I have never had dove, how much meat can you get off of one of those lil things? Just enough for a popper or two? How hard is it to get the birdshot out of the meat?

It’s not a lot of meat maybe 2 bites. So yeah 1 dove makes 1 popper. Bird shot is usually not hard as they are so small it usually passes through. When I clean them I usually feel for shot and if a bb is in there I just squeeze it out.


We usually hunt for 3-4 times for them and vacuum pack and save them up and cook one batch up. More of just a fun activity and a tradition than anything really. Then hopefully when the littles are older they can do the cleaning and show them how to prepare them!

Love dove. It’s quail with a little more gamey kick. I have some crane I need to cook from last fall. Might do that this weekend

I'm jealous of that, I see the TX guys out crane hunting and it looks awesome. we have swans up here but they are protected. I used to go out with a local guide for snow geese, not cause I didn't know how to hunt, but because he had land locked up in leases and hundreds of deeks so paying to hunt with him was always a blast, and after a while, he'd just start to invite us or let us hunt lease land he wasn't on for a given day (LOL). he always said if he saw a banded swan he was going to take it anyways and have it mounted by a friend so nobody would know lol.

More of just a fun activity and a tradition than anything really.

not a bad way to keep the skills up too in case you go after ducks/geese later!

That is the wife’s shotgun, I got her a Franchi I can’t remember the model affinity I think 20 gauge. It’s a really nice shotgun, basically a benalli but way cheaper price tag.


I’m right in there close to a PR. Also I should have noted it was touch and go and not like legal competition bench. Just wanted to test the waters to see where I’m at. After this training block I will bump my 1rep max numbers up and run another 8 weeks.
