Well if you do them quick enough it'll feel like your pushing the same weight, except it's easier to balance.
I try not to get stuck doing any one pattern too long though, I give it 3-4 weeks then I change it up as far as the rep pattern is concerned. I alternate between pyramid, ramp weight up and ramp weight down.
But then again, that's what some of my old school weight lifting teachers in college used to teach me. They coached the track team, and they won nationals in their divisions multiple years in a row with those training regimes. So they had to be doing something right.
