Well unfortunately they jumped the gun and didn't have approval and cancelled, so I am now waiting to hear about an approval. Frustrating, but it is what it is.Man that is great….hopefully they will figure it out and come up with a solid game plan to bring you some healing and relief.
you're just a great big 'ol teddy bear these days!My MIL is now in town, so I am trying to see if I can get off. I forgot that my wife was no longer able to take a week off due to changing jobs and not having PTO yet. So, now I am requesting to be able to take tme off while she is here.
We have a running joke where she call's me her favorite child. LOL even bought me a shirt. So, we get along really well, and she does not get in the middle of things and keeps her opinions to herself even if there is an argument or something. So it works out well.you're just a great big 'ol teddy bear these days!
my wife's family are in town visiting next door for the week and my response was a bit different than yours. Since we put that fence up I told my wife "you know what they say about good fences?"
they make good neighbors, ha.
my wife's aunt is like her mom at this point since both parents have passed. they are polar opposites of us politically ever since about 2020. (prior to COVID it would be funny going to their house cause she's always been liberal, but he used to be conservative. so I told them one time it was fun to watch them argue on the couch cause it was like real life picture in picture, streaming CNN and FOX at the same timeSo, we get along really well, and she does not get in the middle of things and keeps her opinions to herself even if there is an argument or something. That's a real bummer man, I can't believe they didn't ensure they had the preauthorization from your insurance to do the MRI. Hope you get rescheduled soon enough.Well unfortunately they jumped the gun and didn't have approval and cancelled, so I am now waiting to hear about an approval. Frustrating, but it is what it is.
Had some good training over the weekend. I was able to get both my chest and lats a little sore. Just basic sessions broken down into pull, and push options.

Training seems to be going well, and lower volume, higher intensity seems to allow me to get the job done before my trouble areas lose stability due to fatigue.
Haha right, I think the conservative husband / liberal wife is a lot more common than most people think. Also, you know every once in a while I think they just seek out chaos and drama!my wife's aunt is like her mom at this point since both parents have passed. they are polar opposites of us politically ever since about 2020. but anyways if I'm hanging with them, I know well enough I'm not going down any political rabbit holes. I keep things lighter, and if politically dangerous topics come up, I keep to asking questions about science or humanity. I keep it gentler and I avoid arguments.
the ladies however... I swear my wife and her aunt will out of the blue just stick their fingers in politics bees nest to rile eachother up sometimes for no reason whatsoever
they do love each other though, travel together, we do happy hour together, thanksgiving etc so its not like there is a divider, but I have no idea why they have to start those fights ha. (well I probably do but whatever lol)
Agreed! That's a real bummer man, I can't believe they didn't ensure they had the preauthorization from your insurance to do the MRI. Hope you get rescheduled soon enough.
Good to hear about the training progression though. And glad you get along with the MIL. I always got along with my significant other's mothers well too. I'm not sure how you would be in a long term relationship and not get along with the parents. The added stress that would cause!
at first I was like, this feels relatableMy first marriage her father hated me
and then I was likeat one point put a hit out on me to have my legs broke by some of his thug security guys,
LMFAO!!!
um, yeah this is a little too relatable right now. like last week when my wife experiemented with squash blossoms. this is BEFORE she fried them up. delicious though, haha. Yesterday I came home and she had like six loaves of chocolate zuchinni bread made.. basically giant brownies.unfortunately I think I am in that being fed too often and the wrong things state again due to family visitors. How do you say no to someone who's love language is service and they want to feed you all the time.
I may have to check that out. LOL The wild thing is there were so many things i started typing that were starting to branch off into other wild tales... Like in between the 2 years I hadn't worked the thug security guys ended up being plugs I would get an o of snow from and give to these guys to take to the club for 50% of the projected profit margin. Being an entrepreneur and all... LOL My life truly is a wild story of how did he get here, and not in jail or shot.Dude WTF you need to write a book!!!![]()
Jim was in the old forum before dapack and I came over here and he wrote this book, its a damn good read. and he's honest about shitting his pants squatting so I was cracking up. he references drug use and whatnot pretty candidly, its pretty refreshing!

Oh yeah, IU had forgotten how strong he was but that 602 bench was the world record for the masters 242 class at the time. I forgot he squatted and deadlifted that much. Now that’s a helluva story! I’d hear the abridged version but those details were epic!
He was a strong sonofabitch, no doubt. Maybe I should take more gear![]()
Oh yeah, IU had forgotten how strong he was but that 602 bench was the world record for the masters 242 class at the time. I forgot he squatted and deadlifted that much.
He trained Anthony Clark for a good while, not sure if any of you all have been following PL long enough to know him, but Anthony was such a good dude, I remember watching him bend and break bars at the golds I was a PT at, having to help spot on occasion if one of the PL group didn't show up. He used to go to the High schools and deadlift cars and stuff talking about don't take drugs while being a walking steroid. LOL His size was almost unfortunate though, he could get winded walking across a room he was so big. You could hear every breathe he took, it was sad but not a surprise when he passed at 38.
Yeah, Anthony was such a good guy, and I saw that reverse grip bench many times.Yeah and that 602 was at a time when the shirt technology was still fairly primitive - most guys were working hard to get 10% or so. You were absolutely a 5-550lb raw bencher to make 600 back in that era, no doubt. There simply was no competition besides singe-ply suits and shirts, everyone used them and they didn’t help so radically. The deadlifts always told the truth too, because you can’t really get anything out of them, maybe 20lbs.
Oh man if you don’t know who Anthony Clark was, you don’t know **** about powerlifting history, no doubt a major icon! Reverse grip bench, no less!!!
LOL right, yeah man, I have so many wild stories. I put myself in a lot of interesting situations, especially being super impulsive, and high risk tolerance, if not enjoyment of risky situations. I was jumping off my roof for fun at 7 or 8 years old.lol this got wild. Leading off with his freakish lifts definitely toned down the wildness of the rest of the story though![]()
Thanks @gphagan1 that really means a lot. (bolded)That was a wild story, and it did read like I was reading an excerpt out of an action novel. Actually sounds like it could be a pretty cool movie. Honestly though man the way your brother was murdered, and at your 21 birthday party no doubt, was horrible. No wonder it pushed you over the edge, but it’s awesome seeing the man, husband, and father you’ve become….that’s the ultimate victory.![]()
Thanks, yeah a pretty wild and eventful life no doubt, but you know I don't regret a lot of it. At least the things I did. I became pretty resilient finding my way.Dang man. Truly don't know what others have been through in life. Glad you came out on the other side, but that is wild man. Lucky too brother, as that could've ended up very differently.
Somewild times man! Pretty sure my parents still have a tub full of readers digests. I don’t know why but when I think of readers digest I can still hear Paul Harvey on the radio, “and now you know, the rest of the story.”Sorry I have been away, when work gets busy it gets busy, and out of respect for the wife and kids I try not to spend much time on the forums at home. There was a period of time when I was repping companies, that I dedicated so much time to it that she began to resent the forums, even though she was still supportive of why I was doing it. So, I changed my behavior, the last thing I want any of them to think is that I am neglecting them.
Yeah, Anthony was such a good guy, and I saw that reverse grip bench many times.

You can probably tell by the verboseness of my posts that I enjoy writing. Hell, talking, for that matter. LOL
I have tossed around the idea of trying to write a book or something someday. I wrote a couple of short stories when I was younger. One of them was published in The Reader's Digest. Remember that old thing? That was pretty cool, I also had some poetry published in some magazine I don't remember the name of now. So I enjoy it, just need to do it every once in a while. See if something I would actually like to pursue.
Thanks, yeah a pretty wild and eventful life no doubt, but you know I don't regret a lot of it. At least the things I did. I became pretty resilient finding my way.
Yeah, for sure could have gone worse. I have had a gun pointed at me multiple times, and had one to my head 3 times in my life, so not even the scariest things I have been through. Well the night my brother got shot was also one of the times I had a gun to my head. On top of that, I have been woken up by SWAT and DEA banging on my door with machine guns and full tactical gear. They didn't come for me, but apparently I had a few warrants for failure to appear for traffic violations. So I went to jail in February in my boxers, no shoes or socks... Found out one of the guys who had been there doing tattoos the night before was like on the top 10 most wanted lists for some wild crap. So someone tipped them he was there and they had like 25 of them. The funny thing is I had taken a lot of acid the night before like 3-4 hits, and I still had a bit of that surreal things are not quite right feeling at 6AM when they damn near took the door off the hinges and started yelling over a bullhorn. So it was even more intense to me.
You’re like me brother….the hard work is what’s fun, mentally satisfying as well as physically. I think it makes sense, because you have found your parameters of your injuries and how you can safely train around them. And besides continuing to build the muscles around any injury area should only help in the long run. So you might as well enjoy yourself. What is funny is I got on here to give an status update and got distracted. The last week and a half I have been pushing things harder anywhere I can. I decided what I love is the hard work, the fight, and I really need that to truly enjoy my training. I am not really worried about the neck and all of the nerve pain any longer as long as I am careful with things that cause problems. Also the issue with my AC joint, and my collarbone and therefor shoulder being unstable is simply not going to go away any time soon. So I can't keep babying it so much. I need to refrain from things that cause pain, but kick ass otherwise.
So the last 2 weeks I have really been testing limits and pushing harder in the gym.
Basically been pushing things as hard as I can on anything I feel I can safely, going to one rep before form failure, then either adding in long range partials, or 2 rest pauses on the last set of exercises depending on the movement or situation. Legs have been more sets per exercise, less exercises kind of thing. Been doing 2 compound movements
Today is a full body Muscle Round day. Then I wait a day or two and start over depending on how my shoulder is feeling. It click, pops, and snags now when I have to protract it under force. It's like the distal end of my collarbone is loosely attached, and just gets pushed around as I move through certain ranges of motion. Surprisingly it is not as painful as one would think, unless it gets really out of place like it did with overhead press last week. However it being this loose is causing more guarding, so my trap, pec, and right side of my neck and scalines get super tight when it gets pushed, but it is not something I can't work around. The way I see it, I might as well just push as hard as I can on what I can and get as much enjoyment out of training as I can.
We are 2 weeks in and I am maintaining well with MIL around making food all the time. I am not making much in the way of progress but not really backsliding, and the calories aren't hurting my training so... I am not going to stress and will clean things up once she heads back home this weekend.
Yeah, I need to be able to push on something hard, otherwise I get board and disenchanted with the whole process. It is just frustrating at that point. You’re like me brother….the hard work is what’s fun, mentally satisfying as well as physically. Yeah, once you get to a certain age, and or level of old injuries it is kind of a rolling situation between this, that, and the other. So you have to do what you can when you can and do it hard enough to make it enjoyable.I have come to the same realization over the years. Gotta work around the stuff I can and decide what level of wear and tear is safe to push through and what to work around. If I just stop my physical and mental health always suffer. More often than not this treats me well and I don’t end up making things worse and the same clinical timeframe for it to recover seems to not change. If I strain something bad and have to eliminate that muscle group all together , I’m going to find a weakness I’ve neglected due to time constraints and make it up, etc
Man I feel you on that, wanting to get stuff done to take advantage of your deductible. It kills me how the insurance companies make you jump through hoops to get something done even though the Doctors say you need it. They dictate too much on what the Doctors are allowed to do and it’s ridiculous, because the Doctors are the experts on your case. And to be honest sometimes I wonder if during the last few months of the year that they look for any reason to delay approval knowing we have to start all over in January building our deductible back up.Yeah, I need to be able to push on something hard, otherwise I get board and disenchanted with the whole process. Today is a non training day. I will either go for my walk, or do some cardio at lunch, then have an appointment for PT/Chiro this evening, and am going to go ahead and ask him to send the orders to the other place that will do the MRI for $450 instead of waiting until insurance agrees. Even though I have been in treatment for months for my neck and shoulder they want another 6 weeks of PT on my shoulder before even considering approving and even then said they would not approve the dye which I know I need because I have an anchor in my arm that creates a dead spot in the image...
I just want to know what the deal is, and what needs done to fix this. Is it a tear that must be repaired, or something we might be able to heal with prolotherapy or Stem cells. Plus I am close to my deductible so if I need something major, I want to get through the requirements in time to do something this year before I go into another years deductible.
Oh, I am skipping waiting. I am going to pay the $450 out of pocket to get the MRI done, and if we find something insurance has to deal with regarding surgery, then we will present that. If not, I will be trying to figure out what things I can do outside of surgery to repair the area. To me the 450 is worth it and I will be using my FSA anyway so it make sense to use it there rather than play the delay and push away game.Man I feel you on that, wanting to get stuff done to take advantage of your deductible. Smart move! And yeah that’s a great price for a MRI!Oh, I am skipping waiting. Agreed! With this one being so cheap part of me wants to have the bottom part of my neck done as well just to know what I am dealing with.Excited for you to get to move forward on this! Sometimes you just have to make a way, even if it sucks - it’s still the best path to get where you want to go.
Agreed, when he told me I was shocked, I truly expected 650-800 for with and without contrast dye.Smart move! And yeah that’s a great price for a MRI!
No doubt, I know my last one for my shoulder, my portion was like $1400 since some of it was deductible, and then the 10% on top of that. So they probably charged a lot more.lol I remember a $2500 MRI when I had insurance, so I yeah I'd say $450 is good. I want to say my wife's are like $5k ea but because of the cancer all things related to that (including lifetime warranty on the tits) is covered for life now.
Yeah, I can see why, you need a bit of impact to move that much meat back into place. I will say it was like night and day difference in how effectively it moved my collar bone. All the strongman chiros at competitions use table drops for almost everything. When you want something done seriously, POW!Like a WWE ring

I think mine was similar, I can't remember the exact details it was probably 12+ years ago. I don't even remember exactly why they did it and the decision at the time was that I had "chronic appendicitus" lol. basically the appendix had inflamed and scarred a couple times, maybe, but final outcome was "do nothing". another worthy medical bill in the books, ha.my portion was like $1400 since some of it was deductible, and then the 10% on top of that. So they probably charged a lot more.
Not really, however, when I decide to take a nap I am normally physically gone already. Also in true ADHD form, I do not pay attention to things I am not really interested in doing. They typically don't even cross my mind. I have to set up reminders to remember to get those type of things done. Often even when I do think of them, I get distracted and forget about them before I end up getting started. So I have back up reminders to ensure I get those things done. That being the case, Honey-do lists and challenging tasks I don't enjoy are typically not running through my mind. Even when they do, the default thought is I can do that in a minute, then the minute never seems to come and it is two hours later and I have wasted time with nonsense.Naps rule!
do you find its harder to actually nap with ADHD? I basically stopped napping when I met my wife (LOL) now days it seems like when I want to sit down to rest like that, I've developed enough of her ADD that my brain can't relax until the body is full trashed cause there's always something else that needs to be done lol.
your candid description sorta cracked me up but I totally understand what you're saying. my lifting buddy with the very severe adhd and I had a talk about it one day and IIRC one of the things he talked about was the misery of routine and doing the exact same things in the exact same order every day and I was like WTF are you talking about LOL I could tell you not only the exact order of my morning from alarm > piss > brush teeth > shower > contacts > red light > deodorant > socks > etc but also the exact break down of the exact order that I do those individual tasks, like the exact order of shower > wet head/armpits > shampoo, but don't rinse > soap everything > rinse > soap hands again cause my next step is to get out and put my contacts in, etc hahahaha its like a battle of autism vs adhd for he and INot really, however, when I decide to take a nap I am normally physically gone already. Sounds to me like you have a bit of the opposite going on. Like having things to do, and not doing them bothers you enough to keep your mind racing. Mine will just reach a point and can shut down
That sounds more like OCD….that’s me. I pay attention to every detail, and it has to be done right or it bugs me. I feel like adhd and above avg intelligence often go hand in hand.or just don't see the value which all lead to not doing the things.
It really is a thing, I didn't even realize it until I read it in an ADHD self help book and was like, yeah, that is so true. I can't tell you how often I avoid, forget, or ignore things I consider to be ceremonial rather than required for a task.I feel like adhd and above avg intelligence often go hand in hand.
Some of the brightest guys I know are very ADD/ADHD and I have seen this exact approach countless times.
"did you do this?"
"no, its dumb, I'm not doing that"
"fair enough"

that is not how balance works, God's plan is careful to ensure laser like focus goes to the idiots and the geniuses maintain enough distraction so that both parties end up with similar resultsI have often thought if I could just harness my intelligence that makes my dysfunctional ass still able to function very well in normal society while spending half of the time at best actually doing a task compared to others. I would be very successful.
Now wait a minute, I wouldn’t say laser focus belongs to the idiots. Some of your best engineers have laser focus, and we’re definitely not idiots. We all have gifts, and there are intelligent people with adhd, ocd, and without…and there are also idiots that have those conditions and that don’t. I think it’s more like adhd people don’t understand how ocd people operate so it doesn’t make sense and vice versa. But we all have gifts and weaknesses, and the truly “smart people” learn how to excel with their gifts and how to work around their weaknesses. Agreed and honestly, I have some of the strongest almost unbreakable focus and attention to things I enjoy. To the point I have to force myself to stop doing things I like to do the things I need to. They call it super focus or hyper focus. I just need to learn how to harness it and make it work for me on things I am not that interested in or enjoy. I am proud of where I am and what I have achieved, but know I have the potential for much more. I just don't place a high value on a lot of the things that would motivate most others to get there. I am not very materialistic, or have a high sense of pride in achievements. However, I can't tell you how many times I have been told my relationship with my wife, and or kids are "Relationship goals" and that is what I value most in the world. Now wait a minute, I wouldn’t say laser focus belongs to the idiots. Yes, this sounds a lot like me. I have always picked things up super quickly get an understanding of a lesson halfway through and become bored as it was being finished explaining. I have had a very natural athleticism and pick new things up quickly. Once good at something enough to satisfy my desire to learn it, I often drop it like I hadn't invested time in getting good at it. I have always kind of though part of my issue is starting at things good enough I was one of the best already and never bothering practicing because i was happy with being better than most with little effort over being the best but having to work extremely hard for it. I was never big on practicing anything. Especially if I had a natural talent for it.lol of course thats true
I like to look at athletes and those super stars in academia and elsewhere and then micro circles around us. my wife often looks at my step daughers, one can play any instrument in about 5 minutes, pick up a new language, aced math without trying, is an absolutely amazing artist, and has zero drive to do any of those thingsthe other one has busted her butt on every endeavor she's ever worked at to accomplish half as much. I told her that's exactly like my little brother and I. he could throw a spiral 100 yards, first time he picked up a bat he hit a homerun, learned how to squat in January, went A2G with 365lbs in March, should have been playing pro soccer but "meh, I didn't feel like it"
and then there's me, who's much more like the step daughter haha.
I always say when you see those superstars like Ohtani, Jordon, Woods, etc those are those crazy times where God was like, I'm going to mix it up this time and give this one both the drive and the talent.
Yeah, I believe God helps us balance each other out. My wife has adhd and I am ocd but we work great together and balance each other out. My oldest son has ADHD, my middle son OCD, and my youngest son has neither, but they are all a success. My oldest has to try hard to focus and finish a task, but he is great under pressure. His major weakness is he has an addictive personality, especially with alcohol, that he has battled since he was young, because that’s how he coped, but when he realized it did him and is family no good, he started working hard to get better and not give into the temptation. My middle son does great on finishing tasks and making sure it’s done right, but he has to be careful that he isn’t overbearing to others. My youngest son has been in the army since he was 18, he is 36 now, but he could of easily been a counselor because he is so good with people, and has a wisdom and understanding beyond his years. Even when he was young he was the peacemaker of the three…his older brothers would butt heads all the time and end up in fights, and he many times would break them up and help them reason through their issues.lol of course thats true

Agreed, there is something to the whole opposites attract, and I think a lot of it is the balance that it offers. Like I mentioned yesterday I think. My wife keeps me pointed in the right direction and prods me supportively when needed. I empathize with her, and help keep her from going over the edge considering she is naturally a little high strung as to where I am naturally not a worrier. We compliment and balance each other out very well.Yeah, I believe God helps us balance each other out. Even when he was young he was the peacemaker of the three…his older brothers would butt heads all the time and end up in fights, and he many times would break them up and help them reason through their issues.
brother I'm so guilty of this myself and I really miss my drumset! My dad always said I'm just like my mom with hobbies and interests. It's like a circle that gets a little bigger every year where I add something new that I have to become hyperfocused on, totally master, then set aside to go back into the circle and start the rotation over again lol. he's probably just waiting to hear when I'm back in a band or on a mens softball team at this pointOnce good at something enough to satisfy my desire to learn it, I often drop it like I hadn't invested time in getting good at it.
this is my household entirelyMy wife has adhd and I am ocd but we work great together and balance each other out.
same, except in reverseand help keep her from going over the edge considering she is naturally a little high strung as to where I am naturally not a worrier
