bad mother ****ing rivalry.

Listening to the radio today on the drive home it sounds like they might try to work out the Big 12. ESPN is supposedly offering them a nice TV contract. I really do hope A&M tells them to **** off though and goes their own way.

So now the future of the Big 12 hinges on what the Aggies decide to do.

At least we haven't had to hear much about the Brett Favre BS yet. This is a nice substitute for the summer lull in football.

Texas is staying. They scurred. Not a surprise. All eyes look to A&M now. Their regents will meet this week. Im hearing Texas' move may have been driven by an ever swaying OU. A&M and OU were tempted to leave them behind. Still might.

About as tempted as you are to change your name to SUCKNUTS. Ok, bad example. Im not tempted at all.

I've been called SUCKNUTS on here so many times I might as well change it to that.
So what I'm not clear on is whether or not the commits by Nebraska(Big Ten) and Colorado(Pac Ten) are binding or will they remain in the Big 12.

They are gone. Thats done.

But Texas showed their true colors and ****ed everyone in the ass with this one. They are scared.

All eyes look to A&M now.

“Texas A&M is a proud member of the Big 12 Conference and will continue to be affiliated with the conference in the future,” school president R. Bowen Loftin said in a statement.

Translation: "Daddy got us a raise in allowance, so we're staying."

TAMUs and Loftin's twitter pages have crashed from all the posts.

Loftins FB page is...brutal.

A&M forums are exploding/melting down. People are emailing the 12th Man Foundation (Alumni) and canceling their season tickets left and right. Things are pretty damn crazy there. This is a catastrophic mistake for TAMU.

Some highlights from the UT press conference.

"I wont be discussing the Pac-10 offer"

"Ten is a good number. It used to be very common."

Oh.

"We dont have any new deals but we'll let the Big 12 handle that."

"ABC/ESPN been very helpful in all of this"

Apparently, there are no deals or anything. They just wanted public statements from everyone saying they are still in. Wow. Just wow.

They will play all 9 teams in the conference. Wow. They are so ****ing epicly pathetic.

"Our conference is strong. When you play OU, A&M, K-State has been strong...we could get 2 BCS bids."

Disgusted doesnt begin to describe how I feel about all this. I dont think I am going to transfer anywhere in state after seeing this ****. One university is full of horrible people, the other is spineless.

All said and done, I feel defeated.

Kevin Scarbinsky pretty much summed it up:

"Texas made it official in a statement released at the dinner hour that it was going to remain in the Big 12. In short order, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M got in line and pledged their allegiance as well. They didn’t seem to mind that Texas would not only retain its kingpin status, but strengthen it.

Texas A&M was sick to death of Texas. The Aggies were sick of losing to the Longhorns. They were sick of hearing about the Longhorns. They were sick of being just another school in the state of Texas and living under the thumb of THE University of Texas. It sounded like a serious and understandable case of little-brother syndrome, the kind this state hasn’t seen since Alabama owned Auburn in football from 1973-81. It was so serious that A&M strongly resisted the idea of doing what Texas was planning to do and going where Texas was planning to go when it came to choosing a conference home.

In the end, though, when it came time to stand up to Texas, much like on the field in their annual rivalry, the Aggies were all hat and no cattle.

Meanwhile, the SEC, which was content to add Texas A&M as a 13th member and then sit tight until it could find another good fit, hasn’t lost a thing. The league’s Plan A from the start was to stay at 12 members strong.

Good luck to Texas and its little brothers as they try to keep up."

TAMU regents were not allowed to vote. Decision rests with AD, Pres, and other top leaders. TAMU fans are PISSED. Administration officials are going on a PR campaign to try and fix some of it but its just not going well.

I think the Big Ten came out with the best additions, but you gotta admit the Big 12..err..10..has to be the happiest. They still have a conference when nobody thought they'd survive the crumble.

Yeah, every fanbase left besides the ones that dont matter (Iowa St etc) actually hates this move. Longhorns included.

TAMU Scout.com said:
The saying goes that Texans like things bigger. So with this week’s public announcement by Texas A&M’s university president Loftin that his institution would forego a courtship by the Southeastern Conference to join the biggest collegiate athletic conference in the country to remain in a smaller Big 12 minus Nebraska and Colorado, needless to say it hasn’t gone over well with the Aggie faithful.

Since the announcement was released Monday evening, a firestorm of anger and criticism over the decision to stay in the modified Big 12 erupted from Texas A&M students, former students, and fans onto Loftin’s Facebook page, Internet sports information networks like Scout.com, and social networking web sites where fans and supporters congregate. More importantly for Texas A&M athletic director Bill Byrne and the 12th Man Foundation which is the fund raising arm of the athletic department, a significant group of donors have vehemently condemned the move and have threatened to cancel season tickets and remove sizeable pledges to fund upcoming capital projects including the planned multi-million dollar renovation of its baseball stadium that is scheduled to begin in the next seven months.

This Aggie revolt has come with its share of controversy as well. Calls to the athletic department have flooded phone lines while e-mails are jamming university mail boxes. Some of the comments from angry fans have not been gracious to say the least and in some cases have crossed the line, especially for Byrne‘s tastes. In an episode that is gaining widespread attention on the Internet and across sports talk radio programs around the state, Byrne was so offended by one particular e-mail that he left a threatening voicemail to one former student and challenged him to a face-to-face physical confrontation at his office. That voicemail was digitized and released on the Internet which has only fueled the current mutiny.

So what has the Aggies so riled up and why has the tease of joining the SEC become such an emotional and hot button issue that former students and high level university officials are coming to blows - literally? Actually, the list is long. It starts with wanting to play in the best college football conference in the nation and ends with needing to remove themselves from the oppressive shadow of big brother 100 miles away, the University of Texas.

While the drama of potentially separating from Texas has received the most headlines in the state’s press, the primary reasons for driving rank-and-file Texas A&M fans to the thought of joining the SEC is all about the product on the field and the cultural fit with the schools in the southeast. Aside from in-state rivals Texas and Baylor, Texas A&M has actually played LSU more times in its 100+ year program history than any other school in the Big 12 including Texas Tech. Baton Rouge is less than four hours from Houston where the greatest concentration of former students are located. Arkansas was a long-time rival in the old Southwest Conference and the two teams began a long-term neutral site series last year at the Cowboys’ new stadium in Dallas.

There’s also strong ties to SEC powerhouse Alabama. Before his successful and distinguished tenure with the Crimson Tide that made him a legend, Bear Bryant resurrected a downtrodden A&M program during his brief stay in College Station in the 1950’s highlighted by the legendary training camp at Junction, Texas that was made into a high profile movie several years ago. At that camp as a young player was Gene Stallings who would later go on to coach at Texas A&M and eventually coach and win a national championship at Alabama in the early 1990’s. It just so happens that Stallings currently sits on the university’s board of regents and has been rumored to be an integral player in bringing Texas A&M and the SEC to the table last week.

Aside from natural rivalries and a cultural fit, it ultimately boils down to the product on the field and the passionate game day environment and tailgating experience that has most Aggie fans drooling at the thought of joining the SEC. While the thought of playing LSU, Florida, Georgia, and Alabama is daunting for a football program that is still trying to rebuild after the destruction left by Dennis Franchione, these weekly match-ups in the SEC had A&M fans energized when word leaked over the weekend that SEC Commissioner Michael Slive was in College Station for extensive meetings with A&M officials.

And finally, with the University of Texas showing little interest in the SEC and focused on a move westward to the Pac-10, A&M fans saw the chance of a lifetime to not only move to an elite athletic conference but to also shed itself of its in-state rival that has dominated and overwhelmed many of the state’s universities on a wide range of issues but most clearly symbolized in the world of athletics.

Many Texas A&M fans interpret those actions to be hostile and limiting at times, and those feelings were certainly justified last week when Texas threatened to never play the Aggies again in any sport if they followed through with its plan to spurn the Longhorns’ brokered deal with Pac-10 and join the SEC. A&M stood its ground and continued its due diligence with the SEC over the weekend which spurred even more excitement among the fan base.

Loftin, Byrne, and selected members of the board of regents met behind closed doors Monday afternoon for what many Aggies felt would be a meeting to put the finishing touches on a recommendation to its board of regents to accept an invitation to the SEC.

But surprisingly, President Loftin emerged from those sessions to announce on his Facebook page that his team elected to stay in a smaller Big 12 Conference after a last minute Hail Mary proposal submitted by Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe promised both A&M and Texas over $20 million in annual TV revenues.

That left Texas A&M fans and stakeholders stunned and furious. They felt betrayed that university officials were lured to stay in a watered-down Big 12 Conference because of short term TV dollars. Hundreds of angry messages immediately flooded Loftin’s Facebook page and a call-to-arms began among the rank-and-file fan base and most importantly the school’s large donors.

This revolt could culminate this weekend. In an ironic twist to this story, Texas A&M had previously scheduled its annual athletics advisory council meetings in Austin for what is typically a comfortable handshake affair where the school’s top donors are wined-and-dined and given a state-of-the-union update from A&M officials. Byrne and Loftin are still on the agenda to speak, but there’s no question that there will be few handshakes and many uncomfortable moments as a vocal segment of the donor group plans to make a last-ditch plea to resurrect the SEC plan and put pressure on officials to listen to its customers. Several recent large on-line polls favor joining the SEC by a an overwhelming 85-90% mark.

Despite the overwhelming disdain for this Big 12 proposal (that has yet to receive guarantees from TV executives on the $20 million of revenues promised by Commissioner Dan Beebe) and the threats of donors pulling the plug on valuable funding, there’s been little evidence so far that A&M officials are reconsidering this controversial decision. So all eyes are on Saturday’s meeting and whether a face-to-face meeting with angry donors will sway Monday‘s decision.

  seriously funny

You're right if Texas goes to the Pac 10 then they're ruined. But since I'm a Sooner, I don't really care about what happens to them. I want OU to go to the SEC. As much as I hate to say it, the SEC is the toughest/best/meanest confrence to play in. I have lived in Alabama for two years now and this whole confrence hates each other.
The Big Ten can't stand up against the SEC most years. Do we remember the LSU vs ohio state national title? Or the Ohio state vs Florida title game?

DO WE REMEMBER THE LSU/PENN STATE GAME LAST YEAR???? I SURE THE HELL DO!!!!! WE ARE PENN STATE!!!! :liar:

Welcome Nebraska!!!! good to see a class act in my beloved conference. I was scared to almost have Mizzou in here..yuk!!! Finally, a big 10 east and a big 10 west and ONE conf champion (bucknuts/co champ). I hope this doesnt take away a OSU/PSU matchup.

There's already ONE Big Ten conference champion the 5 time champs THE Ohio State University.
I agree completely about Nebraska I feel they are a great fit in the Big Ten.
I think they will continue the OSU/PSU it's been the game the past 4-5 years as Michigan has struggled to remain competitive.

Well, 1. The SEC leads the Big Ten in all-time head to head competition.

2. The SEC leads the Big Ten in all-time bowl appearances, wins, and win percentage.

Facts speak for themselves....... And btw, I personally like PSU and especially Paterno. Lying isn't my strong point...

He knows this. I've posted all the stats multiple times over the last two years. Just let him be... or he'll start rambling on about cold weather, the NFL, etc., etc., blah, blah, blah. :34:

Most of us Sooners were raised to hate UT to the death, so why would we be wanting to follow them around like their buddy when we should say "screw you" to Texas and do whatever the phuk we want to!

Also, let me just add to this. We will call it, Arkansas Syndrome. Look at their roster when they were a power and now. Look at the hometowns. Arkansas was able to croot Texas hard because they played Texas. Once they left, it dwindled and they are pretty much in the BFE of America near no large center of croots. Its extremely hard for them to get big time rosters. OU would have the same issue.

Well, I see what you're getting at to an extent. But comparing Arkansas to OU in terms of tradition is a big difference. So, no not exactly the same.

Yes I realize that we croot from Texas, but we have some pretty good players in Oklahoma that sometimes even UT croots our high school players.

Most of what we're talking about has to do with population. Texas has 5 times the amout of people living in it as Oklahoma, and Oklahoma has double the amout that Arkansas does. More people means a larger pool to croot from...

Go ahead, guess what % of people on your team hail from Texas. Arkansas was a pretty big deal man.

what i meant was no more of the "co-champ" nonsense. 2005, Penn state big 10 champs while OSU were crowned "co champ". Same in 2008. It stole the thunder from my Lions..LOL

First time looking at this in months and it's still the same argument! Love it!

War Eagle!

ah, the south's oldest rivalry! GO DAWGS! my cousin has been at Auburn for 7 years now (got her masters degree there along with bachelors). she hates it that we have beaten yall 4 straight years in a row.

i love the auburn/ georgia game. always good football and yall are fun to hate on in a respectful way. unlike alabama, who we just hate outright.

and Kudos to auburn for never losing to TIM TEARBOW lulz.

Yeah, I do have more respect for Georgia than Alabama. I guess it's become I dont have to deal with them on a daily basis. Inbred loonies like rubberring just give me a sour taste in my mouth sometimes.. lol jk Shaun

Yet you need them. Its why your AD said that you would go wherever UT goes. If you went on your own, you would die a miserable death.

More like we earned them. Something UT has failed to do as many times as us. And I don't give a **** about what our AD said. Just because I'm a Sooner doesn't mean I agree with what he said or decides. It takes 2 to make a rivalry, 2! Part of the reason the rivalry is so big and pubilc is beacuse of OU. The ppl there made it happen. That old UT and Aggies rivalry sure hasn't been much for a long time. So before you go thinking Texas can do everything on there own and doesn't need anybody else, give credit where credit is due. After than you all can sucede from the nation and become your own nation full of gun happy libertarians. Whoop de doo!

Gun happy libertarians! Now I want to move there.:sombrero:
But seriously bro you guys ARE UT's bitches it's just a fact like my Buckeyes can't beat the SEC and while it kills me I can't argue it because it's true until we do something about it. The same holds true with OU being UT's bitch it is just so.

Id be happy to secede. But anyways, if you want to see what would happen if you went somewhere without Texas, see Arkansas. And dont move here. The south cannot take on more people from ****ty places with ****ty people who dont understand it and move here since their place of origin sucks.

thanks for taking it to insults, allow to bow out to the greatness that is Texas. Shouldn't we all be as lucky to come from such a fast and wonderful place that apparently has everything they need and supplies everybody else with all the things desirable. Where would the union be without Texas? I lived in Houston for 3 years and I don't miss it, but my opinion means nothing to ppl from Texas because they obviously know so much more. Thank you for proving me wrong and pointing out how Texas is the best and I must just be crazy to think otherwise. Yes sensei, you have taught soooo much.

All that I thought of Texas citizens was that they were really no different than anyone else, but you sir have proved me wrong. Thank you and I am officially unsubscribed from this thread. I wish all the best in the upcoming season. I was just here to have some fun and joke around, but I see now it can't happen in this thread. I will stick to the other forums here at AM. Au revoir.

Actually, that was targeted for the Ohio State guy but whatever. Sooner crying was inevitable. If good natured debate is your idea of football talk, then youre a *****. At least SEC fans actually understand what a rivalry means. Its not backslapping and a circle jerk.

Trust me, we are just fine. I would pay attention to this season.

true. mallet is going to have a great season im guessing. he has the most experience in the SEC if im not mistaken and he has one heck of an arm. hell, last year i cant believe we won that game against arkansas considering he had 5 TD's

I was being sarcastic I would never live in your ass backwards state.
In spite of your insults I'm not unsubscribing from this thread, it's just getting started. GO BUCKS!!!
BTW Texas A&M is Texas' bitches as well as OU. Always has been, always will be. I would hate to a fan of a team that's so clearly lesser than in my own state. Oh well I suppose 3rd best in a large state isn't too bad, or is it 4th best? Let's see 1. UT 2. TCU 3. Texas Tech 4. TAMU? based on recent history I would say this is about right.

So the chips start to fall.. Tex Tech says today they arent happy with UTs TV deal, they want a deal like the Big Ten where everybody gets paid the same. 2 years from now, this UT tv deal will be the nail that sealed the demise of the Big Crap.. err.. 12, 11, ..whatever it is.

OU will jump ship to the SEC, maybe the Big Ten, who will reel in Notre Dame in 2014. BCS and Notre Dames deal expires in that year, and theres no way NBC is gonna give that cash to ND when they can give it to the Big (more like Buck) Ten and get a real showing on TV. When that happens, ND jumps to the Big Ten, the payout is huge, an TT or OU (possibly both) comes and joins the Buck Ten to get their share of mega payolla.

And the odd thing is..Joe Paterno has been saying that for three years!! Who says you cant write traffic tickets, crap your pants, be and oracle, and still pretend you coach a top 25 football team.

Trust me, we are just fine. I would pay attention to this season.

Compare Arkansas from the SWC days to now. Its a huge difference.

Yeah man, people are dieing to get to Ohio. Texas is providing damn near the majority of the new jobs in the entire US while Ohio is losing grads and jobs like its their...job? Everyone is wanting to move to Texas, this is a fact. Austin has doubled in population size since 1990. I hate it, you are welcome to start taking them back. If you consider "unsubscribing" or "negging" people from this thread, you and anyone else should grow a pair. Im not here to be your friend. Thats not what football is about. Maybe you should worry about not signing one in state 5* recruit.

Youre naive as hell to think A&M is not a sleeping giant. They are like Alabama before Saban. Waiting. Or FSU before Bowden. They have everything they need except a franchise coach. If A&M goes SEC without UT and those people, you will see a new power emerge. They are the other Tier 1 school in Texas, Tech and TCU and anyone else have a ceiling well below A&M. If you widened your football vision, youd remember the A&M when RC Slocum was coaching.

Compare Arkansas from the SWC days to now. Its a huge difference.

Not really. It has been a roller coaster ride, up one season and down the next. I think most of that problem was Houston Nutt. Put a legitimate coach at the helm, (cough, Bobby Petrino, cough) and look what happens. Third year, built from next to nothing, and we are on the national scene. I would lookout for the flying circus this year.

Think of this:

We really do have what has been referred to as "brain drain" here in Ohio, which sounds terrible but we do lose a lot of our college grads to other states because of our economic situation. I know right that sucks we didn't sign any 5 star Ohio kids, what kind of kid grows up here and doesn't want to be a Buckeye?
I don't really have a problem with Texas many, many fine people reside there (and a few douches apparently) A&M isn't quite like Bama before Saban that might be wishful thinking on your part although I definitely agree that the ceiling is much higher than Tech and TCU. I was strictly basing that opinion on results and in recent years 4th is pretty accurate for A&M football.
For the record I have never and would never neg you or anyone else for something said in this thread. The sh!t talking is half the point of the thread so negging is WEAK.
